  1. HI Guys, I'm considering if I should spend some money to have my teeth straightened. I don't like to wear some braces like some teenagers do. I'm not a teenager after all. Recent years, there has been a way to straighten teeth by wearing a sort of transparent, plastic tooth case. The tooth case is called "liner". The way to straighten teeth is called "invisalign". It takes a long time for sure, maybe a year at least. I would like to know or to listen to those who have experienced the same. Do you feel it's worthy of the time and energy? I'll have to pay over 4000 dollars. Is this sum of money more or less than yours? Any ideas are welcome to me, be it positive or negative. Please share. Thank you!
  2. Wow, I have 175 "likes" now. It's much more than last year!! I'm sooo happy. 175 should be my highlight for today. I've not come to the forum for quite a few weeks. How is everyone doing? I'm going to correct my teeth even lately. So I'd like everyone's idea about making the teeth even in another topic. Please tell me anything you know or heard about it, be it positive or negative. See you there. xiexie da jia!
  3. Thank you Randy for "like this". One of my pleasures has been checking how many "Likes" I have on the forum. Each time I see a reminder of the red spot on the top of my page, I would be very happy as if I see my savings getting higher at my bank. Yes, I love collecting the "likes" to see the number being up, and up. Shiiiiiii, don't tell anyone------- da jia kai xin jian kang! Teacher Li = Miss Li
  4. Thank you Randy! You're a wonderful help here! xiexie ni! Zhou mo yu kuai = Have a good weekend! Teacher Li
  5. Dear all, I applied for my son's green card in 2013 when my son was a student in America. So he has been waiting. Now he is working for a government company in mid of America and this company can also give him working visa. My question: which way should he go in the pursuit of his permanent ID? Should he turn to his company and give up the waiting line? We don't want it to be complicated. Thank you in advance! Catherine
  6. Hello Mr. Blue!! Thank you very much for the websites! They are very practical for me. I favorite them right away. Xiexie ni! Best wishes Catherine
  7. Yes, Greg, I'm very careful. I'm strict with myself being perfectionist. Thank you for your idea. yes, children don't even adopt their parents' accent.
  8. I feel American government is funny. One way they want to block illegal immigration, another way, they offer free education to these illegal immigrant's offspring. I'm teaching these illegal people's children every day. I guess this is the reason that I love America.
  9. HI friends, thank you for being concerned. I know what is my problem in speaking English. There is nothing to do with my teeth, or my "th, or s" sound. I have taught English pronunciation lol. Ironically I just can't speak it the way native speakers do. Some friends correct my certain words. I can't even mimic correctly. The reason is my mom. She should be to blame. She never taught me English! I have several websites to practice speaking English. Here is one. https://www.duolingo.com/ Today, at English class, I had one girl who speaks English very well come to the front of the class playing as a teacher. I asked the other kids read after the girl. I made it clear that I was training them to be a future great speaker or a wonderful teacher. But I know I was looking for a way not to lead the kids into following my accent. I didn't teach math today, but I went into the same math class that frustrated me the other day. I found their American teacher was frustrated as well. Several kids even can't count from one to ten. It's a normal second grade class, not in special education. No wonder Randy said, even at high school, they were only limited to addition and subtraction, positive only. I wish I had a magic power!
  10. This is completely new news to me. I've never heard of American dogs attacking people so violently. I thought they are well trained and well leashed. The dog owner should pay everything to the Chinese man, I believe. Allon, do you mean cats can maul people too? Maybe we should keep a piper spray in our pocket or a delicious meat with us wherever we go. However, we don't meet such terrible dogs every day or in our whole life. I won't pet other people's any dogs or any cats from now on. Most Chinese people have smaller houses than Americans do. American houses include back yard and front yard. So the bigger space spoils big dogs.
  11. Thank you for so many good ideas. Thank you Randy, thank you Greg, and thank you Larry. Like Randy said, their attention span is quite short. Their main language is Spanish. I don't speak English the way their main teacher does. People can't tell if I'm saying wall or war, for instance. I don't mind my accent but I do need a clear pronunciation that will make me a decent English teacher. Good idea that I should tip the kids for doing a good job! From now on I'm immersing myself in the English environment but I know I've passed the age to learn to say a foreign language. Best wishes to everyone!
  12. Hello Greg! Everyday is a gift to us all! Larry, I post a new one. See you there! Greg, I also need your idea how to improve speaking English.
  13. Hello every friend! How is everyone doing? It's been almost four years since I became a member on CFL. I truly love our forum. After I become an ESL teacher for Tulsa Public Schools, I'm more and more frustrated with my own English accent or English pronunciation. As an English teacher, I have to be a living dictionary standing in the classroom. It's a requirement of myself and from myself. Yesterday I taught Spanish-speaking children second grade math. I only taught them simple addition. But these children are so hard to teach. It seems they will never learn. Some of them don't know how to count and don't know what equals five plus three. They have their main teacher to learn from. I observed their learning and teaching many times. Yesterday I taught a group of children. The other teacher taught a group of kids. We taught in one room. This is the least that I like American classroom. The teachers often separate the kids into several groups in one room. Some go on the computer to learn. Some sit on the floor learning things by playing games. Some are drawn to the teacher who is teaching something else. All these groups are doing their own business at the same time in one room. How can they focus on learning? My voice is too weak. I only keep my own reservations. When I can't make the kids learn, I'm very frustrated. I thought I could be the best teacher but now I know that I have to practice speaking Okie English perfectly. But I can't! No matter how hard I tried. I can't speak English the way you guys do. What shall I do? I'm so frustrated!!! Thank you for being my friends, everyone! I would like to use my story to entertain you guys for a happy three days! Catherine
  14. Hello Larry, hello Randy, I wonder how the hurricane is being retreated. I'm still thinking of that poor Chinese guy. After his own tragedy, the hurricane came to attack. Does anyone know of the man's news? Yajie
  15. What a horrible tragedy! Two dogs were attacking one Chinese man in America. Have never heard of such a thing. "God, heal this man please."
  16. I have not been on CFL for quite a while but now just at this moment, I got such a sad news. In the begging I thought you guys were joking for fun. Carl was one of my first friends here on the forum. Life is short. From now on, I must often visit my friends.
  17. Greg, it's a background check for work. Nothing to do with immigration stuff. I agree with you that it will save time if we offer more details of our own information. Thanks! Catherine
  18. Hi everyone, I have a question here. When filling in my "Place of Birth" to go through the background check, should I give "China" or should I give specific place, "Changchun China"? thank you in advance. I really need help now.
  19. Hello Allon, Mick and Jack, Good to see you here! I like to call Amberjack, "Jack" lol thank you for your encouraging messages. It seems that the university didn't mention TOFEL. They only hope to have Christian students who has no problem with tuition. I'll talk to them again about the specific requirement. If they enroll enough students from Asia, I'll be their counselor. For this summer, I'll teach ESL for the international students. It's our initial plan. So please know if they come to this university, your young friends will have a Chinese mom on the campus. That is me. Peace to everyone Catherine
  20. Hello everyone! It's been over one year since I was working for an elementary school in Tulsa. Now it's time for me to move up. As the fate arranged, I met a President at a university nearby. He is asking me to help him enroll Chinese students to his university. The tuition is 20,000 dollars one year. The boarding fee, meaning dormitory and food together, is 10,000 dollars one year. It's a Methodist Christian university. I wonder if some of you have some friends, relatives, and family who likes to come to the mid of America to study. I'll be their Chinese Mom at the university who works as a counselor. Please send me a personal message if it's very sensitive or personal. I'm 100% honest with everyone. May the New Year be amazing to you! In HIS Grip Catherine
  21. Beautiful!! Thank you Randy for the video! Happy new year to you and to everyone!
  22. "Don't try on that joke" lol I'm learning from you again, Mr. PHD! Thank you! Mediocre mediocre, mediocre mediocre
  23. HI Friends, good to come here again. Greg, Ok is Oklahoma. Why do you say it is "Mediocre"? I'm curious and want to learn. Allon, The loan topic between China and America is the very thing that I feel bad. I should not have brought it up. Our kids are never easy. One boy often kicks his desk suddenly and violently to the floor when the teacher is teaching. One girl steals whatever she sees from the teacher's table. Her own grandma was caught while shoplifting right in front of her face. There're problems with other children too. It's hard to teach them math and English. I'm not a certified teacher but I teach a lot. I tell myself from time to time that I should be grateful. As soon as I landed in OK America, I was employed. The payment is enough to support myself. I have every reason to be grateful though the job is a stepping stone for me. I'll move up to a better job. Have a good one Catherine
