Internship or scholorship verses just sponsering
Randy W replied to jamin55's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Read the links you provide, also. Scholarships at schools which cater to foreign students are handled by the admissions department, and are included as part of your support when applying for the F-1 visa. When you apply for the F-1 visa , you must show that the funds are available to pay for your schooling, which will tend to RULE OUT any further scholarship. Work with your admissions office. -

We have many Chinese people at work who got Bachelor's degrees in China, and then came here for their graduate work. When someone TELLS you they got a scholarship, you don't ask for documentation. When someone TELLS you they worked as a TA to help pay their tuition, you don't ask for proof. Whether these people are a "good source" or not - well, I'm not entirely sure of how complete of a story I got. I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong - maybe the scholarships were for private schools, maybe one or more is old enough that the law didn't apply to them. Some schools won't even give you an I-20, so it's not surprising that they wouldn't offer a scholarship for an F-1 student. I see the law as applying only to elementary and secondary schools, not to colleges Here - I found one right of fthe bat for "new international student applicants (F-1 visa category)" - http://www.glendale.cc.ca.us/international/scolarship.htm Do a search for "F-1 college scholarships" All I'm saying is don't give hope hope for financial aid until you've checked with your school and maybe some others. There are PRIVATE schools (MIT, CalTech, I think the Ivy League schools and Stanford) that offer financial aid to EVERY student based on need. -
Vista Home Premium does not have an option to input Chinese Language. It has Japanese, Vietnamese, and several others but not Chinese. I can find no way to download Chinese. Mcrosoft wants to charge to answer any questions. Try Japanese - same characters.

Read the law - it ONLY applies to elementary and secondary - K through 12. I can find plenty of people at work who DID get scholarships and other forms of financial aid -

My wife and I will have our SSN, but our daughter will still have the ITIN. Will she count? I was not sure from the paper. It seems it says the filler, but not anything about dependents. The rebate is 300-600 husband, and 300-600 wife for a total of 1200, children are not counted. I think the final bill had 300 per child added to it. From the article:

I-693A Vaccination Supplement for Intending Immigrant

Sounds odd, alright, but it should work. You most likely won't need the copy, but can get one if you need it. -

Notice this applies to elementary and secondary students (K-12) only. College students are not affected, unless I'm missing something. -
How long does it take EAD to be approved?
Randy W replied to kgkg's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
While employers in most areas of the country might require you to have an EAD card before beginning work, in areas with a high concentration of illegal aliens an alien who is eligible to apply for EAD is preferred to the illegals. They can furnish the card within the 90 days. Reporting is done to the IRS and USCIS only on an annual basis. Ask your prospective employer what they require. If you want to wait for the card, there's nothing wrong with that either. But I am not authorized to work before I get EAD, so the 90 day requirement does not apply to me. Waiting for the card is definitely an option. -

All employers in the USA must verify employment eligibility, that is EAD card or green-card, this is specified on form I-9. From the I-9: While employers in most areas of the country might require you to have an EAD card before beginning work, in areas with a high concentration of illegal aliens an alien who is eligible to apply for EAD is preferred to the illegals. Ask them when they can hire you? That is, what paperwork would they require in order for you to begin working? -
Wow! Congratulations! We shouldn't be far behind.

This was the closest I could find, but it still reads in the future tense, and "Maybe". I'm glad you were able to get it taken care of - I also hope that anyone else who finds themselves in the same position realizes that certified translations can also be done in the US.

Hey! Congrats!

Sorry, but in my previous post "#4 in this thread" I stated that they SPECIFICALLY ask for "NOTARIZED ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS OF ALL SUBMITTED DOCUMENTS..." Someone in California can NOT Legally Notarize the translation of a document from someone who mails it to them from China! They MUST witness the original writer's signature on the original Chinese document. I WISH it would have been that easy... It was NOT. You need to make this a do-able task. GUZ does not ask the impossible - just that you do the best that you can. I don't see that they're asking that the signature be notarized - just the translation of the document. Why don't you do what they ask, and let them accept it or not? If you reject it yourself, she'll never get the visa.

Yes - but your response to the "Did you use an IMB question has always been met with a "Gee, that's nice!"-type response. That is, there has never been any follow through that we are aware of. Note that there are several obligations that an IMB "must" follow - but the DOS has no jurisdiction over these websites. Note also that there are no guidelines anywhere - beyond the language in the law itself - as to exactly which websites are IMB's and which are not. There has been much discussion about the issue - nothing definitive. If you ask the website, they're likely to refer you to DOS, which has no guidelines. I advise to answer "No", unless you know for certain that you have used an IMB. AND to disclose any criminal background which falls under the IMB guidelines in your original application. They will most likely simply pass it along to the beneficiary.

Read the memo more closely - there is no change for family-based applications (only employment based) The "change" is to make a single biometrics appointment for both the AOS and the EAD card for employment-based applications, which family-based applicants are already doing.

They do in Houston (at least for the ASC on 290W). If you get there before the appt time, you wait outside until it's time.

I-693A Vaccination Supplement for Intending Immigrant
Randy W replied to michaelt's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
No - they will simply transcribe the shots from the yellow book on to the vaccination supplement - it's actually the I-693A - and put one copy in a sealed envelope, and give you a separate copy. The CS will have the forms. -
mikepellicore is the person who I remember doing this. His most recent post indicates the government seems to have lost his I-130 .. I didn't keep up with that thread, so I don't know if it was ultimately resolved. I think don't do ANYTHING out of the ordinary. The INS seems to have enough trouble keeping up with the normal day-to-day processes, and if you step outside that flow, they get totally lost. If you want to return home at some point later, just go. You don't need an excuse of the I-130. My opinion is (always) go I-130, and don't bother with K3. The difference in time is really not that much, and hopefully then your done with the US government for a while. What we plan to do is to buy open ended round trip tickets when we fly my wife and daughter from China to America. This way when they want to visit China, they have their tickets ready, so cost doesn't become an issue. We will just continue to buy round trip tickets every trip. I know the money works out the same, or maybe a bit more because of the open ended tickets, but it feels comfortable (to me) to always have that ticket home in my pocket The I-130 is forwarded to GUZ. The beneficiary who comes over on a K-3 then has the choice of adjusting status on the K-3 in the US, or going back to Guangzhou to interview for the CR-1 (I-130). I don't think the I-130 needs to come to the US, if AOS is filed for in the states. In either case the K-3 is a multiple entry visa and may be used to go to China and come back to the US with or without the CR-1. The CR-1 would work the same way if you passed on the K-3. Here's Mike's thread - http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=377651 Reading his post again, it looks like he may have wanted to catch up to the I-130 in GUZ and interview for the CR-1. Hopefully, it showed up.
