  2. Hey Bob, Congrats to you and Xixi from Xianxiu and me. Gary
  3. Questions about why we need to see a Civil Surgen. When my wife had her physical in GUZ, they gave her three shots, and told her she could come back later or wait to she arrived in the US to complete the remaining shots she needed. She chose to get them in the US. Looking at her yellow book she got TD, Varicella and Influenza shots, the page for yellow fever is blank. Looking a the sheet they sent along with her medical exam Appendex C. shows a list of vaccines checked off showing dose #1, and dose 2,3, are not checked. I am assuming this is also just showing the vaccines she got at GUZ. There are two vaccines on this sheet that are not checked off. Hepatitis B and MMR Measles, mumps rubella. So my first question is what are the remaing shots does she need to get, are they just dose #2 of the shots she got in GUZ? Does a Civil Surgen need to give these shots, or can my family doctor give them? If my family doctor can give her these shots what is the Civil Surgen needed for? Thanks, Gary
  4. My wife just got her first bad lesson on tipping. Two nights ago I took her to a Chinese buffet, it's the only place around here that has close to real chinese cooking. It is a relatively inexpensive place to eat. Our bill came to 26.01, I only had $20. bills so I gave the my wife $40 to hold while I checked for some change, as I was checking the watress came and my wife gave the $40. to her and told the waitress thank you and said some thing to her in Chinese and the girl left with the money. I asked what did you say to the waitress. My wife said she told the girl the food was good and that we leave now. I asked her if she knew she just give the waitress a $14 tip for a 26 dollar meal? My wife said I give her no tip. I told my wife yes when you handed her the money and told her we were leaving, the waitress assumed the remainder was her tip. My wife got furious and said I go get money back. I told her no you can not give a waitress tip then try to take it back. Just as I finished telling her this back came the waitress, my wife said see she bring the money. I said yes she bring something, but not the money. The waitress handed my wife 2 fortune cookies and left, my wife looked at the cookies, looked at the waitress walking away then looked at me. I almost fell over laughing. I told her enjoy them they just cost you $7. each. I wasn't happy about the loss of the $14, but the look on my wife's face was worth it. All the way home all she would say is "I sorry very sorry" "I sorry very sorry"
  5. Did you check to see if they sent it to the address she listed on all her forms for your K-1 or to the condo she is staying at now?
  6. Well I did notice the mop has mysteriously has moved from the basement to the corner of the kitchen. Do you think that means something?
  7. We live in Springfield. We kind of also know Scott and Hong from Waterbury, Ct.. Scott and I mostly thru emails, but our ladies know each other.
  8. Yes we checked the box asking them to issue her an SSN, I got a form letter from them that states she will receive one within 3 weeks of her arrival in the US, however others on CFL said it never works, guess we will see if we get an SS card in the mail or not. It took her a few days to adjust to the jet lag also. But seems to have overcome that now. Only had one small problem after we returned home from two days of staying in a hotel in NYC. She wanted to take a shower, so I showed her how the shower operated, showed her where the shampoo was and the soap. She didn't like the smell of the bar soap (Coast) so she grabbed what she thought was liquid soap and used that with out telling me until later when she complained about being itchy. What she thought was liquid soap Unfortunately was an oranged scented counter cleaner because she said it had a very good smell . Though I was very concerned about it causing a rash or something, I could not help but laugh. Luckly I made her go take another shower with the Coast even though she did not like the scent, to remove the counter cleaner and the itch has stopped. LMAO........ Fen did not like the soap I had, so when I took her shopping she opened and smelled every single bottle of liquid soap they had. Guess which one she chose? The one that smelled like orange. Well she did not like that one either Yesterday we made our first run to a Chinese supermarket in Flushing, NY and she found a soap that she likes and has used in China. Yeah that's where we spent most of our time in Flushing Chinatown. I told her to get what ever she needed or wanted, but mainly she picked up fruits and veggies and a little Chinese junk food. Kind of glad she didn't head over to the fish tanks, with no cooler it could have become a ripe three hour dirve back to Massachusetts. Had a bad experience with 5 live frogs from the market across from the library escaping in my trunk.

  10. My wife arrived Friday March 5th. We filed a CR-1 Now the question is what's the next step in this process with immigrations? What forms do we need to begin now? What forms do we process later? She has one more shot to get which the medical clinic told her to get after she arrived. So if any one can point us in the right direction as where to find the information on where we proceed from here that would be great. Thank You, Gary
  11. Good luck, hope you get the 5 hour wait to see the V.O. and the 5 minute interview with congratulations you can pick up your visa in three days version, it's a wonderful feeling. Best of luck to you both.
  12. Congrats. Robert, It's a great feeling isn't it. Xianxiu arrives Friday at 1:30pm at JFK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gary
  13. Just call you city or town hall and ask the city or town clerk if an SSN is needed.
  14. I brought back about 15 of my wife's DVDs with no issues, just put them in my checked baggage.
  15. yes, I put my wife's phone number on the address lable, the China post just called and told her to come pick up her package.
  16. The only thing the post office asked me was it hazzardous or fragile. I said no, it just some letters, gifts baby clothes for my new nephew, English language CDs and those type of things. That's all I said because that was all I could fit in the little box they give you to write in. They never asked if there was any thing else. Kinda like Don't ask Don't tell" They asked if I wanted it insured and say yes for $30 and that was it.
  17. Yes, I see you sent it Fedex. This watch is worth $186. How much duty tax do you think it will be? The one I sent was under $100 and I declared the value as $25. She had to pay a duty of 150RMB but that was becoz of the cell phone; not sure if part of that was for the watch. Thanks Sam......I will alert the receiving party about the duty tax potential. They just asked if any thing inside was hazzardous or fragile, I said no, just personal letters, baby clothes, english language cd which was all I could fit in the little space they give you to write in. Never asked if there was any thing else. So kinda like "Don't ask Don't tell" they only asked if I wanted it insured. I think I told them for $30 dollars.
  18. I think if you insure like the above list sates you should have no problem. I just labled it gifts and letters, and also included Chinese currency. I had no use for the currency here and felt it would cost me more to convert it to US dollars, so I sent it back to my wife. She got it with no problems, and it didn't look like it was ever opened to check what was in the package. I just told the post office I was sending it to China asked to have it insured and sent it.
  19. Sorry to hear about the Blue. As others have said it sounds like an easy overcome. If you think your parent's income information was the issue they can call the IRS and request the transcripts for whatever years you need they would receive them in about 10 days and could scan them and email them to you since you are going to be in China until the 19th. Again that is if that's all GUZ wants. I would still go to ACH and try to get some answers from them. Don't forget you are dealing with HIGHLY TRAINED WELL EDUCATED MONKEYS who never make mistakes, nor admit to it when they do. We got whited on our K-1, they took all the info and looked at it then gave it back to her along with the blue requisting more info, which we sent then a month later we got the white. I went back to China we got married and filed the CR-1. We had the same info as the K-1 plus the additional photos, receipts, and such since our first interview, and they never asked to see anything. My wife tried to give the VO the folder and the VO said I don't need to see it. Asked her three stupid questions and gave her a pink. Question 1 whats your husband's name. Question 2 how old is her daughter. My wife told them my name, told them the age of her daughter. Question 3 what will you do in America, answer first year learn English second year learn to drive a car. VO Congratulations you will be issued a visa. My wife's reaction Good Luck, hope the blue quickly turns to pink for both of you. Gary
  20. I've used USChinaTrip the last three times. They have always been good, and inexpensive. Round trip the last time I went JFK to Shanghai to Chongqing was less than $900. on China Eastern. No long layovers, and like you said they tired to save you some money by offering a different flight.
  21. Congrats to both of you.
  22. I am having doubts that my wife will have her SS by April 15th...Should I apply for an IRS filling extension? Have you applied for an ITIN number for her? you can use that if you haven't already applied for a SSN for her.
  23. I asked this question some time ago. On the DS230 it asks if you wish to have a SSN assigned to you. The few replies I got from people here said they did this but never received a Social Security Card. I just spoke with a woman at Social Security and she said yes that the Social Security Office does issue a card if you have indicated on the DS 230 you wish one. She said at the POE they look at the DS 230 and if they see you are requesting one that they will issue you a receipt for this. she said It does take about 6 weeks to receive the Social Security card from the Social Security Administration. Has anyone actually got their spouse her/his SSN going this route? Thanks, Gary
