Congratulations, Steve and family. I can feel your pride oozing off my screen. :D

Hope he gets into supply or communications or the wars are over so that he'll never have to see combat.

Ah Dennis!

The man who makes me wish I was a lesbian. :D

John will be in supply. Don't know where he will be stationed yet.

He could actually stay in the states. Don't know if he will be satisfied

with that. He is really into it.

He wrote me that he can not believe how strong he is getting, how

much he can endure. He passed the first two stages of swim week

with flying colors but not sure about week three, he said nobody passed.

He said that they looked around the base for everything and anything

that they could weigh him down with! :o

Hope all is well with you guys and that maybe John gets stationed

out there and I can come mooch off of him and see y'all again.

Wasn't really myself when I met you, but I'm much better now <_< ;)

Sorry about the poor job of quoting you.

That's OK, Steve. I actually realize that you were suffering from PTCS (Post Traumatic China Syndrome)

My good brother Steve, our home will be waiting for you and Ying to come and stay. :)

On the Home-front:

Didn't get a letter from John today, but some other good news.

Ying passed her driving test!

First time! :P (Took John 3. :P )

Man, I'll tell ya, that whole thing came close to divorce.

Never, ever, teach your wife to drive. :D

Now I'm an excellent teacher even though I tend to be firm

and take a tough love approach, but by God and Sonny boy Jesus

my students learn. Maybe that's why I relate to John being in the

Marines. Hmmm.

Anyway she is now a "Fly Bird" (FREE). Me too!!!!!!!!! :P

More to come.

Start reinforcing those buttons on your shirts because you'll be so filled with pride that you'll pop'em off!

Good work Dad.

Maybe popping my chest buttons will match popping my

belly buttons! :D

Please don't go below the belly buttons.

We really don't need to know.

Only wish there was something there to Pop! :(

Got a letter from John today.

He has passed phase I of Marshall Arts Training.

What is interesting is the new use of the words "We" and "Us".

He is seriously dedicated to being in an Honor Platoon.

He's kind of frustrated with some of the guys in his platoon.

Mentioned something about a "Dry Shower" if they cause the rest to fail.

Anyway, It is a good thing.

I am having a problem getting Ying to understand what private and

privacy means.

Could use some opinions here.

My letters from John are private to me and her letters are private

to her. That's how I look at it. I share some stuff but not word for word.

This pisses her off.

What's all three of my friends take on this

Hehehehe you are screwed. :(

There should be no secrets between a husband and wife but on the other hand you don't want to betray your sons trust.

Oh what a tangled web we weave.

I say keep them private. Don't worry if it pisses her off because it is her right to get pissed off anyway, right?

Here's a pic of me and John after swearing in.

Is the navy still riding around in wooden boats like on that flag? And what's with the big picture of a cigar on the sails?

Honestly though, I think that's a good picture

(And after looking at that flag more. What the hell is going on in it? Is that an eagle or a boat? Is that an anchor or part of the boat's sails? I am totally confused.)

Being somewhat of a kid myself, I usually assume that things I send back home will be shared with all living there. This includes phone calls. I typically call my dad to chat, and only call my mom for specific questions--or when Dad doesn't answer. I usually expect things to be relayed between them (and my brothers) regardless of who I call.

But of course, my family is probably different from yours. If John hasn't specifically asked you to keep things private, I'd be sure to ask in the next letter you send to him. Just say you're a proud dad and want to know what you're allowed to share. I don't know the kid, but I don't think he'd be upset by that... After all, I think everybody knows that proud dads like to brag.

By the way, congratulations on being a good dad! As much as he inspires you, I'm sure you're inspiring him just the same. Probably even more-so.
