  1. I hope this is the correct forum. My wife's green card was stolen we feel and we applied for a replacement. It's been over 5 months and not received and I remember some telling what month applications the USCIS is working on. Is there a link for that information or is that found out by a call in. Thanks in advance,
  2. She said she will receive the income/benefits on a card which she can use any time.
  3. From what I understand, No, they won't stop paying after she becomes a US citizen.. .. otherwise it's not worth it.
  4. dnoblett, Do you know anything about retirement (Chinese)? My wife has the understanding if she becomes US citizen before "vested" in China for retirement at age 50, she will lose all retirement benefits. If after "vested" she becomes a US citizen then she will/can receive retirement benefits. Retirement and Property ownership are the two biggest obstacles so far. Tks, Haoran
  5. I have a question related to this topic. What if the American Born US Citzen Husband finds work/employment in China and he would like to bring his wife (Chinese greencard holder) and son (Chinese greencard holder)? So the US would deny them reentry into the US if out of the country for 2 plus years in that scenario? tks. Haoran...
  6. My wife's family has property in China which is in my wife's name and my wife's family is paying in on her national health insurance which I think in another 10 years she'll be "vested". If she becomes a US citizen will that cause complications with either her family's property and/or her health insurance? She has a 10 year green card which she's into now for 3 years. Thank you, Haoran.
  7. Thanks all. My wife and son are both green card holders since Oct 23rd 2009 and both have SS Numbers since early this year or late last year, can't remember.
  8. In what way? What kind of claims can I make? I haven't added them as Exemptions yet. tks
  9. I've had my wife and son (8 years old) here in the US for over 3 months now and I want to claim them as Exemptions on my income taxes. They are both green card holders and my wife is not working. Is this possible? I saw this on one web page: Citizenship To qualify for an exemption your dependent must either be: • a US citizen, • a resident of the US, Canada, or Mexico for part of the year, • a legally adopted foreign child who now resides in the US, or • an adopted child living w/you the entire year in a foreign country. Oh, also, we have no US marriage cert. Just the Chinese one which was used in the I-130 application process. Thanks in advance,
  10. yeah, my wife and son are here. This is not through work as the price for family insurance at my work is nearly 750.00 a month. Much cheaper to buy outside through Blue Cross/Blue Shield (strange as that may sound, it's true). I didn't go through the steps of getting a SSN for either of them because in one of my documents (DS-230) there was the option that we checked which will have them send an SS Card. "Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you a SSN and Issue you a Card?" We selected YES in this option. If I go for a SSN now it would screw up the process? Double issue of cards? Thanks.
  11. I'm trying to get health insurance for wife and son but Insurance company is requesting SSN or Tax ID, both of which I do not have. I have receive their I-797C documents each with an "A" Number. Does anyone have suggestions on how to do this (get insurance)? Or do I need to wait until the Green Card and SSNumbers arrive? Thanks in advance.
  12. In the future I may have work in China. Now that my wife is in the US and is awaiting her 10 year Green card, I'm thinking of how this would affect her in the future. From what I understand the US government wants the visa recipients to remain in the US. Can this be worked out or does she need to remain in the US to keep her green card status? Thanks in advance.
  13. My wife will be returning with me at the end of this month and would like to bring her dvd collection with her. These are all out of their slip covers and in CD/DVD carry books. Anyone foresee a problem with this? Anyone have problems at customs with DVDs.. She has maybe 125 at the most, maybe less than 100. Thanks,
  14. One more thing, what's a good method of bringing money into the states from China? Convert RMB to USD in China and get an international cashier's check? Or, is it possible to wire it to my bank? I don't want to see it stolen either.... Thanks for your replies.
  15. Are there allowances for new visa holders to bring more than the declared limit (10k) without being taxed? Or, do they tax amounts which need to be declared? Anyone know the ins and outs of this? My wife will be given a gift by her parents to start her new life. I would like her to have all of it coming into the US. thanks for any help here.
  16. Thanks dnoblett, Any follow up data regarding after arrival? Need to go to Health Dept, need testing, etc? I'm thinking it might be a safe guard to confirm or deny the findings of the medical exam in China. Double checking.
  17. My wife's son has this stamped on his Visa.. Class A or B(TB) Req. ATTN. of USPHS at POE Can anyone tell me what this will entail at POE? He had his medical tests and they where negative and he had a Chest X-ray, also no problem there. But he did have a cough at the time of his medical exam. Will we be detained at POE? Tested? Or allowed to pass and contacted later? Thanks for any help on this.
  18. I will be coming back with my wife in October and we need to know how much time we should allow to get through customs and to our next flight. I was thinking 4 hours should be fine and not rushed. Is this too much, about right, or.... ??? Thanks in advance
