Another interview date!

Dave Greats News and Good Luck !! -
I think it best to cover all the bases - make sure your insurance covers someone with a foreign license. Insurance companies can get a bit cranky about not having immediate family members listed as drivers on a policy. When Ying got her Illinois permit, I contacted Satae Farm. They said she was covered under my policy as long as she had the permit and did not have to be listed as a driver on the policy until she had the actual license. It could get interesting when you try to add a driver to your policy with a Chinese license.

Visa getting easier or harder?
ed and ying replied to Luo_Bin_&_Jialu's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
In line with the OP question I think there are delays and more possible roadblocks than in the past. When we started the process the interviews were at the Island and you picked up the the visa next day. I think there was a quicker process to submit overcome info. At the time of our interview the location moved to the office building and you waited a few days to pick up the real result at the post office. I think shortly after that the process changed to scheduling a overcome appointment via phone IMHO it has changed for the worse, especially if you are not a easy pass -
Go to interview with SO or not???
ed and ying replied to rondrum42's topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
I went for the following reasons: 1. Prep for the interview and departure from Beijing. Ying had no family in Beijing so getting all her things ready to go, including her cat, closing the apartment, etc was all on us. The timeframe was tight, as I rememebr I arrived in Beijing a few days before we had to leave for GUZ, we left for the USA 2 days after returning from GUZ. It was a very busy time - not sure if either of us alone could have done it. Not helped by landlord not wanting to return the "deposit" and similar situations. 2. It was important to me, I wanted to help anyway I could 3. If there were problems, I would be there -
For what it is worth, we have been consistent throught the whole process. On I-129F, etc. - Ying's middle name was always (NONE). I figured the () would clue anyone that it was not a name. After we married Ying uses the same first name, Yingxia. with my family name. Her middle name is still (NONE). It does not show up on her DL,GC, etc

Reasonable amount of e-mails
ed and ying replied to michaelt's topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
I agree - our I-129F petition included a few examples of email, snailmail, phonelogs, photos that spanned the 2 years prior to filing. We included all my boarding stubs. These were all scanned and imported to a Word document that was printed for the petition. For the interview - Ying had the originals of everything that was in the I-129F petition, plus a sampling of new stuff since the I-129F filing. The kitchen sink - all the emails, phonelogs, snailmails, etc was in the hotel room - available if needed. I choose the route to provide more than the minimum required with the I-129F, it was not a massive amount - but we had almost 2 years of realtionship to document. The pile was not over 1 inch. Did it make a difference - who knows - Ying did get the 2yr GC without a interview -
New Passport Travel Guidelines
ed and ying replied to SinoTexas's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
A PRC citizen who is Permanent Resident of USA (has GC) can visit and transit Canada with their passport and GC, no visa required. -
Ying passed the road test on first try, got her drivers license on April 6. I will say she is still learning - reluctant to go too far if I am not in the car. She takes the beater if alone, the new cars only if I am with her. The learning experience was interesting. I was able to work with her in a parking lot to practice the basics of start/stop/turn. She was fearful as we moved to the neighboorhod streets. That was the point where we got pro teacher. The teacher was able to push her as I would not be able. I was not allowed in the car. Ying had 3 one hour lessons. I practiced with her, she drove everywhere except taking me to work. There were a few tense moments, and some slight ones still occur. Last obstacle is to get her to abandon the beater. Insurance - It cost nothing to add her as driver. We have State Farm on house and 4 cars.

I have usewd these folks and visarite several times. It is easy and hassle free to use the services

Me too ! Ying wanted to pick her ring. That is great, cause I sure did not want to try an pick it. I said not a word about fakes, buying in USA might be safer or a better value. The only thing of importance was that she got the ring she wanted and she was happy.

Great News !

This is really a question of personal choice. no right or wrong answer - except be consistent as how you use family name once you make a choice. A search will reveal many discussions, debates, etc on this issue

How Many Checks Do You Send???
ed and ying replied to chef4u's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
If it helps - Back in the dark ages ( same time last year) we sent 3 checks to DHS for aos, ead, and ap in the amounts of $ 395, 180, 170. No promise that the amounts match the cause or the need - but we were aos approved without interview. -

about chinese wife's job searching
ed and ying replied to tweety121's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
Good advice !! Many engineers working at my company, all disciplines. Many are working through a agency. The new way is that a portion of staff will be sourced through agencies. It can be steady work. We do select agency workers for offers of employment with our company. -
Great News !!!! - Best Wishes for the future

Congrats !!!! and Best Wishes

Don't worry about it, it is all in the hands of the folks generating the report - hopefully it will say no record. PS - It is sort pointless to apply our concepts of records / process to the China system. Go with the flow and just get the required documents. This is run of the mill stuff for the notarial offices

Weekly Call to DOS... And?
ed and ying replied to Stephen's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Congratulations!! Have fun, how many people can say they spent Christmas in China?! Congrats !!!! I spent Dec 2004 in Beijing with Ying, strange to see the interest in Santa, etc. Santa and Rudolph posters in our neighborhood eatery and other businesses Never forget the department store Santa that was offering a special gift package to couples who would kiss in front of the crowd. We went to some of the hotel and Chaoyang bars for Christmas and New Year eve. It was a very nice holiday season - a time a will never forget. Ying was here for X-mas 2005. PS - Shanghai, Chongqing cold ?? You should try Changchun in Jan/Feb, have many photos of everyone wearing down coats in the meeting rooms -
