  1. I am heading to Shenzhen in early December to finally meet Jia I have to fly through Shanghai to get to Shenzhen and I have a few questions. 1. The airline changes from american airline to royal dutch in Shenzhen (operated by China Southern Air). Do I have to recheck my bag or does it automatically transfer? I am hoping it automatically transfers 2. Do they speak English on the chinese airlines? my planes to and from shenzhen are operated by China Southern Air and then like Eastern China Air. 3. Would I go through customs at Shanghai or Shenzhen? Also how long does that usually take? I went to Beijing a couple of years ago and I dont think I was asked any questions. I stood in line the guy looked at my passport and that was it I think. I cant remember very clearly though.
  2. I did write the word CHINA in English on her address. Also, I mailed it using Chinese format order and I did put the long zip code on. I did not think to put her phone number on it. Also, she said I didnt have to put tones on the pin yin for the address so I didnt. I just wrote her a hand written note. Part of it was just to do something nice and part of it was to test if my letter would get there and how long it would take. I will have her check with the post office next time I talk to her. Thanks for the help guys. I have a much better idea what to do next time
  3. I sent a letter to my girl pretty much exactly two months ago. I wrote her address in Pin Yin (except the word China) and was led to believe by some of my chinese friends that that would be ok. I also wrote my return address on the evenlope. So I am starting to get a little concerned that the letter wont arrive. I was thinking it would take about 1 month. Can anyone shed some light on this. maybe people who have mailed letters to China before. I followed the post office instructions and put 3 stamps on it (I think they were 41c stamps if I remember right).
  4. Thats exactly my least two favorite types of food I had in China lol. I thought they were gross but I am a picky eater. Maybe, we've been to different restaurants. I have been to both types that were subpar: Especially in tourist towns, like Hangzhou. You have to be willing to spend the big bucks in order to get quality in those cities. We have our favorite places in her hometown that are reasonably priced and ROCK! BTW: How do picky eaters from America survive in China? My friend that i visited had lived in Beijing for 3 years when I went to visit him and his girlfriend. They recommended the places. Picky Eaters dont survive lol. I could only eat about 50% of what was put in front of me. I lost 10lbs in the 2 weeks I was there. Thats the part about going back to China I am dreading the most.

  6. America: F*** YA! (I dont know the language rules on this forum.) Anyway, language warning on link. Song is funny though
  7. She used to be a news reporter on local CCTV. She said she had to work really hard and stay late and didnt like it so she quit. Now she is a personal assistant.
  8. UPDATE I talked with her again today about it and mentioned everything you guys told me. She said she didnt think she would lose face at all. She still said it was hard to explain but said she thinks she cares about my needs more than hers and she knows finding a job is very important for me. She thought that if I came to visit her without a safe and secure job I might be really stressed out. Anyone have any input on this?
  9. So I guess Sa Jiao is why my girl makes this cute little pouty face when she is unhappy or wants something I always just thought it was really cute haha.
  10. Thanks for the input guys. It really helps alot! She did mention that part of it was she was worried about the money it would cost me without a job. However, my mom passed away a couple of years ago and I inherited everything of hers so affording the trip is no problem for me. I tried to reassure her many times not to worry about the money for the visit but she brought it back up a few times. I graduated in May and I knew it would be tough to find a full time job. I have come very close a few times but no luck yet. I still have some good leads and I am still working a temporary job. I also do not want to rush into this at all. I do not plan on even asking her to marry me during the visit. I would be worried I would be caught up in the moment without going home after the visit and really thinking about how I felt about her in real life. We have been talking since early April and I was hoping to visit her in December. I guess if I dont have a job I am not going though. I didnt realize it would be a huge loss of face for her if i visited without a job.
  11. So me and my girl have talked about me visiting her. Well I just recently graduated with an MBA and dont have full time employment yet. I am working temporarily. She wants me to visit and I want to visit her. I told her if I find a job I may not get much vacation time right away. If I only get a week vacation that means I could only visit her for a few days. I thought if I dont find a job in the next couple of months I could visit her and spend like 1-2 weeks with her and without wasting any job vacation time. Well she doesnt seem to agree with this. She said that she wants me to find a job first so the situation is more stable and mature. I know have a job and stability is very important to Chinese women. Its important to me too. She thinks I will be a different person when I visit if I am currently working. I explained my point of view about vacation time and I didnt see why it mattered whether I had a job or not when I came to visit her. She had trouble explaining her reasoning in English though. She basically came down to its different culture and I should get this website or one of my chinese friends to explain her thoughts better. So maybe someone can give me some insight.
  12. according to that link if you earn 10k a year thats the poverty line? Minimum wage pays more than that a year. Its hard for me to believe that guy earns only that much money or has like 50 kids lol Thanks for the help guys btw.
  13. The girl I have been talking to says that one of her friends got her visa rejected because the man didnt meet the minimum income requirement? Does anyone know what the minimum income is? I just got my masters degree and currently only working temporarily while I look for a full time job. I just have no idea what income I will be making in the future when I do find a job. Also, I inherited some money and oil and gas royalties as passive income when my mom died. I assume showing these would help establish to them that you are financially secure correct? I mean they will accept proof of that money as helping your case right?
  14. Oklahoma my whole life except 2 years in Florida. I just moved back to Oklahoma this May and I am very glad to be home.
  15. Thats great you made it. Let us know more about what you like and dont like in the US. I am always curious to hear because I can tell my girl in China what other chinese ladies think when they get here.
  16. While I was there I noticed TONS of buicks and Fords.
