I know lao po uses 001 but what her name is etc.. im not sure, I have not signed up for it. She lives in Kunshan (Jiangsu Province). I'm from Portland, OR. I guess it would be nice to have a map with dots on it, some sort of visual of locations... hmnn, google earth plug-in perhaps? @_@ way too advanced for my nerdy'ness but would be cool.

That is a very scary post when you first read it! Most of us sit around and complain about how long it takes, while others have illness and this situation is pretty bad. I'm glad you posted this question, Steve. I looked at my stepdaugter's online case and WoW!...it has been "touched!", with a new date, October 30, 2007. I use alta vista babel fish, for short phrases. But I suggest you start learning chinese, these translators can only do so much. You might want to try out Kingsoft Powerword, you can hover over words with the mouse and it will show a translation of the character!

From what i've read at VJ's you are "touched" every time your file is passed to another person working on your file, so say man A. passes it to man B. they have to scan the file so they know exactly where that file is at all times, this results in a "touch". When they open up your file they scan it, when they close it they scan it etc... So if he takes his lunch break, your getting "touched".

I had read of "losing face" before I first met my SO in person, but likewise, I had no idea telling others we met on the internet would make her lose face. Compaired, I think she took it pretty well... I said something along the lines of "It doesnt matter what they think, as long as we are happy" I've explained it in many different ways how americans view it. I'm lucky enough that she not only understands but accepts that I have no shame haha. We kissed in public countless times, in front of many chinese and by the time I left I think her mind has changed, yet that root is still insider her and once in a while she feels embarassed. I think after some time in the US she will atleast accept our concept of "no shame" ;-)

I'm not too worried about it, one of our first conversations was about money and how it wasn't too important to me, material things that is. She admitted she was materialistic but I think we both have an understanding that I'm not rich and that I really don't care to be as long as I live happily and stable. I think she understands that, but still, with a want to be rich in her. This doesn't mean she will leave me because I don't plan to become a doctor like she suggested! Thats about love, not wealth. Holy cow I'm the the youngest on here anymore! Extending my welcome out to you here on CFL bud. I use the Windows built-in IME. I made a video here... explaining how to do that. Your QQ, however, might be displaying boxes and ??? I'm guessing, and this is a result of you not setting your system to Chinese for non-unicode programs. It's pretty simple to do. That same place I showed you to go in that video... go there (Regional and Language Options). Click on the the Advanced tab and select Chinese from the first drop-down list. Click ok and you'll be asked to restart your computer. After restarting QQ should now display Chinese characters. I also have an English version of QQ if you like. I don't use it anymore though because the Chinese version is more up-to-date and because I need to learn anyway. This is all assuming you're running Windows XP. I used to use NJ Star. Many of my friends use it because you can type easier in it. For example if you want to type "Ni hao" you simply type "nh" and it will dispay the common combinations of characters starting with "n" and "h". "BKQ" would also give you "Bu Ke Qi". So it's faster. However I didn't like that bar always at the bottom of the screen, and the thing was a trial with a start-up delay. I also vaguely recall some other problem with it but I can't remember exactly what it was... perhaps something about the way it handled the English or numeric input. Like if I tried to sign onto QQ and I knew I was typing my password correctly it was telling me the password was not correct. By closing NJ Star it allowed me to sign on using Windows EN input. With out trying to be political here, I would say in general yes people are very civil to each other in America depending on the area you live in. But corporations are not, (American health care is one example).

I'm sure its been talked about before, but what does everyone use for Chinese input? I've been using NJStar. Also, I've installed the chinese text language pack, but with out NJSTAR running, it seems that their are still problems viewing. For instance, I never got QQ to work properly.
