  1. Thanks, Tony. I hoped that was the case..................one Guv department to mail the new ones and another to mail the old ones.............typical
  2. I recently submitted a DS-82 passport renewal form along with my almost expired passport and the $75.00 fee to the State Dept by mail. I was under the impression that the Guv would send my old passport back to me, but.................they didn't. How come? anyone know? Obviously, I'd like to have the old one back for sentimental reasons. also.......if someone were going through the immigration process at the time, I'm sure they might like to have the old one for their spouse/fiance to present to the IO at interview time.
  3. I notice that you didn't install the back splash panel and the side panels either. If I remember correctly the instructions said it needed to be installed 20 or 22 inches above the stove. This unit also has a front glass panel (not shown) that folds out to catch the smoke from the front. other than that, how does it work? Installation Instructions say to mount 28"-32" above cooking surface. This one is 30". The Glass Panel, when down, as shown, hits me in the forehead as I lean forward to set stove controls. Lao po has no problem with this though. URKidding.........I initially installed the backsplash on the sheetrock, but after Lao Po had the granite backsplash installed, which is 1" thick, the original backsplash and accompanying sides could not be reinstalled. I was going to modify and shift the entire unit forward to accommodate this, but Lao Po likes it the way it looks now..... I won't argue. It works great.........All smoke and vapors, even from the front burners are immediately and with impressive velocity, sucked up and out even on the "low" fan speed. The fans are powerful, but will not suck a bowling ball off the surface. Titleists will hover, however. The unit is not any louder than the recirculating microwave/hood combo which was replaced. Front Glass:
  4. Pacair up and running great. Little Lao Po thought a little Granite would look nice while we were at it! Before: During: After:
  5. Congratulations!! Yes, Mr. Yang is great
  6. We use italkbb. Like others have said....$24.99 per month for unlimited local and long distance calls domestically and internationally...PLUS... a local number in China for friends and family to call Lily directly.......and they wear it out!! for TV........I have Dish Network with the "Great Wall Package" $29.99 per mo extra.............I think around 16 or 17 channels from China.
  7. Work order has been issued. My apprentices are eager to begin work.
  8. Ordered the Pacair last week. Stainless steel European design. Almost $600 w/shipping. Will install myself when it arrives. Always been a big fan of venting outside. I Specified outside venting in some earlier homes I bought. This house had the microwave/inside exhaust already installed. Updates later.
  9. Our 14 year old son, James, has been here 15 months today. On March 7, 2007, he was crying in broken english as we left his village and headed to the border crossing en route to Knoxville. As of today he has earned a 4.0 average his freshman year in High School, grown taller by 6 inches, joined and excelled in the Farragut Optimist basketball league, and made many friends in the neighborhood and at school. He'll be travelling back to Shenzhen on his own (He'll be 15 then)next month for a 3 week visit with family and friends. He told me he'll be happy when the visit's finished and he can get back "Home"......amazing transition!! Today he starts his first job: ...Lily and I are very proud of him!
  10. 3 days for us and everyone I met who received pink on that particular day. belated Congratulations!!
  11. Not that we're there yet, but just wondering.........After she receives the "10 year GC". What happens after this 10 year period, assuming she hasn't become a naturalized US Citizen?
  12. Crossing back into the USA from Canada: We crossed back at Port Huron Michigan last Sunday morning: USA border officer asked for my Passport and their GC's He asked what country they were citizens of. He asked me to open trunk. "Have a nice day" Shenzhen girl's first time in snow. (No accumulations in Knoxville this winter) .....Toronto Canada March 22, 2008
  13. Follow up: 8 hours after leaving Knoxville we enterred Canada at Detroit. We presented my passport and Lily and James' GC to Canadian border official. "where are you from?............what is your destination? .........How long are you staying?.......... Firearms, alcohol, tobacco?.....have a nice day." In Detroit, I-75 is closed at the Canadian Bridge crossing, and they re-route you thru some city roads to the bridge entrance. It's a mess, and confusing, but not too crowded.
  14. Thanks, guys............I forgot to mention that we will be driving,.
  15. I'm sure this has been asked before, but we decided on the spur of the moment to visit friends in Toronto over the long weekend, and I need a quick answer. Will Lily and our son have any trouble entering Canada or re-entering the U.S. with their Green Cards and chinese passports? Thanks
  16. 3 Hours to Biometrics x 2 (EAD and AOS) Knoxville to Nashville 7 hours to AOS interview - Knoxville to Memphis
  17. Just a precaution: I took Lily to the TN driver's license office to exchange her "Certificate for Driving" for a real driver's license now that she has her 2 year Green Card. Maybe it was due to my lack of research, but I thought they would issue the License with her married name since the Green card reflects this. .... NOT!!! We had to run back home and get our notarized translated copy of our chinese marriage certificate in order to get the TN driver's license with the same name that is on her Green Card. Sillly me, I should have taken the Kitchen Sink to GUZ Tennessee Department of Safety. Wow! Thanks for steering me to this link, Dan. I didn't know any of this concerning the TN Certificate for Driving. I assumed Lily would take her green card in, when she gets it, and exchange the Certificate for Driving for a real Driver's License. I read all 6 pages of this thread. Is it your interpretation that on Oct. 1, 2007 it will be a moot point? thanks, Hank
  18. Congratulations!! 3 days after interview to China Post for us.
