  1. Thanks for all the replies. Transportation in LA is not so much of a problem...3 of my mom's siblings and all their kids live there, so they have volunteered there. We thought we would fly into LAS, but actually, we can technically catch a ride from above persons to Vegas if we want to. I prefer to fly because I am prone to car sickness, and my morbid fear of flying will last only one hour vs. 5 hours of wanting to barf... I don't mind having the passport sent if you guys think it's safe. If I am understanding correctly, I could technically not even spend a night in LA. I like the idea of flying into LAX and then flying out of LAX, dropping the passport off and then picking it up. In Vegas, I don't need the "experience" lol. We will most likely stay downtown, since I am pretty familiar with the area (we used to go to Vegas almost once a year). We will probably save some money that way and then visit the Strip on one of the days, maybe spend a night there if we save enough money by not staying in LAX. Thanks everyone for their input. Has anyone had their passport Fed-Ex/UPSed after dropping it off? Do I prepay this by going to a Fed-Ex or UPS office and buying some kind of envelope?
  2. Ok, so we have a family reunion in Las Vegas next year, but first, hubby and I would like to stop in Los Angeles to renew his passport. I have a few questions for anyone with any knowledge that is willing to share 1. How many days will we need in Los Angeles? Can we just submit the passport and have them mail a new one or is it best to wait there? Is one day enough, or is three, or more, better? 2. Is the best option to fly into LAX, get a hotel, and then fly into LAS, then fly back to Hawaii? Or does anyone else have any other ideas? 3. Anyone know of good, cheap hotels either near LAX or near the consulate? I can get meals and hotel for $350 for 4 nights in Las Vegas through a popular company, Vacations Hawaii, so I am not as worried about that part. 4. I am guessing that from Hawaii (HNL) this should cost around $2,000 per person? Am I getting ripped off at that price? Any and all suggestions welcomed!!
  3. I did not get my EOR notarized. I did attend ACH, but I chose not to have it notarized because well, a notary is just showing that the signature on the document is the signature of the person it says it is. I know others will chime in saying that you should get it done, but I decided to save the $30. I did not frontload the EOR, so hubby had it on hand when he went to the interview. It was handwritten, since some folks get requests for handwritten EORs, but I have handwriting like a printer...if you don't you may want to type it anyway. The VO never looked at the EOR, even though hubby tried to give it to him. At this point, it's pretty much cruise control until the interview. I would just bring it and try to get it into the file when she turns in her medical and stuff before the interview. No sense trying to send anything now, it might not even get looked at in the month until your interview.
  4. Congratulations! There is nothing better than the feeling of your husband in your arms. It looks like it was a long ride for you, so I am sure it is all the sweeter. Enjoy and best wishes!
  5. I often use Baidu, especially for music use, like Tony. I have used it to download music and also to find new songs that peak my interest. However, I never used it for much else, other than when I was in China. In the US, I use it from time to time, but only for Chinese info or things related to China. I don't think Google will ever have a stronghold in China unless they do something spectacular that increases their popularity. My husband refuses to use anything but Baidu, even for US related searches.
  6. Ok, I finally remembered what my QQ number was. I was able to sign in and connect to the messenger, etc. but I could not use the Chinese input!!! The Psiloc Crystal did not work...it did not display the input options. That was really disappointing. At least now I can read the things people send me, but I cannot type back in ºº×Ö so that is a bummer. Anyone know how to fix this?
  7. Really? So it wanted you to create a new QQ number? That's junk. I will go look up my QQ number after I eat lunch and get back to you on whether or not it works on my phone.
  8. Sorry to hear about it, and best wishes for a speedy overcome! It sounds like all you need to do is give them the resume and it will be all fixed! Good luck!
  9. We used China Mobile when in China and the three phones we brought back to the US all worked with my ATT/Cingular SIM card. I think you will most likely be facing the choice of switiching to ATT or TMobile or getting her a new phone.
  10. http://mobile.qq.com/m/Nokia/E71 I still need to try it out because I still need to remember what my QQ number is!
  11. When you gotta go . . . well, you shudda already went !! http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/ariel-schw...ing-save-energy LOL. No wonder I always fly JAL, not ANA. One hour can be a long time to wait for some people....
  12. I don't think it will have much of an effect on your relationship, but what she probably needs most is your support and reassurance. As long as she knows that you still love her no matter what and that you don't "look down" her because of what happened, I am sure things will be ok. She probably has a lot of emotions about it, though, so as long as you are understanding of how she might act differently during this tough time, your relationship will probably come out stronger as you get through it together.
  13. Just an update if you're still wondering. I downloaded the QQ for my E71. Tonight I just downloaded the Psiloc Crystal for Chinese and Japanese. It works well and now I can see all the characters on the QQ! One problem is that I have not signed into my QQ for like a year and I forgot my ID number so I have to go ask my hubby later. It seems like it will work fine, though. Anyway, the Psiloc Crystal is very good, the only problem is that you cannot run both the Japanese and Chinese together. SOOOOO, if you just want it to be able to read and write Chinese, then it is fine. If you want to be able to do Chinese and another language at the same time, it does not work well...actually it does not work at all...you can only do one at a time. But I still highly reccommend it.
  14. Congrats on the GC arrival! Go have fun now!
  15. Good luck on pink! Happy Holidays!! Hope to hear back from you on how it goes!
  16. The law is that you are allowed to look at your credit history once a year for free. It will not tell you the score but you can look at everything else from the 3 big credit reporting companies. I know this, but the companies refused. Hubby was by the phone so it is not like they denied me because I wasn't my husband. This ever happen to anyone else? It was about 6 months after coming to America so he should have had some kind of report since he had a social and was on my card for 6 months. Oh well, maybe he can get his report this year lol. What was their reason for refusal? They are required by law to let you view the contents of what they keep on you (if they have one.) All 3 bureaus have AVR phone lines where you can leave your info and they will snail mail you a report. If you can't get through the phone maze, you can write them for a report. Send it via certified mail with return receipt to get their attention. I dunno what their deal was. I was able to access all of mine from each of the three bureaus' sites with no problem (just enter name, social, blah blah, etc.) I was on the phone for over an hour with Experian to get my hubby's but they just kept on going around in circles telling me no, etc. I tried to call Equifax I think it was and I hung up after 20 minutes of the run around. Like I said, though, maybe he just had no history, in which case a "he has no history" would have been nice. I will try again this year and let you all know how it goes. Incidentally, hubby said he just got an email from equifax saying they had his free report online. How ironic.

  18. sorry to hear about your white. If you'd like to tell us more about it, some might be able to offer advice as well. Don't give up, let your love for each other carry you through.
  19. well first im coming back dec 27th, then 2 months after me Yihan will come, I just bought a new house and there is nothing inside it(literally nothing ) so i gotta get set up! Awesome! Don't forget to leave some things for her to do too so that she can feel like she helped put your home together! Also bring as much of her stuff to America now as you can/she will let you...it will be much easier later, especially if she has a lot of stuff like my hubby and i did! Happy Holidays!
  20. Good luck! I know you will bring her back, and probably bring back a few pounds since you will be there for spring festival!!!
  21. Sorry to hear about your delay. I don't have experience in this area, but I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. They will get it sorted out. Have a Happy Holidays!!!
  22. Glad to hear things are getting better! A 3.5 is awesome! I hope she is proud of herself too! Congratulations on the GC approval! I am sure it was a relief and welcomed Christmas gift for all of you so that you can spend your holidays without worrying about it! Happy Holdiays!
  23. I believe this happens to most everyone. My hubby arrived in late July 2007. In August, I had him added to my one credit card. He tried to apply for other cards and was denied 3 times. As others have said, yes, even for Macys!! I had him on my card for over a year now, and because of his job, we have had a credit increase and things like that. Just a few weeks ago, he applied for a Macys card and was approved!! Now, he can start building credit on his own. It takes time though. I tried to apply, jointly, for a new card with a higher limit. We were denied. I went back and processed the same application for just myself, and was approved. Another word of caution is applying for a lot of credit cards. It does impact your history, just to apply and stays on your record. I would add her to your cards, pay them off on time, and then wait for at least 6 months of doing this. PS, all of the credit bureaus are like this. I could not get my husband's credit report no matter what I tried. I will be trying again next month, hopefully now that he has been here for a while it will show me his report. I was also on the phone for over an hour, but they just did not get it that he was an immigrant and that his social was just issued to him, yes he is over 18, I know that, but how can his social be so new if he is over 18, blah blah blah. OMG!
