  1. Your SO will deliver the information requested by GUZ to whoever is at the particular window. There are no questions, no discussion.Within 2 business days, she will be notified of the outcome. If you have been successful, she will recieve her pink slip, and then follow the normal procedure for acquiring the actual visa that you have read about here. Personally, I held my breath until I saw the actual visa on the web cam as some have passed the interview/overcome, only to be told that there was a problem by China Post, and they do not get the visa at that time, just their passports back. The only part I am a bit fuzzy on is if they notify her of the results by phone, or does she return two days later to find out. I think they call. Mike
  2. Hey Ron From my time line: 01/20/06 Letter from NVC w/GUZ Case No. forwarded to GZ (Day 50) 03/15/06 GUZ picks up DHL delivery, signed by STAMP. (Day 104) Stock up on the Cheetos, my friend.
  3. This is in the city I live in. I have heard numerous accounts of this going on. It pisses me off to no end. These things are rampant in my city and other cities as well. A friend of mine recently said he was approached in a restaurant by a foreign person asking if he would be interested in marrying someone from another country. He told them to "go to hell" in no uncertain terms. Yes this is a huge reason for our delays. Thanks for the article chinadave. I read this article earlier this morning on Yahoo. This quote bothers me: "Couples who don't even know each other Duwell said she has witnessed couples who couldn¡¯t converse with each other because of a language barrier, and marriage-license applicants who did not know their future spouse¡¯s last name or place of birth. Clerks reports their suspicions to police" While Manyun has been studying English for several months, her speaking and comprehenion abilities are still rudimentary at best. When we apply for a marriage license, the clerk will have the ability to report us as possible fraudsters (don't wanna go through THAT again) because of some degree of difficulty with speaking to each other in front of the clerk? It's already hard enough getting past VO's with their discressionary powers. Now we have to deal with city clerks getting a head-rush thinking they might be busting up a marriage scam? I'm not liking this.....
  4. Just when I thought I had GUZ figured out¡.. You¡¯ll remember what happened at Manyun¡¯s ¡°interview¡±. She was asked for passports, she was asked for photographs. Without another word, the VO handed her a blue slip and ended the session. No questions, no requests for any other documentation. The blue slip told us what Guz wanted. An errant date caused them to question the validity of the visa application. They wanted proof that Manyun and her ex-husband had been living apart for a ¡°significant¡± period of time. Problem was, she has no clue where he is. Her only contact with him is by cell phone, and when she called him, he laughed, and refused any help what so ever. It was also required that I write a statement to GUZ, and explain why I went to China to meet and stay with a married woman. So before leaving China for home, I wrote out a 7 page, rambling novelette, covering everything from why neither of us understood at the time that she was still ¡°officially¡± married, the situation with her ex-husband, his alcoholism and abuse, what she had at the interview that was never requested, why I made the trips to China and when, and how badly I wanted her here with me to be my wife. I assembled copies of a few sample documents which I hoped would help dispell any belief that I was into a scam for the money. On Monday, October 16th Manyun took all of this to the consulate, and handed it over. I knew that by Wednesday, we should hear something. Wednesday night, I waited at our usual time to chat¡.and waited, and waited. No show. On Thursday morning I checked the computer, where I found an off-line message on Yahoo Messenger. Manyun appologized for not being on-line due to a very familiar power outage. And oh, by the way¡.. ¡°I got the pink paper.¡± WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? No interview, no questions, no evidence. I was in such disbelief that I told NO ONE about this until she showed me on the web camera last night that she had indeed already picked up the visa. She wants two weeks to make the rounds to say good-bye to family and friends. I will make a reservation for November 3rd for the Northwest flight that leaves Guangzhou at 8:30 a.m., and arrives at DTW in Detroit with only a short stop in Tokyo. I can then pick her up from the airport, and she won¡¯t have to struggle through L.A. Tokyo-Narita is a very user-friendly airport. I'll take the following week off from work to help her and Lingyi acclimate. To all who have offered their comments, suggestion, assistance and, in general, their support during this idiotic process, I thank you. I don¡¯t want to single anyone out for fear of fogetting a name, but if it weren¡¯t for a chance meeting with the ¡°Wheelman¡± Paul in a Nanning restaurant back in August of 2005, I might never have known about CFL. Bless you all. I¡¯m already checking out the AOS-EAD-SSA headaches. Gonna be time for a cold one soon. Michael
  5. Good for you, Ron. You are getting back on track.
  6. This will be up soon. I am assuming that you have not yet heard anything? Another GUZ-induced tragedy.
  7. 8 times??? How could they say no? Congratulations, and the best of luck with the rest of the process.
  8. Yes - 78 it is. I have the thermostat programmed for 78 when she's home alone, 75 when I'm home. Our "thermostat wars" consist of her setting the fan to "Auto", or me setting it to "On". I sweat at 78. You wife just ain't cheap enough. I come home to a cold house and she's got her coat on and a hot water bottle stuck inside. I kick the furnace on and it takes a couple hours to warm up to 72. My central AC broke 3 years ago and my central heat last year and I've yet to fix either. I've endured Houston's humid heat and mild winters with only a window unit in my bedroom and an antique space heater. I also love having my windows open. I love all of the money I've saved. My summer electric bill might hit $45 at times, where it used to top $300 and my winter gas bill was almost the same. I drive a 19 year old BMW, no AC. No car payments except some mechanic bills sometimes. I also save the plastic and paper bags for lots of things. I pick up old lumber and building materials tossed on the curb and store or reuse them. My house is furnished (except the bed) with mostly antiques that I either found in the street and rehabbed or were given to me, like my Eastlake sofa and chairs. I think cleanliness, order and harmony are great, although I've relaxed that living in my old house/construction zone. I got rid of all of my old clothes and now have 5 shirts, 3 t-shirts, 2 pairs of shoes and a jacket and sweatshirt. Less is more. This is all feeling right to me. I'm thinking I was Chinese in my last life. Ummm...no pants?
  9. Thanks, David: I hope you're talking a year for the whole process and not just for a name check. I appreciate your response. This is enough to get a man down. Yes, Juette, let us hope that things will move at a faster pace. After all, we are trying to do this "legally"! I'm pretty sure that's what David meant, Ron. We are at 10 1/2 months and didn't have IMBRA to get in the way.
  10. I believe that it has been stated here on more than one occasion that a blue slip was issued, requesting information that the beneficiary had with them at the interview.
  11. Dear CFL Members, The results of visa interviews are not pre-determined. Due to the large volume of visa interviews every day, consular officers unfortunately do not generally have time to review individual cases before the interview. Immigrant Visa Unit, U.S. Consulate, Guangzhou, China I strongly disagree. Without one question, and looking at NO evidence, She was immediately handed the blue slip. In effect, there was no interview.
  12. Ron, my friend. At this point in the process, they are checking you out. I once printed out a list that I found on line of the agencies that are involved in the process. If any ONE of them hits a snag, then the catch-all "Admin Review" kicks in. I think the list covered more than one page. Of course, your being from So. Cal. doesn't help any..... Michael
  13. I threw this out there because of the absolutely assinine quotes, and to warn those in the proces of the potential danger if they do not have their house in order. We are the prime example of the results of this policy. The immigration service turns a blind eye to millions of illegals, yet scrutinizes those trying to navigate the process honestly and legally.
  14. I'm sure that the VO Crusaders are already pouncing on this one. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article.../610150563/1009
  15. Well said, Don Manyun turned in the overcome docs this morning (my Sunday night). Hope to have the results shortly. We'll move on from there. Mike, I am really pulling for you. May you be with your SO soon. Thank you for the good thoughts. I really appreciate that. I have thought many times about your situation. It's a good reality check, understanding that things could be worse than they are. Mike
