Ying was, as expected "afraid of", but she is very proud now. She is jealous that he writes me three letters to her one. It was pretty rough in the beginning, but as time goes on she has accepted the "concept" if not the reality of John's independence. In fact, that was a strong influence on John in the first place: join the Marines and get the hell away from an over-protective mom. Among other things. I think that she has grown used to the idea now. My pride and defense of John and his actions and decisions are having the desired results. Kudos to you Steve...

  4. The correct answer would be the wife... You can always make more babies....
  5. When my wife and son visited this Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo last year and she reported to me that on the bus the driver would offer to sell either beef or chicken to feed the tigers. Of course, they would starve the tigers on purpose so that they would come to the bus and eat from the tourists. My wife (out of 20 some odd people on the bus) was the only person that offered to buy meat for the tigers. After buying the meat and getting a shot at feeding the tigers¡everyone would rush up front to take pictures, but no one else offered to buy any meat. She reported that they were all out of beef but would sell you the whole chicken at beef prices¡what a rip and the poor tigers were starving back then according to my wife. http://i44.tinypic.com/23sgqd0.jpg Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo http://i44.tinypic.com/2rp9zj9.jpg Wife and son feeding these exact same tigers¡ http://i41.tinypic.com/72eyp1.jpg Which are probably dead now¡how sad!

  7. This makes a lot of sense se to me and the same would apply if you had a child by Cesarean birth too!
  8. I sent my wife back to China during the pre-birth period because she was getting sick a lot and needed special care. I for one did not know how to make the special soups (fish) and other herbs that made her feel better. She continued to stay with her parents up until the 6th or 7th month and came back here for the birth knowing the difference between Chinese health care and American health care. After our child¡¯s birth, my wife stayed in the house for at least a month. This is tradition. Period! Afterwards, she was outside proudly showing off her new baby to everyone like a peacock in full bloom. I manage to take off a week after the birth to help accommodate her but in her eyes, doing it by herself was one to the hardest things to do. I wish her mother or sister could have come here to help, but that¡¯s another story in itself. We managed to do it by ourselves and look back at it and wonder how we ever did it. Of course it made the relationship much stronger too! As far as traditions go, I would never change my wife or have her change her traditions. She is who she is and that¡¯s Chinese.
  9. Why not do the opposite! Download and fill out all of your forms. Take them to an attorney who specializes in immigration and have them double check your work (make sure that you dotted the I¡¯s and crossed your T¡¯s) and pay them for a half an hour¡¯s fee or an hour, depending on how complicated your file is. Most immigration attorneys will agree to this especially if it¡¯s easy money for them. Keep in mind that normally a lawyer will have their legal assistants fill out the forms and then they review them based on the information a client provides. So the most that you will have to pay could be between $200-$400. Money well spent and at the same time saving you the hassles of a form being sent back because you inadvertently forgot to put something on your form.

  11. Not to confuse anyone but there are several versions on the Windows 7 out there. The main one that most IT professionals have been using for the last 6 months in the Windows 7 Professional which is much better from their performance stand point. It is also much better when it comes to networking and tying into a Windows server, especially when working with active directories. Below are the versions available ¨C Complete, OEM, and Upgrades: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional - Upgrade package - 1 PC - DVD - 32/64-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Upgrade package - 1 PC - DVD - 32/64-bit Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate - Upgrade package - 1 PC - DVD - 32/64-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Professional - Complete package - 1 PC - DVD - 32/64-bit Microsoft Windows 7 Professional - License and media - 1 PC - OEM - DVD - 32-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate - Complete package - 1 PC - DVD - 32/64-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Professional - Product upgrade license - 1 PC - upgrade from Home Premium - WAU - 32/64-bit Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - License and media - 1 PC - OEM - DVD - 32-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate - License and media - 1 PC - OEM - DVD - 64-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Complete package - 1 PC - DVD - 32/64-bit ¨C English Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - License and media - 1 PC - OEM - DVD - 64-bit - English

  13. I'm in Automotive too and long for the days when we were busy. Some days I just stand around doing nothing. As a technician, I do not get paid if I am not working on a car and people just do not have money to fix them now. Being in the IT industry, I call on Doctor's offices to heal their puters and I hear the same thing about their patients....people who have been layed off have no insurance to fix themselves anymore... but on the brighter side of things... I do see the economy picking up here in the south or people are spending money now in hopes that when it does get busy again they will be ready.
  14. It was just a matter of time (Timing)... http://i47.tinypic.com/311uhbd.jpg They have already done it and are putting the feelers out too! Chinese Automakers - FAKE HUMMERS!
  15. This one has legs of its own - i would have to call it flat-out BS based on my own experience. Be VERY careful about trying to toss your "influence" around. 2 months living there...? you have a lot to learn! Our grandchild has been here for 2 months - my wife more like 45 years - her thinking is nowhere near along those lines. Relating my own experience - you don't need to agree. This topic has nothing to do with your kid or wife. You left out the original post that I had replied to. The OP was asking Pros/Cons of wife becoming USC. I was replying to who you know in China (either government or economic position) and yes, based on your experiences you don¡¯t know. Based on my wife¡¯s experiences and who she knows, she can still purchase property and have the some of the same benefits of a Chinese citizen¡since she has become a USC.

  17. Ours was 2 weeks later and they had it in a school stadium with about a 1000 people being sworn in at the same time. Usually they have some political person or the dean of some savy school there to say some smart words and make ya feel better.
  18. I know there's a vibrator in there somewhere... so...what happens when you get a leak?
  19. In China... its not on what you can own... its who you know. Like in the US... Money talks, bs walks...
  20. Given the current economic climate here, we're more likely to have one then they are... http://i25.tinypic.com/2ezqt08.jpg

  24. We sent all of that BS with my mother-in-law before... and she was hoping that it would be easy. Too easy, in fact that asked for other documentation, like how much $ do you have in the bank and where is the income coming from, etc, ect. - DENIED. We sent her back the next month, got another VO and VISA GRANTED! Go figure! Maybe the guy was pissed off that day. Others seem to believe that the decsion is made even before they step into the office. (editor's Note) My wife has been here over 10 years and her mother has been her 3 times already. The first time was the time that her VISA was denied. Her brother has been here over 10 times and has a kid going to college in an school in New Jersey. He owns several companies and has never been denied. We think its because he has to return to China sooner or later...
