I haven't found anything for the Detroit Ann Arbor area. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Our experience for my Son's interview today contradicted much what I have read on this thread. He was given the blue paper because my 2009 & 2008 income tax returns were not included, though we were told before hand if last years salary showed sufficient income then those returns wouldn't be needed. My advice to those petitioning & potential benificiaries reading this would be to include ALL documents whether they're asked for or not. We're not sure yet but as it stands now it seems they want us to contact the IRS so that the IRS can send my documents to Guangzhou to get my Son's visa. I hope this isn't the case. We can only hope now it's only frustrating instead of very time consuming. Hope this helps someone

I'm not sure what to believe now. My wife told me that at least some parents were NOT allowed in the interview as their children entered the consulate. My corresponence to Guangzhou confirmed the same. I wrote to Guangzhou three or four days ago letting them know that my wife and I planned on attending, Guangzhou responded back by saying parents can't accompany their children for the interview. My son is 19 so maybe age has something to do with it, but from what I'm hearing, I doubt seriously if some one would be refused because the parents were no shows.

I intend on going to Guangzhou to for my Son's interview in August. My wife and I are familiar with what to expect & now on how to prepare for the interview since she attended hers last year. My question is, has anyone heard of a child being refused a visa, & if so, for what reason(s)? Thanks in advance for any response. Steve

My wife will be leaving & going back home to China. Not sure yet how long she will be gone as her family has a variety of issues back in Beijing. I've read on the USCIS web site that visits less than a year outside of the USA will require no re-entry permit. I suspect her return to China will last a couple months at most but want to be sure from others experience what she can expect before she leaves here. From what I'm reading on the USCIS web site is that a simple show of the green card is all that will be needed for visits shorter than one year. I'm finding this a little hard to believe and have a gut feeling there's a little more to this. If anyone one has any experiences they'd like to share, it would go a long way in helping give us a peace of mind. We would like to avoid making this look like an Apollo 13 re-entry if at all possible. Thanks in advance for any help.

I moved to the Dallas area just before she arrived thinking it would increase my job opportunities. My cousin was kind enough to let me stay here with him in Arlington. I passed this new address onto my wife before she departed Beijing so she could convey this address to immigration when she arrived at her POE. Complicating things even more, we were given the wrong address before I moved up here. (I was lucky no one tried to shoot me as I was trying to move into the wrong house....took me about five minutes before I realized something was not right). As far as the AR11 is concerned, we informed the folks from USCIS of our mistake but were told nothing could be done to change an address until Lao Po was here for at least 30 days. By this time I'm thinking her papers will have already been sent. She was told by immigration that no more than three weeks for her green card, four weeks for her SS card. It's been almost four weeks & we have nothing. This was my purpose for asking here on Candles. Thanks for your input dnoblett, but we're very much aware. I'd just feel a lot better when her papers get here.

Yep, we're aware. But they dont make it easy. We were told that we need to wait 30 days before we can change our address. Thanks for the input.

You're right, it wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for all the relocating. Also, the fact that no one will put her on my bank account or give her a job until she has a SS #. Thanks for your reply Kyle, every bit helps.

My wife arrived on July 10, 2010. Was told the Green card would arrive WITHIN three weeks with a 'welcoming packet'. The Social Security card should arrive within four weeks. No welcoming packet, no green card yet. My wife has heard on 001 that the Green card process is taking up to three months, which I find very difficult to believe. I've researched on the CBP web site under their FAQ but could find nothing. I've tried calling but the volume of calls wont allow me to get thru. Is anyone else out there having this problem? I'd really like hearing from anyone thathas arrived in the past few months how long it has taken them to receive their Green and Social Security cards.

We went there today. Almost an hour drive but worth every mile. We hit the motha load with this one. Everyone spoke Mandarin & had everything she was looking for including chicken heads & feet. We both felt as if we were back in Beijing. There are five other markets in the Dallas area we have yet to try, but the 99 Ranch Market will be tough to beat. Went to both of these yesterday. If anyone is interested, May Hao is a Vietnamese market - close, but not quite what she was looking for, & Hong Kong Market is really just a warehouse. We'll try going way up north to yankee land (Dallas) and give more intell then. Thanks again for your post

Adding to this Dallas list is 99 Ranch Market Spring Creek Crossing & US 75 opening this month. I guess it would be hoping for a little too much to have something on the south side of Dallas or Arlington?

My wife will be arriving from Beijing on July 10th. Beijing -Vancouver on Air Canada then Vancouver - Houston on Continental. Continetal threw me a little curve yesterday when they said my wife will pass USA customs in Vancouver, not Houston. Seems the point of entry will be Canada, I've never heard of this before. Continental told me that my wife's bags will be transferred from Air Canada to Continental automatically. When she leaves Beijing she wont see them again until she arrives in Houston. My question is, since the point of entry is now Vancover, how will customs check her bags? These bags apparently will not be in her possession. I want to make this as easy for her as I can with as little surprises to her as possible. Will USA customs process her after getting off the plane in Vancouver or before boarding the plane to Houston? Any RELIABLE thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appeciated! Steve

you sound like a good man michael who considers his wife very much. i would like to ask you a question if thats ok? since your wife has come here, is there anything she did not bring that you wish now she would have brought with her? my wife & i are now trying to figure what she needs to bring when she comes in the next few months. thank for sharing, steve

I'm writing this hoping it well help others who may be in a similar boat. On April 1st, the same day that we got our interview invitation, I lost my job. We admitted this to Guangzhou & resubmitted a new AOS. Guangzhou was nice enough to call my wife and gave some suggstions for us. The VO told my wife that my mutual funds & wife's assest most likely would not suffice. My wife just emailed me to tell me the interview lasted about one minute & received a pink. I'll try to give more details after her return home. It's not always an easy road but it'll sure be worth it in the end. Good luck to all you folks out there.
