  1. Yes - except for that one time, it always has been for me (the Canadian officials gave me a hard time in retaliation for what the Americans were doing at the time - they (the Canadians) did let all the tourists through)
  2. Would µÈÀë×ÓÌå (d¨§ng l¨ª zi ti) work? or µÈÀë×ÓÇø (d¨§ng l¨ª zi qu)? or LCD?? The first 2 suggestions are translations of the (physics) scientific word plasma - they may or may not have adopted that as the commercial name for the TV. If you still get blank looks, try LCD, or Dennis' suggestion.
  3. Yes. and Maybe. Will they single you out for a baggage check? I was pulled out of a line once and held in a room for half an hour while the customs official read (and asked questions) about a business document I had (this was actually going to Canada). There is no predicting when they will do this, search your luggage, or whatever.
  4. Be careful! If she overstays her 6 month visa BEFORE the K-3 is approved, that can be cause for rejecting the K-3. The I-485 application says to make an InfoPass appointment to determine if you are eligible for an available visa number. But the way I read the I-485 application is that the K-3 must already be approved. This is where (reliable) legal advice might come in handy.
  5. A new visa (such as a K-3) will require longer than the 6 months. A fiance (K-1) visa is usually quicker (NOT quicker than 6 months - quicker than a K-3), although you can apply for a K-1 after you get the receipt for the K-3. I think Tony's right - that she will go back, and you need legal advice, but reliable advice for your situation might be hard to find. My suggestion is to count on her returning after the visa expires, and file for a K-1 (DON'T get married) as soon as you can (you may have to wait until after she leaves) AND . . . read up here on what other people have been through, both with the visa process and lawyers. .
  6. Welcome her to the USA for us! Congratulations!
  7. There willl usually be PLENTY of Chinese people on the flight to the U.S. (including stewardesses). Language is not a problem there. I will meet my SO upon her arrival in the US at LAX - saves a day that way (I'm in the same vacation situation).??To enter your timeline, click on "My Controls" on the front page and "Enter Signature".
  8. The track-by-reference ID is "I-730". Enter this on the DHL track-by-reference page (accessed from the 'track' menu at the top of the screen). You will get a list of all packages sent from NVC to the GUZ (also other countries) around that date. The "I-730" and date are all you need to enter.

  11. I thought water was always HOT! Anyway, just go with the flow!

  13. Someone else's observation on the "customs delay" Guangzhou "customs delay" Best wishes, guy.
  14. Ours is predicted for the same day as yours was!! Jiaying! Go check your mail!! Good for you guys!
  15. From the Encyclopedia; "Superstition is a set of behaviors that may be faith based, or related to magical thinking, whereby the practitioner believes that the future, or the outcome of certain events, can be influenced by certain of his or her behaviors. An example is the belief that it is bad luck to wear gold and silver together. Yeh right Randy that is not a supertition. I think that was one of Newton's laws wasn't it? If you hang a thingie in a car or house it will be safe from destruction. In L.A. I see about as many Chinese thingies as Catholic thingies or Dream Catchers. Oh and then there are the real idolators who just hang a crystal from the rear view mirror. 151378[/snapback] Also look up "decoration" while you're in there, guy
  16. Employess are allowed 2 weeks or more vacation time every year. Some employers will allow you to borrow vacation time from next year for a special purpose like a honeymoon. I know that with my employer, though, I'd be working Saturdays into next year to make up the time, since I've already spent 2 weeks in China and 1 in Washington. No flowers, wedding cake, best man, etc. are necessary. Minimum costs are for the wedding license, and minister, depending on what you want. Some will marry you for free.
  17. You need to figure out if a B-2 visitor's visa can be granted to visit a non-permanent resident relative. B-2 Visitor's Visa I'm pretty sure she will need a green card, but Tine & Ella may be able to help with this question.
  18. I think I can speak for everyone here and thank you for bringing this to our attention. An excellent (and very timely) post.??Hang in there, buddy.
  19. Ours was bounced in July, because she didn't answer that "None" of the persons listed in item xx would accompany her. The form was sent back - in the meantime, she filled out a new form and sent it in. It was almost a month after the GUZ had signed for it at the Swan Hotel before they would even acknowledge receiving it. But we are finally back in the queue, and are awaiting our P4 in October (as predicted here).??In other words, I think (and hope) that they put you back in line based on the original received from NVC date.??But get it in NOW to be sure!
  20. We're all here just waiting for some beaurocrat to allow our new life to come. Some nameless, faceless, beaurocrat operating behind the scenes doing who knows what with the only hint of activity coming every few months in the form of a letter or P3 or P4. Thingies and cheetos help pass the time, but I don't eat cheetos. And, no, she doesn't have superstitions, although she gave me a 'good luck' dangle for my car, and plans to bring a large one for the house.
  21. I send email through the consulate website and often get a response within hours. I try no more often than every 2 weeks, and usually get a personalized response, rather than a form letter. However, when they provide an "expected wait time", it is usually a pre-canned figure.
  22. It seems that having the word 'lawyer' in your timeline automatically adds 3 months to a year to it. I cannot imagine, Doug. I cannot imagine what you are going through and what a strain it must be.
  23. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/grinser/grinning-smiley-003.gif Way to Go!! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/grinser/grinning-smiley-003.gif
  24. . . . . and I felt like April was a long time (from a Feb filing date)! I can't begin to imagine what you're going through, or how you're getting through it! I hope you're first in line!
  25. Quite a story. Hang in there! Our hearts are with you
