  1. EXCEPT for their VO - a real a**, who swore up and down that it was not a real relationship (after the real interview), gave them a white (I think) slip, and told them "No way in h***". He then apparently got cold feet and turned it over to someone else, who conducted the telephone interview and gave them the visa. Member name was audelaire. 2. After she gets her green card, your wife would file an I-130 for a visa for her daughter. The wait for an over-21 child is currently around 10 years, but would be shortened to around 5 years if your wife subsequently became a US citizen. See visa bulletin. If the I-130 can be filed before she becomes 21, the wait is much shorter - closer to 1 year. So get your wife here, get her green card, and file the I-130 for her daughter as soon as you can. If the green card doesn't come before the daughter's 21st birthday, you are stuck with the 5 to 10 year wait. As an American citizen, you could get your step-child here sooner, but only if they are under 18 when you get married.
  3. Dangerous - "Yes" and "Unknown" answer the question very directly and fit in the blanks. Hmmm ... always a tough call but I would be tempted to add a sheet referring to the "Unknown" and simply state: "Divorce was final in December 1979. I have not personally had any contact with my ex-wife since XXXXX and have no knowledge of her current status or whereabouts." Do you have the ex's SSAN? That might be something to have in your hip pocket as the USG would likely have records of her by the SSAN. My thinking was given the number of blue slips handed out of late asking for more info on exes, letting them know right off the bat how little contact you've actually had with her for such a long time may head off problems later. But I can also see the argument for not adding any more than asked for. Jim's right. Tough call. My thinking is that a long-gone relationship does not affect the current one, unless specifically brought up by the VO. You want to paint a pretty picture of the current relationship. Jim's statement is a simple statement of facts regarding the blanks to be filled in, and would be unlikely to raise any additional questions.

  5. i am really not sure what you mean, Mike this sounds like an episode of seinfeld. when all george wants is to date that black chick that doesnt speak english and kramer sells the old mans record collection. Seinfeld's Dating 101? Is that what this is about?? You tell us, Bill. How would you feel about your wife if she didn't speak English?
  6. At our AOS interview, the IO fumbled around for a while for a new medical exam, until I pointed out the old one was less than a year old. He seemed to expect a new one, but was happy with the old.
  7. FIND that A-number! They have been known to open a second file when you don't. It's on your I-797 NOA1 and on the I-94 in the passport.
  8. A K-2 would work, although the timing would be tight for the summer (he'd have to get the visa before the 1 yr anniversary of your wife's, and then use it within 6 months of that). The USCIS is very fond of reminding us that it is only a "temporary" visa. A CR-2 would take longer, but then give you much more flexibility. But I'm not sure about using an immigrant visa when the intent is to NOT immigrate. A visitor's visa should also work - Doug (SheLikesMe?) did this for his daughter before her CR-2 visa was issued.
  9. There is usually a way to make a square selection, then crop to the selection. With Photoshop, hold the shift key while you make your selection. With Paint Shop Pro, there is a square selection tool. But will that distort the pixels if the image needs to be border to border and the placement of the face kept within the guidline parameters? No - you select the exact pixels you need to make the face the correct proportion within the square. Then resize, keeping the same proportion of height to width, to 2"x2". You must have enough pixels to begin with so the picture won't appear pixelated, but the proportions can be preserved at each step.

  11. Photoshop allows you to change the print size of a photo without changing the number of pixels (i.e., change the resolution). Paint Shop Pro allows you to specify an exact print size when printing. I believe most photo print programs will do this as well.
  12. I figured this would be the case. Do we both need to be there or is just his mother okay? Of course, it's up to the VO, but I would think just his mother would do.
  13. my wife's grandmother had an outdoor potty with a big hole which pigs wandered freely underneath the outhouse... she says they all would come running and snorting under you as you did your business... that's why my wife has nerves of steel... but I wonder what the pork tasted like In india, the pigs are the sewage treatment system. Some hotels will give you a stick to take with you when you gotta' go to keep 'em at a distance.
  14. When we were there for our son's interview, another kid was given a blue slip because his parents weren't there. Another CFL member's child was given a blue slip because his parents had been denied entry by the guards. Fortunately, he was able to explain what had happened and get the blue slip turned to red the same day.
  15. Darn! No one else took it, so I guess I get the question (just kidding ) 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. I had simple answers for those questions, and filled them in. Others will tell you not to, but I think the stack of documentation looks a little better if you do. It's easier for the VO to pass the beneficiary when the applicant is rich 4. I believe so. 5. This is a general purpose form, used for other visa types also. There is no "of course" box, so just answer that "I do" intend to provide all support blah-blah-blah.
  16. The I-485 for your son is a completely separate document from your wife's, with its own I-864, which will contain the same information, assuming nothing's changed. Yes - K-2's are not work authorized, and must have an EAD. You might consider whether he will really need one - there shouldn't be any need for it, although some banks, insurance companies, etc. ask for it. It usually just amounts to that their clerks don't know what to do with the blank if there is no SSN.
  17. If you have filed the I-129F, they will forward it to Guangzhou, and keep the I-130 stateside, unless you file the I-824 to request that the I-130 also be forwarded. If you haven't filed the I-129F, the I-130 will automatically be forwarded. The choice is yours. If you want to cover all bases without having to pay the fee for the I-824, file the I-129F AFTER you learn that the I-130 has been forwarded to Guangzhou.
  18. Lisa can file for her daughter as the child of an LPR. Mike can file for his child as the child of an American citizen. This means that she is considered the child of an American citizen for immigration purposes as long as they married before she became 18. This is the same relationship that allows an American citizen to file a CR-2 for the child of his foreign spouse (I-130) when he files a CR-1 for his wife.
  19. I would tell you to check out the CR1/2 timelines. I'm not sure if filing for the child separately would be quicker. Lee's knowledge would be helpful here. Try PM'ing him in case he misses this thread.
  20. Yes you are correct. I think from here that you file an I-130 for your child (for immigration purposes, she is your child, since she was under 18 when you married). This would be similar to (or maybe actually IS) a CR-2 visa.
  21. Pen and paper Some personally identifying information. Some members have argued that GUZ should take ANY 3rd party evidence seriously. I think it's usually like allowing high school gossip to upset someone's life. The consulate's take on this issue
