Hong and I have arrived in Guanghou! We're staying at........dunno, a place on the 9th floor of the embassy building. LOL I haven't gotten my bearings yet! Hope to see some of you.
Just as i'm about to leave for Guangzhou there is a typhoon due to hit. It should make landfall about 12 hours before I am due to get there, but I'm a little worried about delays for both myself and Hong. She will be traveling by train from Henan to Guangzhou and if on schedule will pass right through the projected path of the typhoon. Hopefullt luck will be on our side!
Hong and I will be arriving the evening of the 20th so i won't see you guys at ASH. We're staying at one of the hotels in the consulate building, but I'm not sure which one! Hong tells me not to worry about it, she has it taken care of What a woman!!!
I have no idea when GUZ picked the packet up from customs. After being rudely told that if I wanted to know when, call GUZ by whoever answered the phone at DoS I stopped calling and figured it would happen when it happened. If you check my timeline though you can see that it took about 80 days, give or take a few.
I have a bit of experience traveling by train in China so It wont be a problem, Hong and I traveled from Zheng Zhou, Henan to Xi'an by train during New Years last January! Quite the experience! My only worry is getting around without speaking the lingo. Sounds like it won't be a big deal though. Thanks for all the replies! {Edit} Fixed broken Quote Tags.
That United flight sounds good. Thanks! How much trouble is it to catch the train to Guangzhou for a non Chinese speaker? Do i need to get a visa to enter Hong Kong or will my China visa cover it?
I called DoS today just to confirm what I already suspected and, yes, Hong's packet is still in customs. I was really hoping that we could sneak through quickly, but it seems that won't be happening here.
Our NVC time was Jan 9 to March 31. It could have been shortened by a couple of weeks if I had read and follwed James shortcuts prior to our packet arriving at NVC, but all in all, it was a quick (for a government agency) process.
