My wife and I are thinking of starting a business (private school) back in china in the coming year to 18 months. She is eligible for US Citizenship, but we pondering whether or not to do it. questions are: 1. are there any easy ways for her to get a Chinese visa as an "overseas chinese"? 2. Differing taxes while within China? Anyone gone along a similar path?

Greetings everyone. Life is good here. My wife and I had our first child 8 months ago. Her mom got here 1year multiple entry visa and is staying with us for 6 months to help with little Lydia. We are also thinking of having her do a quick turnaround after she returns to China; coming back to the US on the same visa. Question is: will staying in the US for almost 12 months affect her chances to get a visitor visa the second time around in a year or two. Mother-in-law is 57. Divorced, two properties in China. large family in China. Retired and on a pension. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Scott

ON the Guangzhou consulate site there is a link to the Ds157, on the form it specifically says expires 9/8/2008 can we still use it? http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/vi...ation_form.html

He did this for me as well. I cannot say enough about how much easier this doctor made the process. The woman who answered the phone was very knowledgeable, seems not all of the vaccinations are absolutely necessary.

Anyone know where a list of Civil Surgeons in China may be found? My laopao needs to get her I-693 supplimental form filled out in China. Thanks

If you have her yellow book and a copy of her passport and visa, you might be able to get a civil surgeon to complete the immunization form without her. Her yellow book was destroyed in a flood...if it is not one thing it is another....

We got an RFE for immunization that states they need it by August 23rd. My wife will be in China until August 27th. can I just send a letter to take care of this or should I have her truck to Guangzhou to get the paperwork done before the deadline?

Lao Pao just got her travel documents. We made a few mistakes along the way so I thought I would point them out here to make others trip less painful. Although it says that you can file a I131 petition with an info pass you must have a valid "emergency." If you do not they will not let you in the door. Literally the woman at the desk told us we couldn't go in, and I asked if there was anyway to speak to a supervisor since this was important to us and they had us wait near the desk on some chairs outside the security office where I swear I heard extended snoring. They would not take the petition. Also you must have proof of some sort of the emergency. So we sent it to the lock box 8 weeks before the date we wanted to travel. Waited until we got the confirmation that they had received the paper work. We knew it wouldn't get processed on time so we had my employer write a letter about how I needed to be out of the country for work for 4 weeks and my wife without a driver's license would be at great risk. Took this paper to a new infopass. This was about 3+ weeks before departure. They would not adjudicate on it there--they just sent it by fax to the California processing center. This is where it gets interesting in a sad way. The officer said that they would decide. I said, what if I don't hear from them when shoudl I come back with an infopass. He said a day four days before my departure. I said can't we come earlier. So he says, "okay come back 10 days before if you don't have it yet." That would have been tomorrow, but luckily it was in our post box today. Life is good.

Actually I think Congress sees the Amnesty plan as a form of punishment.... think about it. All those people who haven't had to deal with USCI(non)S suddenly having to deal with them.

we are on a K1 visa in the middle of AOS. Lao pao wants to fly back in early June. What is the best way to go about this to make sure she gets advanced parole in time.

unfortunately this seems time for a good lawyer. Remember that if she gets permanent status she can come back and force you, via the I-864, to support her to the poverty level if she is legally in the states. This is over $1,000 a month so a lawyer that helps you stay out of trouble and helps make her legal options to stay in the states a remoter possibility would be worth an up front investment in a strong lawyer.

just as an idea, did you check your passport? might have been put in there accidentally....doubt it, but you never know.

RLS, I think once before and once during the interview should be fine. Remember to get all of the documentation together as neat and organized as possible. Remember that the Visa Officer is looking to save time and I really feel if your SO has everything neatly laid out it will show and will give her confidence. Also if you can, try to go to the American hour on Friday afternoon (I think) your name will be taken down and this can only help. Scott

yes, it is only a few hundred....but depending where you are it will take some time (a few weeks to a month or so) unless you grease the palms. My LaoPao does not like bribes so she found herself having to go back a few times because of misplaced paperwork....

This might be the case in other states as well but your SO's passport, bank account, and SS# are not enough to get a driver's permit. One needs to get the i-551 or the like to apply for the permit. The point is if you are in Virginia and hope to let your SO drive as soon as possible get cracking on the paper work right away.

I agree with the sentiment of getting a good lawyer. One avenue that you might check out is if you can get a copy of the ex's new marriage certificate--might be public domain--or more likely receivable with a small gift to someone at records. If you can show that he was a bigamist it might go a long way to help you all clear this hurdle. good luck!!

I also imagine it is for them to check out how well she knows your family--assume that they will ask her about anyone you put down. Also might be used to make sure that you and your SO are not too closely related to marry.
