  1. cut and paste to a word doc, edit as you wish. http://www.ilrg.com/forms/auth-foreigntravel.html
  2. Let me suggest something you might want to consider. I assume she is a party member, since in all likelyhood she is in order to have such a job with such a company. That you discuss with her any possible ramifications to family members still there because of her leaving the country.
  3. We received a RFE for I-693 Vaccination Supplement after her AOS was transfered to CSC. She is pregnant and due in early March but we must respond with the Vaccination Supplement by February 20. We discussed these vaccinations with her doctor a couple of weeks ago and she advised the TD is probably okay but the MMR and Varicella shoult NOT be given to her in her condition (I confirmed this to be true on the CDC website). So, what to do? Would a Civil Surgeon still sign off? As complete? Waived? Any advice would be appreciated. Pat
  4. Yep. We showed them her EAD (and DL), which is in her married name, it too was needed but SAVE also had to match.
  5. Same here. Appearently her maiden name is still in the SAVE computer. Whatever that SAVE is. So until that computer data base is updated with her married name, SSI will not issue a new card in her married name until it matches exactly with the name in SAVE. I do not know who the contact to have the SAVE updated, maybe someone here knows. I'm thinking this won't happen until after AOS is granted.
  6. Me 2. Been waiting since NOA1 of 6/3/04. Now it's just going to someplace new to gather dust. Atlanta was just about to catch up to us, bummer.
  7. IMPORTANT for those worried about communist party membership: my wife was a communist party member and we were completely open about it both at the interview in China and the AOS interview. - fhtb This is really good to know, thanks for that tidbit of info. That's the first time I've read anything on the CCP affect at the AOS interview. congrats.
  8. I have a few questions on this if y'all don't mind. Why is a I-134 needed? I can't find anywhere stating this requirement, other than word of mouth. When is a I-134 needed? Why must we state in the invitation letters that we will pay for all expences? (Her parents may take offence, i.e. implying they can't pay for anything themselves). Since my wife is still in AOS limbo, does not having the green card have any bearing? (She does have EAD, AP, SSN and a DL). FYI, Applying thru Shanghai Embassy. thanks
  9. Hey Kim, The info pass can be of help. It's been a while since I've posted since I don't have much to comtribute, but I can share our experience in this area with you. After calling the useless info line for 7 months on Chang's EAD and getting nowhere, we scheduled an info pass interview and drove 3 hours to Atlanta. The INS lady checked her computer and said the EAD was approved 6 months before. What??? The useless info line and the useless online status gave no such indication. So we asked her where is it? She said that since NBS was processing it and she was Atlanta, she couldn't do anything. Bite my tongue, find what little charm I have, and ask her kindly if she can help us since we have absolutely no where else to turn. She said she would send an email to "whoever", and call us if she can get any info. After we got back home, she called us. She said all we need to do is do the biometrics, again. (The computer that took her pic and prints broke down later that day and the info was never sent to "wherever"). The jagoffs never bothered to inform or contact anybody, so we were left just waiting for nothing. It amazes me that after so many inquiries on the info lines that nobody knew all we needed was to re-do the bio's. The EAD card came a week after the re-do, (with only a few months left, and have to renew, since the 1 year period started from "their" approval date). So anyhow, if you can get someone at info pass nice enough to help you, but you practically have to beg, the it might be worth your while. Good luck, Pat p.s. expecting baby feb. 28.
  10. Update: Good news. Can now get a AL drivers license. http://www.alabamastatetrooper.com/dps_rev...t_licensing.htm DPS revises immigrant licensing rule The Associated Press MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama has revised its immigrant driver's licensing rules to include a broader range of acceptable documents, a move taken after a lawsuit argued the rules wrongly excluded hundreds living legally in the state. The main change announced Tuesday is the acceptance of foreign passports as a valid form of identification, effective May 17. "We have adopted the broadest possible range of acceptable visas and other documentation of immigrants to allow for licensing and, at the same time, ensure positive identification and protect the integrity of Alabama's driver licensing system," said Col. Mike Coppage, director of the Department of Public Safety, in a statement. Haran Lowe, an attorney for DPS, said because passports are required to enter the United States, virtually any foreign resident who entered legally is eligible for a driver's license under the new rule. "Basically, this added the valid foreign passport as a primary identifier," said Lowe. "What we tried (to do) is be as loose as possible and guarantee the identification of people getting licenses." However, immigrants seeking asylum or refugee status will have to produce federal documents that prove they are legally in the country. The announcement followed a lawsuit filed nearly a month ago by eight immigrants. The suit contends that in some cases immigrants don't have the other required documents because they didn't need them to enter the country legally. Ben Bruner, an attorney for immigrants, has said his clients often have Social Security numbers, work authorization permits and taxpayer ID numbers, proving the federal government accepts them as legal residents — but Alabama won't give them a driver's license. Bruner did not immediately return phone calls by The Associated Press Tuesday. Boyd Campbell, a Montgomery immigration attorney, said he believes the suit stands because, despite accepting foreign passports and more visa categories, DPS is still rejecting secondary documents issued by the federal government. "Our position is that the Departments of Public Safety should not be in the business of enforcing federal immigration law," Campbell told the AP Tuesday. "After many months ... foreign passports are finally included, but the secondary list is full of documents they will not accept. For example, they do not include residency documents." Lowe said he hadn't fully reviewed the lawsuit yet. But he said at least one of the plaintiffs, Dr. Fazal Rahim of Talladega, is now eligible for an Alabama license because he has a foreign passport. Rahim was recruited to come work in Alabama because the state doesn't have enough doctors, according to Bruner. Rahim also already had a valid Ohio driver's license but was denied when he applied for one in Alabama, though he had a visa waiver. That's because Alabama does not accept out-of-state licenses as positive identification, and at the time did not accept the foreign passport either. Stringent rules are not only crucial to protect against illegal immigrants and terrorists, Lowe said, but also to safeguarding banks and other businesses from identity fraud.
  11. Matt, I'll copy my post here of our experience arriving at Detroit from Shanghai. I don't think 1.5 hours is enough unless everything goes very smoothly. Luckily our connecting flight from DTW to MEM (then to, MGM) was three hours later. Remember, she also has to claim her luggage and then re-check it for the next flight. "BEWARE !!! Dumb-ass immigration officials ahead. This is why I like to be present at every step. Upon her arrival, the immigration officer didn't know what a K-1 visa was. So they took her to a holding room for an hour. Then another dumb-assed immigration officer told her that her visa had expired and was extreamly rude to her. She said "no way" and since I was waiting for her in the airport they can talk to me. So they called me, I had to explain to them what a K-1 visa was, and it certainly wasn't expired. Finally, a supervisor came and stamped her papers and told her she can go. No appologies, nothing. I tell you, it is so dam hard to keep curtious to these people, but you must, because they can say NO at any step for no reason at all. This is what really ticks me off. I'll let this incident go to, my honey is now in my arms every night. "
  12. Chang lived on Nenjiang road, but worked downtown also, on Zhongshen road near the stadium. We spent many hours on Nanjing road since on 2 of my visits we stayed at the Peace and Park hotels, ha, maybe we bumped into you. How are you adjusting to life here? I know Chang likes it well enough, but really misses having someone to talk to that she can relate to. I'm sure you know what I mean. We just sent off her AOS/EAD/AP papers to Atlanta, so we have another long time to wait, but at least we are together.
  13. Lori, Your husband should not need his passport, his driver's license is enough for his identification. It would be a good idea to bring along a couple of his pay stubs also. I don't think you need your college verification. By the way, my wife is from the YangPu district of Shanghai, what part of the city are you from. Pat
  14. I do think being there carries some weight, you can read my posting from our interview experience here: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....889007b20376121
  15. Patrick, You might want to try this long distance service for direct dialing. For US to China, I use a phone company called Asian American Association Telecom Services http://www.aaats.com 1-888-888-8881. Rate is 4.9 c/min. to both land line or mobile phone in Asia, 6.9 c/min for long distance US calls. They also send you a 30 free min calling card with every monthly bill. Also, you can have these same rates apply from your cell phone. Pat
  16. Best of luck Clifford. Your patience and fortitude has been admirable.

  18. A news report from a TV station in Montgomery, AL. It will be interesting how this turns out. Immigrant Lawsuit Against DPS A lawsuit is filed against the Department of Public Safety by eight immigrants. The suit claims Alabama driver's license rules wrongly excludes hundreds of people living in the state. The immigrants argue that documents that are required to obtain a license are unavailable due to delays in processing by the Federal Government. Lawyers for DPS have argued in the past that the agency's rules must be strict to prevent illegal immigrants and terrorists from obtaining a driver's license.
  19. Back to the original question. October 14, 2003 Changes to Local/District I-485 "Adjustment/Green Card" Application Procedures The changes in Local/District-filed I-485 "Adjustment/Green Card" applications procedures that were implemented in New York (in September), will apply to all districts ~within the next three months~. Local/District-filed adjustments (I-485) and related applications such as I-131 AP/travel permit, I-765 EAD/work authorization, will continue to be accepted at the local/district office, but then forwarded to the National Benefits Center (NBC). Initial "fee-in" receipts may be issued from the local/district office, but application receipts will be generated from the NBC. (These notices will include biometrics appointment receipts for the applicants to appear at a local Application Support Center (ASC).) Currently, it is advised that even if multiple biometrics appointment receipts are mailed to the applicant (for each application), the applicant should contact the US CIS as instructed (even if he/she already has been digitally fingerprinted/photographed). Also, in the near future, these types of applications will be mailed directly to the NBC for processing.
  20. Glad to see they sped things up for you after such lengthy delays. Get those forms back quick to keep it moving.
  21. Welcome back Mr. & Mrs. Du, and congratulations on your nuptials.
  22. I'm holding my breath for ya'. Maybe it's just a clerical thing where you must first show up for the visa, then they put it in the batches to have the visa printed and affixed in the passports. Lets hope this is all that it is. Now that you are armed with the approval and clearence letters I don't see how they can do anything else but give then their visas already.
  23. No sweat, piece of cake. Congrats!!! Let the good times roll. Enjoy some time with Mei and Pei without even thinking about the next AOS step. We're happy for ya.
  24. Don't sweat it Louis, Mei will do just fine, have faith. And try to relax a bit. As for your question, I suggest that shortly after she arrives and before you marry, apply for her SSN since it is needed for many things. You just don't know how long you will be waiting for the EAD after you file the AOS. Good luck in LA, we'll miss y'all here in the south. Oh, Chang and I are doing fantastic together, it couldn't be better between us. Our wedding is on May 1st. Thanks for asking. Since there is like only 2 other Chinese in this small town, I'm even considering moving to SF. There she might have a better chance of meeting some friends she can relate to. For now, we are just going to wait and see how things go here. Don't forget to post the good news.
