Update on Interview Questions

My fiancee, Wenjuan, arrived in Los Angeles a few days ago. We are both very happy.

 

I can now give you more information on her interview.

 

She was scheduled for an 8:00 am interview and waited for four hours. Eventually she was told to return at 2:00 pm for the interview as there were too many people.

 

She returned at 2:00 pm and was interviewed by an American woman. She described the woman as very beautiful with a lovely smile.

 

Here is the gist of the questions. The interview time was between 4 and 5 minutes in length.

 

VO: nihao, nihao

 

VO (in English now)

 

1. Have you ever come to America?

 

2. Who petitioned you?

 

3. How did you meet?

 

4. How many times did he come to guangzhou?

 

5. Do you have any photos?

 

I had prepared a portfolio of 22 photos which spaned my two visits. She was really impressed with the photos which included dates.

 

6. How long he stay here (this was important)?

 

The visa officer replied:

 

I give you visa. you come back tomorrow at 4 pm, stand at the door and wait for your visa.

 

That was it. I came away with the most important things were the photos and my two visits, the last which was over seven months.

 

We will marry probably in two weeks, at which time, will marry, apply for AOS, EAD and one other process which I forget. If all goes well, I hope to return to China in September for four or five months.

1. Who helped you to apply for the K1 visa? -My fiancée has helped me complete the application.

2. How do you know each other? -e.G. met on the internet and then got to know each other via phone calls. And since meeting we have become engaged to be married.

4. If you answer someone introduced you two]Have you any picture of the person who introduced you to each other? What is his name? -e.G. speak English and Chinese, since my fiancé’s Chinese is so wonderful we

can easily use that.

13. Have you met? -Yes.

20. If answer once] Can you marry him only having seen him once? -Yes, I feel I know him very well. We have communicated with each other every day since we have met. I am certain that we are well suited for each other; this is not a step I would take lightly.

23. What have you done when he came? -eg. We saw the XXX, shopping in XXX.ate some Sichuan food.

30. Have you any more pictures? Why didn't you take more? -eg:when we go out have a trip, it’s difficult to ask people to help a lot -Yes we have more, but when the camera is on a timer it's hard to get a good

photograph. Also, it can be embarrassing to always ask someone to help us take our pictures.

31. When you took out letters] what did make you decide to print out these letters????

-eg: There is too much, I only printed out sometime.

-I have over 1000 messages. I can only print out some, so I printed some of the

ones I didn't mind people reading, they are quite personal items. I understand

you may need to see some of them, but I am sure you don't want to see all of

them. I chose ones spanning a range of dates.

32. When did you decide to marry? -We decided to get married in XXXX

33. When did you get engaged? -e.G. got engaged when he came to visit me at the 2nd time.

78. Why do you want to marry him -Because we are in love and we would like to spend the rest of our lives

79 .He is much older than you. What do your parents think about this? -I don't think he is so much older. and my parents are happy that I have chosen a man I love.

80. Why do you want to know him. and are going to marry in US? -I know him already and yes we thought K1 could let us to be together fast.

81. As you both know each other in such short time. How do you know he is the

most one fit for you? -Time can't decide anything.

-Sometimes you can tell a lot about a person, how that person makes you

feel.How difficult life is without them. I have never met anyone like this

person who can give me those feelings.

82. All your friends and family member are in China. why do you want to go US to

marry him? -I want to stay with my future husband, I will be able to visit my friends in

China.

83. How do you feel when you will leave your hometown and family? will you feel

any sorrow? -Yes, I think I shall feel some sadness at leaving. but I will feel happy to be

toghter with my love.

84. You will emigrate very soon. Is this sudden? Are you happy?

-I am quite nervous about moving, but I know my fiancee will help me make the

adjustments.

86. When will you leave china? -I will leave as soon as I get my visa.We we have waited too long. -After I have finished my contract.

88. What kind of profession do you want to do? Do you want to study? what's your plan? -My fiancee and I are still talking about this. He knows I want to be a xxx and we have considered studying, but have no final plans yet. -My husband can support me until I have found suitable work.

89. When will you marry? -we will marry as quickly as we can,because we have been apart for long time

-We intend to marry as soon as we can.

90. Where will you marry?Why don't you marry in China? We shall marry in xxx

91. Please tell me your plan of marriage -eg.We can't plan until we have the visa, then we can decide how to get married.

92. Are you going to hold a wedding? -We would like to, until we know the dates of the K1 visa we cannot make anyconcrete plans, especially those involving a big wedding.

93. Are your parents going to be at your wedding? -I would like them to, my parents will need a visa to enter the US. We may hold a celebration in China at a later date.

94. Do you know you must marry in 90 day after you having entered the US?? -Yes

95. If you can't marry. what are you going to do? -We shall, if not then I know I must leave the US in 90 days.

As opposed to the "95 Questions" above, I have a collection of interviews ranging from 4 to 26 questions.. then you can see the sequence of questions for interviews.

I found that "95 questions" list on some website somewhere (maybe the Asian-American Couples board). I translated it and sent it to my SO with an explanation that they were sample questions, and that only a few questions would be asked.

 

My SO still almost had a heart attack.

 

I find the actual interview summaries that pop up here from time to time much more valuable, especially for a fiancee who doesn't speak a lot of English.

 

I've collected a few of the recently posted interviews, but it sounds like David has a much more complete library.

The more interview samples is good just to see the 'common' questions that fall out... and it gives you a feeling of short interviews to long ones. And shows that previous marriages by either can result in a few more questions.

 

But, since the VOs rotate after some time, I don't have them marked with a date (which I now regret)... to see any periodic patterns in the questions asked.

 

One person mentioned all VOs were asking for the employment letter that day.. a kind of 'question of the day' was being followed in his opinion.

 

I don't think I would show my SO the "95".. althought it is nice that it has sample responses...

Glad to hear about your good news!!

HOWEVER, if you return to China in a few months, you will almost certainly have to leave your new bride here in the US of A.

She will need a very compelling reason why she would HAVE to travel back to China to get the advanced parole so that she could re enter the US at some later date. Her fiancee visa is only good for ONE entry into the US.

Check into the section on advanced parole before she leaves the country!!!

My SO was interviewed by what they refer to as the "black pearl?" The lady was very nice and smiled so I am not sure if it is the same.

 

SO arrived about 0630 AM, there was another applicant that was there since 0300 My SO said that it was not "first come first serve", the appointment times had already been set for the day. Be prepared to wait a long time; also once inside the AC can be set to be pretty cold. The questions were standard:

where we met, how many times I have been there, what were the dates, did I meet her mother, what did her mother think of me, what my job was.

 

The VO asked for some pictures, then gave her the white slip with approved checkmarked.

 

2 days later she picked it up at the post office.

 

They didnt ask for any financial paperwork.

 

Most of all I could not have done it without the members of this website.
