  1. I have been doing some resarch and it appears you can bring family members over on a work visa. They have to pass an english test here is a website I found some info http://faq.visapro.com/H2B-Visa-FAQ3.asp#Q1 It sounds promissing because there are alot of places looking for help and I think I could bring my fiancee over for 6 months or a year before her interview. I don't know if the K1 denial will hurt her chances or not. But its worth a try if she can be here with me for 6 months or a year she could easily pass the interview.
  2. Not sure if this is the right forum. Feel free to move it. Can a nurse in china work in the USA without any additional training(other than English) ? I am wondering why we don't see more foriegners in this profession since it is such a high demand job or maybe there are but I just don't know about it. Just curious
  3. My wife received a job offer as a teaching assistant with the SF City College, ESL program, at the end of this semester. Seems she is the top student.
  4. Hi, I got my EAD card at the end of last month (no green card yet) and started looking for a job. I have EE master degree but no working experience. I'm limited to search for a local job because i want to stay with my husband, which is very obvious. up to now, there is no positive result. i'm a little upset and feel frustrated. maybe it is still not time to be frustrated. i'm wondering, if it is really difficult for the chinese wives to find a job?what kind of jobs do your chinese wives have?
  5. It has been a year since Fei got her learning permit. Started off in parking lots for about 4 months, then practiced in business park on sundays. Fei went back to China last spring and took 6 weeks of diving training there, but I did not see any improvement. It was difficult to get her to go over 25 in a 45mph road. She says "too fast!" And at night it's too dark! And if it rains, wait till it stops. Have been sending her out with a driving instructor the last 4 weeks once a week. But she does things that are not safe. Like slowing down from 40mph to 25mph when changing a lane. Not going when it is her turn at a stop sign, and cars honk or go around us. Bad left turns. She seems to lack judgement, and needs to pay attention to what she is doing. Can not remember the streets around our area after more than a year. She wants a license so she can practice on her own. I am afraid she will get lost too easily. has anyone else had this problem? In China she always took a bus, taxi or was driven by someone so she never had to pay attention on how she got to her destination.
  6. Is an "Employment Certificate" the same thing as the "Foriegn Expert Permit"?
  7. Yesterday in the mail was a welcome letter from the California Service Center saying Liwen's application was approved. It said the green card would arrive within 3 weeks. But in the same stack of mail was another letter with the green card enclosed. Talk about fast service! Our case was transferred from the Portland office to the Laguna Niguel, California Service Center a few months ago. We needed to get her vaccinations up to date and mailed them off to arrive at the service center on Sept 1st. The only little problems we had was with the nurse at the Civil Surgeon's office who would not believe all we needed was for the surgeon to sign the supplement since I had our family doctor already do the shots (covered by insurance this way). But I was firm and the doctor looked at the request form and said I was right -- and he signed and sealed the documents. Liwen did the Certified Nursing Assistant program shortly after she arrived and easily found a job at a local rehabilitation center here. Her long term goal is to improve her English more and then start the RN program. But for now she works day shift three or four days a week. So it is working out well. It is great to have this hurdle out of the way without an interview.
  8. Hello, My wife went for her biometrics last week. Is there a general rule as to when the "work permit" will be sent out after the bio is completed? Also, I have heard others say that they received a green card without an interview. How often does this happen and what is the factor that controls whether a interview is performed or not? If a interview is needed - how far out is it usually scheduled? Thanks, Scott
  9. Still filling all these forms out and getting the documents together. I want to be sure I understand this correctly as I am unable to find this spelled out as well as I like. (If you have a link to a gov site, please post). If we do not file the I-765 with the I-465, after we have an AOS interview for the I-465, she can then go to work without this form? Or do you need to file it no matter what if you want to work? For example, if she is not going to go to work for a year, and we might get an interview before that, is this just a waste of money? At what point can you get the "not authorized to work" stamp removed from the social security card? Thanks.
  10. Hi..... Not sure where to post this at..Anyway does anyone know of any good links for jobs in china?..The closer to Guangzhou the better..Was there last week and saw some but didnt think about it at the time..My wife has her own home in Guangzhou and we have been talking about me moving there instead of her moving here..She has more to lose than I do by moving..So thats probably what we will do...Any advice would be honored......
  11. My wife and I believe in raising our children and so I asked her the otherday if she could do anything in China for work what would she do and she said teacher. So our plan is when she arrives in America she will take some more indepth english classes. Then she will enrole in community college and get her gen credits done. we will have one or two children and while I am at work she will take care of them and when I come home I will watch the kids while she persues her teaching degree with online courses. by the time are children go to school she will be close to or done with her college courses and can find a teaching job which also opens up a couple months each year for her to go to china to visit her family. So teaching is a great idea for a job that will also allow you S.O. with free time for China.
  12. My wife starts work next week on her K-1 visa without and ead. I have been to the SSA web site many times trying to decipher their laws and meanings. It is also basically useless to call them. They have to many different replies. I will post this directly from the SSA web site with the address from this page and add some excerpts. I plan to print this out and have my wife bring it with her to the job in case they have any questions. Any lawyers out their want to tell me exactly how to interpret this. In this forum people say yes she can work without and ead. Others say she can defiantly not work. Read from this SSA web site and see what the consensus is. 13. I have a question, has any of you experienced the same thing I have. My financee, has gotten her visa a few weeks ago and she is planning her trip here, even though she is planning on flying here on Feb. 6th, she still has not put in her notice or told anyone at her place of employment, that she is moving to USA. Is this a common thing, as I would be putting my notice in the day I got the visa, s othat I would be able to plan things and get things going. But she seems to want to wait till the last min, which I don't understand that, as why wait. Wouldn't it be easier to give a longer notice. Specially if you are in a technical job, where they will need time to find / hire / train a replacement. Maybe it's a USA thing, but I would always give a much notice as I can, my last job, I gave a 6 week notice, as I wanted to stay until I got this one thing done, and I wanted to give them enough time to replace me and such, maybe it's just me. But with the Holiday comming up, which is a week long, there is not much time left for her to give them a notice long enough to be any good. Let me know your thoughts on it.
