1. Yeah! She has been in school for 2 months now. It makes a really long day. She listens to too many of her chinese friends I think. I have applied for her to work and citizenship and am waiting to hear from the Gov. she wants me to take her to take the driving test of learners test and I am certain that the attorney said we needed to wait. Anyhow I got yelled at today and totally blew up. I want to find out exactly what I need to do so she can understand.
2. Hey there!!!!! Sorry that I have not been around much. Things have been really busy. How are things with you? quote name='yuan fen' date='Dec 6 2006, 07:48 PM' post='261937'] A Car? Hey, Bill.
3. I am really stupid. Can someone help?
4. jbray, I hate hearing that about your wife. I have been unfortunate to go through the same thing here in Georgia. The US is full of ignorant people who have lost touch with the true important things about life. In china they do have nationalism, so do we. My wife is Chinese so people assume she is greencard hunting. It is a shame they can assume that when they know nothing of her great life and great family in China.
5. We made it back from Guangzhou on Wednesday morning and since it has been go go go. I think Neely is struggling somewhat with the change. I tried American food one time and she did not like it but would not say so. Most of the Chinese restaurants were even worse. I bought the rice cooker, wok, and bamboo steamer but she is uncomfortable cooking for the most part. She is doing her best to please me but it is wearing on her. We have been to Chinatown on multiple occassions. I think more than anything she wants to be taught how to cook. I also need to learn how to prepare Chinese dishes and probably should have learned already. When you spend so little time together it is hard to anticipate everything.
6. Awesome! Congrats my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
7. Mike, We can do that if you like. If we have a time frame I will run the idea across the boss. I have no idea as far as plans that she has. I haven't seen many American's in Guangzhou. That would be nice! Bill
8. Actually, Bill, my fist visit to China was almost exactly one year ago. Last week in September and the first week in October. It's when I met the "Wheel Man", Paul who posted just before me. Sensibly, I had a lot of shorts with me. My second visit was the end of March into April. I met up with "pushbrk" Mike that time. My SO convinced me that I would need longer pants due to the "Cooler" weather, (she does not like short pants), so I brought all long jeans. Well, it rained half the time I was there, and the day I left the predicted high temp was 94 degrees. I know exactly what you mean about humidity. I have already told that for this trip, I will bring two pairs of long pants...1 blue jean-type, and some dress slacks for the "celebration" dinner with the family. The rest will all be SHORTS. When will she be coming to the States? Mike Mike, I leave on September 12 and get there on the 14th. We leave together to come back on the 19th. So she will be here on the 19th as of right now. She is going to hate the food here. We will try and hit chinatown here in Atlanta on the 20th or so. Good food is something that is really important to her I have noticed. This will be tough on her here in Atlanta.
9. "Like I said before, I'll be the tall, American-looking guy holding hands with a shorter Chinese woman" I can't believe this. We have so much in common. If you haven't been to Guangzhou in September you will be in for a real treat with the weather. Last year I went to the zoo. Two hours later we were begging cab drivers to drive me back to the hotel. I did not feel hot but my clothes were soaking wet with the humidity. It was quite embarrassing.
10. Thanks to everybody! I am overwhelmed by the support. Mike, Try Hydrocodone! I don't know what happened to me but worrying is just not worth it. The government can be very disorganized but ultimately you succeed in jumping through the necessary hoops. In a few weeks, I will be back to my normal stressful self.
11. She passed. She is very excited. I have been surprisingly calm. Especially since I have been without a cigarette for one week now. It was great to hear her voice say good news. Thanks for the support and I leave out on the 12th of September. Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12. The interview is going on as I type. I should be nervous but I think we have prepared as well as possible. I will post the result soon!
13. I wish I had seen this thread earlier. I can tell you are excited by this opportunity. I go along with the theory that if the cost of living is in the ballpark, it is a perfect time to make this move. Your SO is not here and no children to move. If this works for you, it gives you the flexibility to have greater control of your life later on. I have always had a goal to retire early and control my own destiny. The company seems to be trying extremely hard to impress you. I would do due diligence to make sure this company is lucrative as you think. It sounds as if you know that it already is. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. See what they say and then follow your heart.
14. This is great information. I think she is licensed but I will check! Thank you!
15. My daughter is studing to be a RN. 2 years of college and then nursing school for 2 years is my understanding. Since you are in Marrietta, I think you will have Kennesaw University there and my son graduated from Southern Poly Tech there. I beleive there is one more school there also. Did you mention before that she has college?, If so, you will be surprised what will transfer. But yes, English will be her biggest obstacle. It is nice to have such a good goals... not enough nurses, If she works hard, she will do well. 239764 New Day, I think she has college. It was some kind of weird school name. I hope that it will transfer here--or some of it at least. We will know soon enough!
16. She wants it all. I really cannot explain it to her. To become a RN, it will be like I woke up and had a kid in college all of a sudden. I don't see how she can do this and have kids at the same time. She was specific on Registered Nurse instead of Nurse. This will be an interesting conversation when we actually have it. I will find an expert to speak to her. I will be the only one needing a nurse---i can't afford a baby and school. 239649 Hey Bill! It is achievable. Just be by her side on her dreams. If she is as ambitious as you say she is, I know Jie is. Hey, coming up soon! Wish we were going to be in GUZ at the same time. That would be cool. You are on the right track. Me? I am thinking ahead also. 239693 Yuan Fen, I would be kind of cool if we were going at the same time. I will support her on this if she is committed to it. She also supplements her family now so I worry about how we live, send her to school, and help family. I one of those organized people who likes to plan. I will get over this and stop worrying in a couple of days. All of this will get worked out when she is here and understands all of our options. This could really help our family if she does this. I hate debt though.

18. Wow! She would be in school for 6 years before even going to nursing school. That is not what I was hoping to find. 239626 There are three year RN diploma programs and 4 year bachelor programs. You don't add them together. You choose one or the other. Perhaps some of her previous schooling can be credited. There are also Masters programs but that's above and beyond. 239630 pshbark, Yeah--i was just reading that. There is possibility of a tuition reimbursement program while working for a hospital. That might be too much for her. What is funny is that she wants kids soon too. I think we have many decisions to make.

20. I leave for China on September 12 so I have been really busy. Even though we have communicated for 1.5 years, it is only today that I realized that she is set on becoming a registered nurse. I am excited that she has such lofty goals and she is aware that English is her first obstacle. Does anyone know what schooling and a timeframe this will take? She has a similar position in China but I would bet that it does not translate for a job here. I don't think she is thinking of a acupuncture clinic. I know this will take significant resources to pull off but I will find a way. Anyone know of someone that can explain to me what will be required for her to accomplish this?
21. Cantonese women are sort of crazy about their weight. All of them are skinny. They called me "fei po" (fat woman). My ex is skinny and he is only 162cm in height. He fooled around those skinny women, which made me kick him out. I feel comfortable when standing by big westerners 237233 Eunice, Is that why there is a big buffalo standing behind you in your avatar?
22. The lady has a little son. That's why their case was kicked back to the US. The lady said "He loves me too much and he doesn't want to lose me so he didn't tell me his past. He was only touching the breasts of his daughter." Some women just have no common sense, no common knowledge. 235119 I reread the story again and I feel certain that this is a bad man. There are always two sides but under all circumstances she is much better in china or needs to find a way to leave. This girl feels obligation to her husband but I believe that love is a must. No way this girl feels love from your explanation. This is a sad story.
23. I worry about my adjustment too. Had she been here in March it would be a ton easier. I have so many vices this time of year of things that I like to do. She is going to need extra attention and support. I know this.
24. Wow! I lean towards her side of the story but I really don't know. I do not think there is enough information to tell for sure.
25. I got it under control now. Let's just see if she forgives me in the next email. Today I learned of two new American-Chinese couples in the area. My worrying about this is done---it will happen as it happens when she gets here. In all honesty, I am very proud of what all I have done to make this happen. I have made some Chinese friends, although I have yet to meet some of them. I know where Chinatown is. I withstood the mockery of tons of old friends, learned a little Chinese, and studied tons of culture. I am a prototypical bachelor and was happy that way. I think I am ready and hope I can keep some of my hobbies. This has been a long long journey.
