Here's a pic of me and John after swearing in.

Is the navy still riding around in wooden boats like on that flag? And what's with the big picture of a cigar on the sails?

Honestly though, I think that's a good picture

(And after looking at that flag more. What the hell is going on in it? Is that an eagle or a boat? Is that an anchor or part of the boat's sails? I am totally confused.)

Being somewhat of a kid myself, I usually assume that things I send back home will be shared with all living there. This includes phone calls. I typically call my dad to chat, and only call my mom for specific questions--or when Dad doesn't answer. I usually expect things to be relayed between them (and my brothers) regardless of who I call.

But of course, my family is probably different from yours. If John hasn't specifically asked you to keep things private, I'd be sure to ask in the next letter you send to him. Just say you're a proud dad and want to know what you're allowed to share. I don't know the kid, but I don't think he'd be upset by that... After all, I think everybody knows that proud dads like to brag.

By the way, congratulations on being a good dad! As much as he inspires you, I'm sure you're inspiring him just the same. Probably even more-so.

Well, don't know Jack about the sissy-boy Navy :D

MY Boy's a Marine! :(

I understand your point and yeah, a lot of the letter is shareable BUT

John and I have established a trust-bond. So I will put up with the

mop slapping for him, and in the long run her. For this issue of privacy

and independence is what drove John off in the first place.

Pre-Marine chapter of our lives.

Kinda late to the party ol; buddy. I worked till 9:30 Tuesday night on a 5,500 sq.ft. home here in rural Pennsyltucky and then took off with one of the guys I'm working for Wednesday morning to work on another home out in rural Ohio (Fredericktown)...Just got to the batcave and clicked on the cornputer.

I'm thrilled for you, and the new Marine John. I loved the photos. I too feel your pride in John, and I am really proud of him my owndamnself. May he have an exciting career.

Ya know, there's man to man tawk, and there's son to mother tawk...best to keep it that way.

I'm really happy for you and your family. I can only hope to one day have my 14 year old son here in America with me one day.

Oat,

I'd love to tell you that your son will someday be here, and he

most likely will. But, I went through it, Charles is going through it

and others. I intimately know the nightmare.

I remember when folks would tell me, "Hey, don't worry, you'll get it"

I appreciated it, that's no lie, but deep down I was pissed at the easy visas,

especially the ones that disintegrated in about 2.9 seconds.

Ying was facing death for Christ's sake!

Anyway, it did end, and your sojourn will too.

It's a goddamn schizophrenic, Kafka dream. I admire your tenacity, though.

And, whatever the future holds for you, embrace it.

And I will be there for you.

As to John, you got it - man to man. And it's gonna stay that way.

Always has, except during those awkward moments when John didn't

quite understand the rules and let something slip! :o  :P :Dah:

Well fellas, John got to do the dreaded Gas Chamber ! :o

http://i29.tinypic.com/14a8uiw.jpg

What he wrote about made me laugh me ass off.

He did say that the screw-ups in his platoon lived up to their

reputations and the whole platoon had to go in

for five more minutes! ( ) Sorry, he'll laugh later. :P

He took some test or other and he got a 98! :D

Again, his letters show that he is really into it. He got a new cami's and

he said he looked in the mirror and saw a Marine.

I'm busting here gentlemen.

Thanks for reading

John said it was hell on earth! He said that there is one word for it :

(excuse the language - for dramatic effect only!) FUCK! :o

This man-child is going to be a Marine!

He said he would never ever go in there again! No matter what!

Then he added:

"Unless my DI told me to".

Please understand that I am not a war-hawk or anything

and my pride only comes from my boy becoming a man.

That man just happens to be a Marine.

OORAH!

(even though I was in the Army, HOOAH ;), I'm proud of him too, so carry on... bust away!)

Over time, "AARUGHA" EVENTUALLY CHANGED TO "OORAH". The official Marine Corps Training Reference Manual on the history of Marine Recon is titled "AARUGHA", giving credence on the orgination of the 'POSITIVE RESPONSE' accenting anything that is meant to be good and uniquely Marine Corps.

Thanks!

No letter today and I worked out the privacy issue with Mom.

John is definitely Marine material.

If that makes him a good man, that's all I ask.

There's a part of John that I never want to change.

That is he is very compassionate towards those less fortunate.

I'm sure he can kick ass and rub a little kids hair at the same time. :boxer:
