xiaofeizhu
We were watching a documentary about this tonight! It looks really nice and the rest stop looks pretty good. I didn't understand the whole thing (big Chinese words lol) but I was pretty impressed! Link to comment
rogerluli
The scale and pace of China's infrastructure improvements is mind boggling... Seems to be one big advantage to a centrally planned economy... I am a rail fan and it is just about impossible to keep up on all the new rail lines being built all over China while in the US... Amtrak hangs on by its fingernails going clickety-clack, clickety-clack through my little town... Link to comment

dnoblett
I wonder how they classify it? The Lake Pontchartrain Bridge in Louisiana is 38.4 KM long,The Manchac Swamp Bridge in Louisiana is 36.7 KM. (I have driven this one it is freaking long!) But if you eliminate those very long bridges and just concentrate on Ocean bridges, then yes it will be long. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bridges_by_length http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=30....mp;t=h&z=10 Link to comment

OP's title is extremely misleading. It is the longest bridge of its kind and definitely not the longest bridge in the world. Isn't English such a wonderful language? Link to comment
Randy W
http://english.people.com.cn/90001/90776/90882/6402293.html The project survived 19 severe challenges, including typhoons, sea tides and geological problems, during construction, he said. Jin added the complicated climate conditions in Hangzhou Bay made the construction one of the most difficult in the world. "That is the biggest difference from the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge in southern United States." He was referring to the 38.4-km bridge across Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, considered the world's longest water-spanning structure. http://english.people.com.cn/mediafile/200805/02/P200805020933149089240626.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2f/Location_Hangzhou_Bay_Bridge.PNG Edited May 2, 2008 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment

Rail fan huh? You know the US RRs consider rail fans to be as bad as terrorists? At least the one I deal with does. Link to comment
