  1. With that pride and prejudice in your mind, no matter what they do or what they say will make you feel they are jealous. They look up to you and feel crazy when they can't reach where you are and what you have. When they are crazy, they do bad things like making up stories and getting themselves fired. But the whole thing sounds like a make up story to me. I don't think that you can simply get fired just because you make up stories, and I don't think that the principal has the right to fire teachers. Things don't work that way in China. I'm lucky enough not to have experience what your SO is going through now. But, I do believe that people are just so different and there are bad people everywhere, in China and in America. I feel sorry for your SO for being treated like that. But your "writing style" or your tone in the whole thread makes me feel very uncomfortable.
  2. Just curious where your SO lives? Why are there so many bad people?
  3. I just don't quite understand why her co-workers are so jealous of her and make it so difficult for her instead of giving her best wishes and blessing. It sounds to me that she's surrounded by a whole bunch of bad guys. Does she have some friends who can help her at all?
  4. Before he and she get married, neither of them should ask for money from each other. But of course they would love to support each other financially when needed because they love each other. When people are in love, they give instead of ask... If THEY decide that she quit the job, that's when they need to talk openly about their finance. Even if they're not married yet(K1), they're making decision as a couple. Instead of saying he supporting her or she supporting him, I'd rather say they work out together about their finance. They're husband-and-wife or husband-and-wife-to-be. They are or are going to share a LIFE together "for better or for worse". Quiting her job or not, it should be decided by both of them. But personally I think she should only quit her job a month or so before she flies to America. A month or so is long enough to pack and to say good-bye to family and friends. Life is boring when working too much, too hard or not working at all. If he and she do decide that she quits, and if she has enough money to spend until she moves to America, he doesn't need to send money to her. Why bother exchanging dollars to RMB and later exchanging back to dollars so she could bring back to America? oh of course she can keep in her China bank account so that later when she and he visit China, they can use it.
  5. Women call shots in domestic finances Sun Xiaohua 2005-12-06 05:52 The stereotype that Chinese women wear the trousers when it comes to domestic finances has been proved true by a recent survey The survey, carried out by Huakun Consumer Guidance Centre for the All-China Women's Federation, found that 77 per cent of married women are the decision makers when it comes to food, clothing and essential commodities. More than 1,000 women aged 20 to 70 from eight cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Harbin were quizzed in the survey. About 23 per cent of the surveyed women said that they could make an independent decision when making a major purchase like buying a house, car or other valuables. 77 per cent of women discussed big purchases with their husbands, but said their opinion was important. Of the women, 46 per cent said they could spend their earnings as they pleased. Half of the women said they pooled their incomes with their husbands' and spent together, but only 2 per cent of women liked to give their money to their spouse. "Every month, I am only responsible for the mortgage payment of our house, about 1,200 yuan (US$148)," said a 26-year-old woman from Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province, who declined to give her name. She works in the marketing department of a company with a regular monthly salary of more than 5,000 yuan (US$617), plus bonuses. Her husband's salary is about 2,000 yuan (US$247) every month. "My husband pays all the expenditures for our daily living, and I spend the rest of my earnings on clothes and accessories," she said. Her words echo many others in the survey, in as much as women spend most on clothes, communications and travelling. Women aged from 31 to 40 are the biggest consumers. (China Daily 12/06/2005 page2)

  9. Tonny, I like Ming-Na too. I love and hate ER. I love it because it's a very interesting show. I can't wait until next Thursday night. I hate it because they talk too fast. I also like Joan Chen. She's in "Last Emperor", "Little Flower" and "Golden Gate", "Heaven and Earth".
  10. About a month ago, we filed W-7 application to get an ITIN for my son. Today we got it back from IRS, saying that "You must file your Form w-7 with your valid tax return." So we are thinking that we don't have to file W-7 seperately, what we need to do is to file our tax return form together with W-7 form. Did we get it right? Any comments? suggestions? experiences? We appreciate it very much. Q&Q
  11. Relax while waiting for the good news...maybe she'll call you after the interview in Guangzhou...you don't have to wait until Wednesday. Good luck!
  12. hi Tine and Ella, How's your little cutie? Thank you for your reply. I do hope my security check will be finished soon. I need the I-551 stamp or better, my green card. We're planning to go back to China in June, but we're now worried. We're thinking of appying for another AP, but it's very possible that when we get our AP, we might have got the stamp or green card. But if we don't apply for another AP, who knows when they will finish my security check. This really makes me Q&Q
  13. Thank you, michael, but I'm still confused. My red number is on lower right, but you said upper right. So upper or lower?
  14. We're filling out IRS w-7, trying to get my son a number for filing tax return. His visa number is required, but we're not sure which one is the visa number. Is it the control number on the top right or the shorter RED number on the lower right? Another question is that if you check "Dependent of US citizen" or "Dependent of a nonresident alien"? Thank you &happy new year!
  15. Finally we got my son's own interview letter. His interview is on the same day as mine, but seperate time. Mine is in the morning and his is in the afternoon.
  16. How embarrassing. The number doesn't work. When Brian got home, he tried and got through. You know why I couldn't get through? It's toll free, but I would like to pay I used big zoo
  17. Merry Christmas to all! I'm so happy that I got my AOS interview letter yesterday, my interview will be on Jan. 12. We filed my son's AOS together with me, but I didn't get his interview letter. I'm wondering if he doesn't need a seperate letter. I was trying to call SF INS office, but was told the number had been changed. I called 1-800-375-5283, but it says it's not a valid number. Does anyone have SF phone number or national service centre phone number? Thank you! Q&Q
  18. I have a friend whose son is now 7 years old. He was born in USA. My friend and her husband are both Chinese. Now the little one speaks both languages very well, he has no problem swtiching from one to the other. I don't know if he speaks Cantonese too. His father(my friend's husband) speaks Cantonese. I'm curious. I should ask her next time I see her. It's musch easier for kids to pick up languages. I think if you keep talking to your baby in both languages, he'll pick up both languages without any difficulties in speaking and listening. But by the time he goes to school, he has to focus on English and he's going to learn English language art instead of Chinese language art. If you only expect him to speak and understand daily use Chinese, you may try to talk to him in both languages after he's born. He'll pick up both without any doubt. But if you expect more, if you expect him to learn Chinese as well as English, you should send him to a Chinese school to learn it. My 12-year-old son is in a different situation. After being here for nearly 8 months, I'm so surprised to see his improvement in his English and at the same time so depressed to find that he's forgetting his Chinese charactors. The last 8 months, we were busy helping him with English, and did little with his Chinese. We did keep him reading some Chinese books. But when I think it's time for him to write in Chinese again(I try to let him write an essay every week), I found he couldn't write some charactors, even those very easy ones. How frustrating! oh, well, I guess I have more work to do now. I have to teach him Chinese by myself, since we can't find a Chinese school here in our city. Hmmm....
  19. Best wishes to you and your family, Owen. Wish your family would be reunited soon. No matter how old we are, we always need our family, need staying close to our family. Now I have my sweet home in USA, but at times I miss my parents very much, hoping to see them in the very next minute. When I was talking to my mother by yahoo video yesterday, she said she was going shopping in the afternoon, and she asked if I would like to go with her. On hearing that, I was laughing with tears in my eyes. How I wish I could, but i can't. I have to wait and wait and wait. I'm glad my son is here with me. He's only 12. After going through all those bad relations back in China, what makes me feel consoled is that my son is with me all the time. I want to be with him, see him grow up. And I'm so lucky to have found a very loving, caring man. Now 3 of us have a sweet home, leading a simple yet very happy life in California. Q&Q
