  1. Our AOS package was recieve in Chicago. How long until I get some kind of notice that they are beginning the review of the information ? And how do I track the case status as many others here are doing ??? thanks.
  2. CONGRATS !!!! You will have to fill us in on the details
  3. I think that getting her mother here would be the best opinin that would go inline with the Chinese custom, and the baby certainly would not be far at all. I have thought about a "nanny" ($$$$), or American style child care too. One option that Davids wife suggested to Joanna was to apply a visa for a nanny from China. Anyway, thanks for the thoughs.
  4. We took office from HK to LA in September. She did not need a HK visa. The USA visa + Airticket is sufficient. We crossed the border on a Bus as well. There was absolutely no problem at all. She handed my passport to the customs offical at each port of entry / exit -- this may have "greased the wheel". As for the clear binder to hold our stuff -- tray Staples, I bought an accordain style one there for a few $. I don't know about #1.
  5. Joanne - So, your baby has a chinese citizenship at this time ? You plan to give her the choice to do as she wishes at 18 -- so your baby does not need a permit at this time correct ? I guess we could do something similar. We could register for chinese citizenship at first, and then apply for US citizenship at a later time. The other way is to apply for a visa for her mom to come here to help her. My wife, Joanna, wants to go out to get more education at our local college here. So, she needs some help with the child caring. Thanks for your input. I don't really know how to hanlde it at this time.
  6. We are going to have a baby in a year , but here we have some issues about taking care of the baby , as Chinese tradition , the grandparents take care of the baby if the young couple go to work daily , so . We are considering to get the visa for the grandmother come from China , but since she already has grandson to look after . That we need to find another way --give birth to baby in China , then leave the baby there to be taken by grandmother , but we are not sure the law in USA and in China will permit us to do that . hope we can get some advice here , Joanna
  7. Thanks David !!!! and Thanks Trigg.
  8. From my research, K1 visa holders only need to fill out I-485 G-325 I-864 I-693 -- Vaccination Suppliment So why does USCIS include I-130 in the download for I-485 ?? by the why does anyone know where I could find some fillable forms, so I don't have to use my crappy hand writting ?
  9. Okay, so it means the customs stamp basically.....
  10. This is a yes or no answer. The question is what does 'Inspected' mean in this case. I assume pulled back into some dark room with one light hanging or something.
  11. Don - Congrats Your honey will be home for the holidays Also, have a happy birthday B)
  12. We just got married. We went to the Tucson, AZ court house for the ceremony. The Judge had her sign the record of marriage with her name with my last name, since she would like to take my last name. We got the certificate of marriage right away from the court too... so now I need to fill out lots and lots paper work for INS.
  13. Where is everyone else staying ??? I think Phil said he was scoping out the Hotel 6, and QQ was looking at a hotel close to the beach, and Comsic mentioned econolodge as well.
  14. I just reserved a room at the econolodge -- good call cosmc ! As for the general meeting area : Lake Launga Park looks good, Pismo beach also looks good too. How about this idea -- we could meet for dinner at a local Chinese restraunt. Say for example: Golden Gong Chinese Restaurant- Rated # 3 in San Luis Obispo 290 Madonna Road, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405-5409 Category: Asian/Pacific Phone: 805-541-0226
  15. QQ- Actually, I think most of the hotels that I listed are close to the beach there. See you there for sure. All - We should all decide on a meeting place, since it looks like we will have people at several different hotels. What say you all ?
  16. Q&Q -- You can reserve 2 adults for the room. I was just looking for the info, so I did not bother to change the default # of adults (which is one).
  17. Picnic at the Beach ? -- Although it will be November, so it will not be warm. I going to get hooked up with the Econolodge myself. I think that is a decent price to pay for what they offer. The other two are too expensive for me. We should definately decide on a central meeting point of some type.

  23. For your reading enjoyment: To apply for a Social Security number: Call or visit one of our local offices; Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and Provide original documents showing your age, identity and lawful noncitizen status (including Department of Homeland Security (DHS) permission to work in the U.S.). You may apply for a Social Security number if you do not have permission to work: If a federal law requires that you show your Social Security number to get a particular benefit or service; or If a state or local law requires you to show your Social Security number to get general assistance benefits. To get a number to meet a state or local government requirement, you must provide a letter, on letterhead stationery (no form letters or photocopies), from the government agency requiring you to get a number. The letter must: Specifically identify you as the applicant; Cite the law requiring you to have a Social Security number; Indicate that you meet all the agency’s requirements, except having the number; and Contain an agency contact name and telephone number. If you are assigned a number for nonwork purposes, you cannot use it to work. If you use it to work, we may inform DHS. You will receive your number and card as soon as we verify your immigration status with DHS. Your employer can use your immigration documents as proof of your authorization to work in the U.S. What can you do if you need a number for tax purposes? If you need a number for tax purposes and you are not authorized to work in the U.S., you can apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Visit IRS in person or call the IRS toll-free number, 1-800-TAXFORM (1-800-829-3676), and request Form W-7, Application For An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Do you need a number for other government services? Lawfully admitted noncitizens can get many benefits and services without having a Social Security number. You do not need a number to purchase savings bonds, conduct business with a bank, register for school or apply for educational tests, obtain private health insurance, apply for school lunch programs or apply for subsidized housing. Contacting Social Security For more information, visit our website at www.socialsecurity.gov or call toll-free 1-800-772-1213 (for the deaf or hard of hearing, call our TTY number, 1-800-325-0778). We can answer specific questions and provide information by automated phone service 24 hours a day. We treat all calls confidentially. We also want to make sure you receive accurate and courteous service. That is why we have a second Social Security representative monitor some telephone calls.
  24. We bought some mooncakes here at a local asian supermarker (Ranch99). I actually liked them -- and I was prepared for something really bitter or Sour. Not as bad as everyone makes them out to be.
