The amount is the maximum that informants can be given for providing Guangdong provincial police with useful information on crimes such as drug trafficking, gang activities, and illegal land acquisition. According to local media, the reward aims to encourage more citizens to report such crimes. Government departments in China sometimes pay rewards and compensation in eye-catching bricks of cash.
