Question Dave it was $1050 for all three right??? No,I wrote the check for $1010. Am I missing something? Are you testing me? That's what I thought the amount is, not $1050. I've got the packet ready to seal and take to the post office tomorrow. -

We both were previously married and divorced. She has two sons, I have four daughters. She divorced on April 18, 2000 and I divorced on October 4, 2004. It is doubtful that the dates of our divorces had any bearing on the decision. I think the issue was that we married on my second trip, hence the timing question. Perhaps he thought the marriage was not bonafide since we married so soon after my first visit to her. What he cannot know is what true soul mates we are, and that we saw no reason to delay our marriage knowing this. There was no documentation of what our hearts and minds knew, so he asked me to hand write a statement of our first meeting. My response was 5 pages, telling about all my trips and the exact timing of our meetings and our marriage and all the subsequent trips. I could have written a book, but chose not to. No, the divorces don't seem to be the problem. Thanks for clarifying. I guess you're right, this VO just wanted to give you another hoop to jump through. Good luck with the overcome.

Don't mean to be too obvious, but you did make a complete copy of that "kitchen sink: right?

CONGRATULATIONS to all three of you!! cheering:

David, Sorry to hear about the blue slip. I think we may need a bit more information if we want to figure out what the reason was. If you care to, could you please elaborate on some of your and your wife's backgrounds. Do either of you have previous marriages for instance? Kids? Sometimes previous marriages/divorces are reasons for the "timing" of a relationship to be questioned. Could this be possible in your case? If it's none of our business, you can just say so.

Mailing AOS/EAD/AP packet

Thanks to all. Priority Mail seems the way to go. I like the idea of putting it into a manila envelope as well. -
Thanks Mike and Randy.

In checking my lists for AOS/EAD/AP one last time, I re-read the instructions one more time to be sure and came across this under the initial evidence requirements for the I-131: "If you are an applicant for adjustment of status,a copy of the USCIS or former INS receipt as evidence that you filed the adjustment application." I assumed on first reading that this is the I-797C NOA2. But as I think about it, that doesn't seem like evidence of filing the adjustment application. If not this, what other receipt would I be using since I haven't filed the I-485 yet? Sorry if the answer is obvious but the wording seems a little ambiguous.

Just got the card in 4 business days from the application. No other letter was received. (Illinois too). We obviously went to the wrong office.

How did you mail yours? Certified mail? Registered mail?

Sorry to hear this. As others have said, he'll get here, just a little later than you hoped. Good luck.

Interview date! December 17

Congrats Daniel and Iris! -
When we tried that they wouldn't tell us the number ... but who knows what will happen when you ask! Aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhh!!! They told us we could come back in 2 days to find out the number, but we didn't. Had you received the receipt letter at that point? Or was it when you applied? Yes - when we applied. They said it only took a day or 2 to generate the number, but that the card would take 2 weeks. So it sounds like they generate the number quickly but may or may not tell us what it is, based on your and Jim's conflicting experiences. I guess it comes down to being at the mercy of the particular local office.

So Christine just called to tell me that a letter from the SSA just came in the mail today. It was a recieipt letter saying that our application had been received and we should be getting the card within two weeks. I figured she'd be happy. But no, she could only say "Why they no send me the card?" Sigh... It sounds like more or less aduplicate of the receipt letter we got on the day we applied. Why would they send us this letter? Did anyone else get this letter? Seems like I remember others saying they just got the card, not a receipt letter. I'm guessing that if we go to the SSA office they can at least tell us what the number is?
-
Did you go to the SSA and ask about it? yeah after like 45 days we went back. and they said that B1 licenses could not get social security numbers... i was like what? look again this is not a B license! she showed me where the hand written license kind of looked like a B (buiness) i blew a gasket and asked to speak with someone with more knowledge about K1 i quickly pointed out her actual K1 visa which had expired about 2 weeks prior. i think i read somewhere that you should wait when she gets here to actually file for social, not file immeadiatly...so we waited for 45 days. it was a mess! Yikes! That's a new one. B1? It'd be funny if it wasn't so stupid and such an inconvenience. We waited two weeks after she got here before filing. Maybe that was too soon. Who knows with these people.

Yeah, I'll explain what we've done so far. We'll see what their reaction is. At least going to a different office will hopefully put Christine's mind at ease. Thanks Jim

Did you go to the SSA and ask about it?

Thanks Jim. So do you think we can go to another office and say we haven't received the initial card and would like another one but with a different name? Or are we stuck with the original office and the original name? I think that changing to a married name is one of the "free" duplicates you can order. Even if we haven't technically gotten the first one yet? That's a duplicate. But if they don't have a number on file, that would mean that they never sent out the original. Either way, it should count as just one. Thanks Randy.
