  1. If it's going to the POST OFFICE for pickup, then NO. It's easy to call the post office just be prepared for lots of menus and wait time but we called next day a couple times and first thing second morning it was ready. It was a walk from the apartment we stay about 10 minutes I was completely lost but she found it. A very nice po. And the visa handout lady has her own little office and very polite
  2. Congratulations our visa was ready for pick up on day 2 at 8 am when she called. My bad luck to get sick last couple days I wanted to do something here but time together is nice too
  3. We are "PINK" I posted in the results forum if you want my report. I am posting from my iPhone I brought my router it is nice to have wifi in the room I made myself good luck to all the august folks left!!!!!
  4. Ok So I woke up about 4 AM and apparently that was enough sleep. We got up about 5:30 and got ready and headed the 2 minute walk to the front of the consulate and waited in line as a few hundred people milled around. We had 7:15 appointment so we were told to line up on the left most part of the line. About 7:45 they started letting people in the consulate entrance and we got in the building by 8:00 am We took the escalators up to the 4th floor and made sure everything was in order and I sent Juan off with a large rolling suitcase full of our chats logs and our heavy wedding picture album as well aqs her carrying bag with most the organized stuff. We really did a lot of documents from letters from families to all the usual pictures, receipts, documents what not anything we could think to put in there Juan is a school teacher and quite organized. I am a poor slob. I stayed on the 4th floor and went to the coffee shop for a delicious 49 Yuan cup of nestles coofee drink no refills but they did include crackers and some sesame seeds. Seemed that her interview was one of the last ones of the morning session, as she did not come down the escalator until after 11:00 Am I forget the exact time. She said all the process was pretty easy, the screener took my updated 2008 tax form and the medical and that was it I think. She sat and waited a long time, listened to what was going on at the windows and decided to go to the WC and wouldn't you know when she was in there she heard her number called. She hurried out to the window and had tall American man with glasses. Questions were exactly as expected, When did we first start chatting, how do we communicate, when did we get married how long did we know each other before we married (8 months) Juan offered to show chat records and CO said sure then realized I had printed maybe 5000 pages shrunk down to 4 pages per page double sided, and asked to see some samples of MSN chat and then Juan took some out of the binders and put them under glass, and CO just kind of fanned the pile and didnt read any just like wow ok no problem here. Then CO asked to see pictures and Juan put 4 small flexible photo albums I bought at wallymart under glass and CO looked didn't ask any questions just kind of looked and stopped a long time on Juan's child hood picture. Then Juan was still kind of spreading out all our heavily prepared materials in case and CO basically waved her off saying congratulations you have passed. She said thanks or whatever and he gave her a sheet that isn't really pink anymore, more orange-y. She actuallly was a little confused about the passport pictures she wasn't asked to submit any more, but actually in the medical packet there were like 6 pictures so no problem. They said the visa should be ready on Wednesday at post office. he did ask where I worked and Juan said Ohio State University but also gave my business card. The interview was only a few minutes and she chose English because she understood this guy easily ande apparently he understood her easily too. If you read these forums it is literally no surprises and it proceeds exactly as you would predict, and practicing hundreds of confusing questions seems like a hard choice to make I knew the core questions and materials to prepare and we really did not cram so much that we were worried, we just prepared well and fely nervous but confdident. I did not frontload my application, my lawyer only put the exact minimum requested, and we were well ready for any document to prove our relationship but did not use 90% of them. Pictures seem to be the real key to this process in the 5 minutes you have to decide your life here at the windows. We are struggling right now with the weight of this happy and overwhelming moment, trying to decide how to proceed with POE and when to go. We will discuss and be united forever soon Anyone want to know anything let me know I should be able to post. ANyone can succeed at their visa, if you follow the path of those ahead of you and be diligent in your details. There was a guy who was denied because he is a lawyer and should know what is what but forgot to bring his resume comeon give me a break that was just careless. Thanks to all here and good luck ! Dan
  5. Very helpful report! Thanks Mike. I think we are well ready to go I hope questions are straightforwad I'm not sure if preparing all these fringe questions help but we looked at many versions of questions and I like obvious ones Yan got!!!
  6. Wow Mike again great news to hear we are minus 2 days. Hanging out in Guangzhou time does move quickly at surreal experience. Get the details on her experience man i need the recon!! Congratulations and best wishes on your new life!
  7. Ok i am not sure of my posting possibilities, I am leaving in the morning and I probably wont sleep. I am not ready at all because I told my wife to pack things for me to take back to USA so i figured with it being in the upper 90's F in GZ I should be Ok with a few shorts and t-shirts and this blanking ton of papers I am bring OMG I knew it would be some weight but its really heavy and it takes up all the room in my suitcase. Luckily I printed out stuff I have saved on computer when we get our pink Im gonna ditch a lot of the paper load I can print it later if I need it. My wife flew into GZ as i write this havent heard anything since she was taking off, but her medical is Monday Morning, which I guess is a busy day to do it, but she has time, then i will stay overnight in hong kong and train it is Tuesday afternoon. Then la la la Our one year anniversary together on Tuesday yay
  8. and if gods attention isn't with us, then watch out GUZ! Tomorrow or next day Okie2 will let us know their mood, in 2 weeks me, then Dan & Juan. After a long dry spell of CR1 interviews, you will have good information. I think what sucks is no longer anything to do, or write or interact about.....just wait and not snap out!! Getting off work was easy for me, making travel arrangements was easy (if not cheap) Juan will make the GUZ arrangements for her air and our staying there, so now leaves preparation here now, I have been practicing questions, and got letters from our mothers, had her work on a lot of fringe documents and translations, even if we dont use for interview is helpful for her adjustment here, I found a new place to live and spent the day Tuesday starting to move stuff to my storage for staging to move when I get back. I still have to print out so much, I am going to use my days off this week to print out a lot of stuff, and print pictures there always seems to be something else to do.
  9. All these posts are great help. I like to see a cross section of what people do, it is advice and I know how I will do mine now. Thank you all to help me decide with every angle and opinion this is why CFL is a great sight, there are real people with real opinions and experience and I am grateful to draw off these
  10. can you share what made your package complimented, and the content olf your letter? I really see some mixed ideas here as writing a long narative gives ammunition to quiz the ben. and too long makes too much time for a busy officer. i see a lot of successful applicants put very helpful info , and i thank you, but i would like specifics if yours was better than average i woyld like any edge! thanks
  11. Excellent and very helpful story and account, congratulations not only on the visa, but on the successful way you got it. My wife does not like to rely on strangers for something so personal, but I try to convince her that someone CAN be trusted to help or just be there in case.
  12. YES congrats! We have a monday interview. hope these guys aren't sick that day
  13. we have briefly discussed this but not until we have visa in our sweaty hands will we for sure make plans. I suggested that this trip is not good idea for her to come back with me, as GZ is not her home and I have to get back to work and find a new place to live and she should have a proper time to get her affairs in order back home and spend time with the family. i told her that I am coming with little clothes even for 2 weeks and I want to take a bunch of her stuff back with me, then if I can come back when she will come back with me when we are not so rushed. But if we decide to come back thats great I just booked Columbus to Newark to Hong Kong and return on flychina.com for $1075 all included fees. I will take the train from HK to GZ unless I end up on the wrong train
  14. Congrats. I know what you're going through, I felt like a little kid saying "oh my gawd . . .oh my gawd" shaking .....my cool at the consulate. Here is the bad news ...... clean yer crib. DON'T be a weenie! Imagine the look on her face if she lays eyes on the sty you've been sleeping in!! And don't forget the POE There is a really good thread of a check list to do before POE...but that is all I can remember. Other than the cleaning part, which I repeat... start now, more than once and then repeat.. yea I am looking for a new place to live. I live in what can be called animal house or oscar madison style of living. now i am like uh oh i thought i would move end of August but now maybe I will just put most the loose stuff in the storage place and have her help choose the next place to live. i was bubbling for 3 hours thsi afternooon then 7:00 EDt came and I was like i can call her now I don't care I can't wait anymore. So I got this invitation to google voice yesterday and signed up for it and I'm not sure what other cool things it can do but I was able to tie in a call to my work phone, and then call her china mobile number and we talked for 25 minutes for :$.50 no connection fee no nothing just 2 cents a minute how cool is this!
  15. I called DOS this afternoon, bad choice it was busy then on hold a long time, but P4 mailed out today interview date of AUGUST 17 Monday 7:15 AM OMG I am freaking out I felt like I was ready for the news now have to think a lot wooooaaaaaa yea But um now I am feeling a big sense of what to do first and next etc.
  16. I need time to plan this is horrible my boss at work is driving me nuts how can I know when to plan to take time off arghhhhhh I called again today no date My wife Juan is very disappointed she is checking the mail at her school where she teaches all the time, and i was really hoping to have interview during her holiday
  17. You and Dan are interesting. I haven't heard much from Dan, of course he's waiting. Like you and me.... It seems that DOS has confirmed his arrival. You have to be next! I just found a guy on this site who has the same NVC out day as me. Shadowman, But I can't PM him for some strange reason Mike Yea I'm still lurking until I get the update. DOS swears my file is received and being processed at time of my last call. No interview date active according to her computer screen. Call back next week blah blah bvlah yada yada
  18. Yeah I experienced long delay in Beijing but as I was flying over siberia and the north pole I figured better safe than sorry it looked cold below Capital airport has nice restrooms at least good luck!
  19. Great news! I am happy to hear this! We are still waiting for date and now I have no idea how long to wait. I don't mind waiting if only I had a date! I hope you have a quick and painless interview process and i also hope there are good news for the rest of us soon
  20. Thats what happened for us. GUZ finally picked up the packet from NVC and mailed out a date for the interview to my wife. Hello Dave, When did they pick up the package? joe That's the question of the day. The package sits in warehouse until they get to it in the many packages they clear through customs. They say it takes 3-4 months, We hope for 2 months. Then time for them to scan it in and process. There are mant threads about this if you want to look around
  21. CONGRATULATIONS Pink is soooo nice to see
  22. She has mentioned more then once that many of the women she talks to from 001 have quit their jobs and that the man will send them money. I think she's just hinting but knows that I need to save for the trips, hotels, fees and yadda yadda yadda, she knows I'm not rich. This is a big elephant in the room for us. She has a lot of money in an account in China that she won't bring over (most from me) and we will have a big fight about this but will work out when we realize how we will live (I am not rich ha I'm not ever gonna be rich)
  23. I wanted simple rings because this is my first marriage and im not fooling around. She wanted me to wear a ring so every other woman out there would know to stay away I think it is important for therelationship if you want rings, and you would be wearing it anyway i hope
