  1. Another choice is to leave the "too small" field empty, print the form, then hand write in the address. I have been able to get some to fit this way if it was close.
  2. I ended up going just I-130/CR1 and never filed the I-129. It seems like I-129 is a waste of money because the total process time is very close between I-130 and I-129. Best of luck to you for a fast and easy processing time.
  3. Okay, you guys know. So I edited my I-864 for mom, removed our daughter, this changes the number of people sponsored on this form from 2 to 1 (of course). So then, on line 21 A I had to put 1 because that was the number sponsored on this petition. I dont claim her on 21C (wife) because it says not to count her twice. So total on wifes form will be 4 me, her, and 2 other children from previous marriage. However, on our daughters form, I will claim daughter on line 21a, my wife on 21C, 2 other dependents, and myself for a total of 5. It seems strange that I end up with 2 different numbers on the forms. Does that all make sense, and is consistent with what you all think?
  4. David, I believe you are usually right, but I will question this statement. Instructions for line 9 say: 9. Accompanying Family Members You are Sponsoring. The immigrant you are sponsoring may be bringing a spouse and/or children to the United States. If the spouse and/or children will be traveling with the immigrant, or within six months of the immigrant's entry to the United States and you are sponsoring them, you should list the names and other requested information on the lines provided. If any dependents are not immigrating, will be immigrating more than 6 months after the sponsored alien arrives in the United States, or you are not sponsoring them, do not list their names here. A separate Form I-864 will be required for them when they apply for their immigrant visas. Of course at the actual line 9 it says: I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above. Do not include any relative listed on a separate visa petition. I don't know, it seems like conflicting information.
  5. We had a similar problem. I added the pages, and signed them. On another form where we had this problem, I just hand wrote in the blank because I could make it fit if I hand wrote it.
  6. I filed the I-130 forms for my wife and daughter at the same time. They have progressed through the USCIS together, and have arrived at NVC. I am now preparing all the documents for the NVC which I will mail as they request them. The I-860 is a little confusing to me. Reading the instructions, it seems to imply I will only need to send 1 I-860 for both my wife and daughters applications. There is a section listing the other people you are sponsoring on the I-860 form, so it seems it would cover both petitions. Do any of you know? Should I send in an I-860 for each petition, or will the one for my wife cover them both? Thanks, Credzba
  7. My wife said the same thing. Her friends at work all asked her to get her husband to bring the american version dvd on my next visit. Truth is there will be cheaper copies of the american version available before I can get there I bet.
  8. Many children were sent away during Mao's cultural revolution. Some for their family history, others just because Mao taught that more could be learned from the peasants in the country than from the university. I know my wife went "away to school in the country" but I don't believe this is the same as a "sent down girl". My wife gave me a book to read while I was in China, named "Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China" by Jung Chang. It is a good story, and is the true life events of a woman, her mother, and her grandmother. This 3 generations span from before Japanese invasion until current times (more or less). In this the family is a hero of the party, and a disgrace to the party at different times. I believe this is a true and proper description of the times, and perhaps will give you an understanding of what went on. I guess your phrase "sent down woman" must mean one who's family is punished by the state? I think almost every child could claim this in one way or another, though I am sure the range of degree is very large. Best wishes for you. History can be bleak, but the future is always as bright as you wish to make it.
  9. I read many different views in this, and I can see each person view. I think it comes down to math, and yes what people are willing to pay. To the extent that a single, or very few "top" people in a company make outrageously more percentage of the profit than the actual workers, then it is exploitation, and seems to need correction. If you treat the problem by just saying "You must pay your employees more (whatever that more is) you ignore the fact that you can loose everyone job by driving the companies customers to another low cost provider. It seems that the measure of a company should be how the people at the top are paid in comparison to the people at the bottom. I am not saying equivalent pay, but a fair distribution of profits. I have NO problem with my boss telling me, I am sorry guys, no raises again this year, and we have to work more hours to get this out or our business will go elsewhere. He is telling me how we can all continue to get paid. I would have a BIG problem if he gave no raises, wanted us working outrageous hours, and his salary went up my a huge amount. So, it is not a matter of how much a person is paid, they all try to get the job that pays the most they can get (given some barriers to movement). What should be monitored, and outlawed is the dis-proportionate profit of owners/executives at the expense of workers. I think this is what everyone is saying, it is just some are so focused on a single piece of this discussion, they are missing the bigger picture. peace?
  10. We are CR/1 and she has filled out a ds-230 for me already. I dont know what EMS labels are, nor why I need them for DS-230. Can you please explain? I will be in China in December, and I can get the labels if I know what they are. Thanks! I am homesick too, but my home is in Suzhou.
  11. NVC/VSC voice message list. Found what I was looking for on vj. Perhaps a link to it in the faq would be nice. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...=91567&st=0 NVC Assigns a Case#: "...This case was entered in the NVC computer system on _______. 12. I read on Visa Journey that as soon as the phone system at VSC says they have mailed out the DS-3032 then you can email them your choice of preference. The problem is I don't know what the recorded message is that means they sent it out. I am hoping that someone who has gone through the VSC I-130 process will remember the voice prompts that signal the mailing out of each document. I am hoping "Beneficiary to receive notification" is the magic words that mean I can email them the choice of agent. Also I can mail them affidative of support payment.
  13. The VSC recording says "Please wait 6-8 weeks for "Beneficiary to receive notice". Does this mean they have mailed out the DS-3032 and affidative of support bill ?
  14. try using firefox instead of internet explorer. I could never get any chinese characters to go through internet explorer, but firefox works ... sometimes Maybe someone else can give you a good answer
  15. Received email today: Current Status: Approval notice sent. On October 23, 2007, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service. Good luck to everyone who is waiting.
  16. That sounds like a cps case just begging for trouble. I know it is innocent, but just let her say "oh I sleep with my Dad". I think thats a bad decision unless daughter is 4 or under.
  17. Why can't NYTIMES just tell his wife: "Honey I appreciate how you are helping your daughter adjust, but when I wake up at 12 or 1, I am SOOO sleepy thye next day. Can you think of any way to help me get more sleep so I can do well at work?" Perhaps his wife can come up with a better solution than any of us?
  18. I raised 3.5 children, and now have a new daughter. My children range in iq from very smart to not so smart. I find it difficult to believe that NONE of you real parents ever asked your child "Are you stupid or just don't care?". I'll admit it, I did, with every one of them at one time or another. Your self righteous attitude about the words a frustrated parent uses make me crazy. Give the guy a break, it is WAY frustrating to love someone, know they can do better than they are, and know that if they do poorly in school they will have a difficult adult life. Fourth grade isn't too early to want the best for our children. I told my kids (when i was calm) that learning is like trying to empty a swimming pool. If you study in 4th grade, then it is like emptying the pool with a cup, you can do it easily because you have 8 years to graduation. If you wait to start till 8th grade, you better have a bucket, and its a much heavier burden. By 10th grade, you better use a 50 gallon drum, and chances are you can't carry the load. Anyway, I am just frustrated. It isn't telling the kids they are stupid that is the point. Give the guy some advice (and I'll listen too) on how to motivate a child to do their best, and listen to your advice for their own future well being.
  19. I can only sympathize with you. It is sad to see someone you love throw their life away. I had this problem with my oldest children, and the did not listen, then they had to go to community college, and lost interest. Finally, after they worked at terrible minimum wage jobs for a while they decided they needed collage. My daughter is 25, and she has only 50 hours of college credit from community college, but she finally decided she needed a degree, and is now attending full time. She may yet get her degree, but it is in the most difficult way. In fourth grade, I don't know how you can show her what she will get. In China she would not make the middle school entrance exam, and would go to work somewhere. Back to your daughter, would it help if you did the home work with her? What if you only spoke english in the home, even to her?
  20. Secret tip to even FURTHER impress your lao po. If you use windex (or some window cleaner) instead of lysol, then then you can simply wipe it off the mirror, and the mirror is clean. The lysol makes a mess which must be cleaned up after the "death sentence" is served
  21. I ask my wife if we should pay this, and she said no. So, I never pay any money for my bride. However, now her parents are my parents in my mind. If they need anything I will pay for it, and be happy I could help. So, maybe I am on the easy payment plan. Instead of one amount up front I pay many times over the years? I tease, but the truth is I accept her family as my family. I will happily do anything for my new family. This includes giving them any money that will help them.
  22. I read all your words, and see all your pictures .. I repeat .. WHY I am I in america?!? I want to go home so bad
  23. I am terrible, I will admit. I love our home in Suzhou the best. Every time I got to China to visit my wife we travel on tourism. We visit old cities, and big cities. I know there are many many places yet to see. Always though, I love our Suzhou. It is not busy like Shanghai, but has a good number of people. It is larger than some of the "old" towns we visit, but a comfortable size for me. I will write down, and try to visit Guizhou and Yangshou, but I think I am Souzhou-ese in my heart. I tell you, in Suzhou you can visit the 1000 year old garden homes. In the same day you can travel to a business park. You can boat down an old river lined with ancient homes, then take a fast train into Shanghai for business or shopping. I can walk to the food market with farmers selling their goods, and then bike a short ways to the supermarket with any convenience I want. Suzhou has weather very much like Austin TX. but is more beautiful. I am a "home boy" I guess. My love is in Suzhou. My heart is in Suzhou. My life is in Suzhou. So why am I in America ?!?
  24. Check out kylin tv. I have not tried it yet, but one of my chinese friends uses it and likes it. It is a box that connects to the internet and to your tv. They stream television over the internet to your tv. My friend says his only costs 8.95 a month, but the web says "as low as 16.95 a month" so I don't know. http://www.kylintv.com/
