  1. Thanks, that's the address I got from John90. I wonder what would happen if I sent it to the actual address, which is 10 W Jackson (a block from where I work). But I don't want to take any chances.
  2. I did the same as you with the vaccination supplement envelope. For the photos though I just put them in an envelope and wrote PHOTOS on the outside then punched that. I'm a little confused about which address to send the packet to. The address john90 gave me is different than the actual address of homeland security, which is 10 W Jackson. Anyone know for sure which address to use if you want a signature? Thank!
  3. When I went to Homeland Security today to submit the AOS paperwork (which they wouldn't let me do, by the way... said I had to mail it) I asked the woman about the ACCO fasteners/binder requirements. She said they will take it out of your binder and put it in their own system so they don't really care how you send it, as long as it's organized.
  4. I would prepare all the information with your ties to the US for the interview. You don't need it before then. It is a possible interview question.
  5. Thanks John- I just looked on the USCIS website and the Homeland Security Office is literally across the street from where I work. I am going to go over there in a few minutes to ask about hand submitting applications and also to get the final answer on assembly of documents.
  6. LaSalle is just down the street from where I work. Does anyone know if I can hand deliver it? John- on the floor on that address for getting a signature there is a ? in front of the number. Should it be the 23rd or 3rd floor? Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the info John. So it looks like about 2 weeks after mailing the AOS paperwork would be safe to file for EAD. Where is the overnight address at- is it on the I-485? Thanks again.
  8. I also lived in China for 2 straight years and my husband almost didn't get the visa because of that. Luckily, when told he must prove my ties to the US, he remembered to pull out a letter from a University accepting me to the Master's program. That was enough for us, but the VO's do take domicile as a serious issue.
  9. I am planning on mailing in the AOS papers and then e-filing- I just wonder when and how will I know that I-485 has been recieved and uploaded? Will they send a notice?
  10. I've gone to 2 Staples and an Office Max, as well as looked online, and I still can't find any kind of file I can use that has end tabs. Everything is on the side. I feel like going back to China to the tiny store where I bought the last folder for submitting the K-1 petition. They had exactly what I need. This is so frustrating!!
  11. After we mail in everything for AOS, what will happen? Will we get a notice saying they have recieved everything? If they don't send out notices, when will we know when it's safe to e-file for EAD? I've heard that you can't file for EAD until the AOS application has been recieved. How long should we wait after mailing it in? Thanks.
  12. Thanks Carl- The folder I bought is basically the same as the first one on that page. Will that one be Ok, even though it uses side tabs? Also it didn't come with the fasteners- are those critical? Thanks.
  13. Thanks Tony, but I didn't see a binder on that site that has bottom tabs. They also didn't have them at the Staples store I went to. They have folders with 2 hole fasteners at the top, with side tabs. Does anyone know exactly what that kind of folder/binder would be called? The last time I bought one, for the K-1 petition, it was in China. Here is basically what I've found, will it work? http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...ATURED:SC1:CG15
  14. Hmm... so you're saying I can make my own tabs. Hadn't thought of that, good idea. Is there any specific order to the tabs? Are the fasteners called ACCO fasteners? I'll look for some of those on my lunch. Also, where do the 2 pictures go? I'm sure those shouldn't be hole punched. I was thinking of putting them in an envelope and punching that, as well as the money order.
  15. I have looked in all the office stores around my area and can't find the kind of binder that opens from the bottom, 2 hole punch at the top, and has tabs at the bottom. Can anyone give me a wesbite or tell me where you found such a creature? I can only find something that has tabs on the side with partitions in the middle. I want to mail this out tomorrow... help appreciated....
  16. When living in China I also got into this habit because the streets of China are filthy and covered with snot, spit and other by products of bodily functions. My husband will occasionally wear shoes in the house here because it's much cleaner. I got used to taking them off though, I think it's more comfortable and still continue the habit.
  17. This is a good idea.... also, how did you assemble your papers? Did you put them in a binder similiar to the petition? For the petition I had a binder that opened from the bottom, with the files attached at the top and a table of contents. Is this how others submitted their AOS papers? Thanks.
  18. Thanks, actually that is helpful. The reason why it's a little confusing for us is cuz we live with my mom so I guess she would be a household member. But she is not dependent on us. And I was hoping to sponsor my husband alone, but since I didn't make enough money when I was living in China, I guess my mom will have to co-sponser. So we will need the I-864A, with my mom as the household member. So... if my mom is a joint sponser, but we live in the same house, does she need to file another I-864 or is the "A" part enough for her income to also count? My husband isn't working so I can't count his income. Thanks again.
  19. This is the last form to fill out before we can send everything in... and it's the hardest. I have a couple of questions: 1. Part 2: Basis for filing affidavit of support- which one should we check? 2. I currently make enough money to sponsor my husband but I didn't the past 3 years and that will show on my tax returns. Does he need a co-sponsor or does only current income matter? 3. I lived in China for the past 2 years and didn't file for taxes. What do I do??? 4. I don't understand form I-864A: what is the difference between household member and immigrant? Thanks. Thanks.
  20. You can file EAD at the same time you file your AOS paperwork--but NOT before! Why efile if your sending in the AOS paperwork? why not sedn them in together? 159762[/snapback] Why? Cuz it's easier for me to fill out everything online than print it out and write it by hand. I can type a lot faster than I can write. Guess it's not the same for everyone though.
  21. What if you want to efile the EAD? Do you have to do it after you submit AOS paperwork? How much longer afterwards?
  22. I don't know why they gave him a TB test- after he tested positive he showed them the X-rays taken in GZ for the medical exam. The doctor stated very definatly that he does NOT have TB- she wanted him to take some prevention medicine for 9 months. She already signed off on the form for us so we have that. I guess we won't do the prevention program since it seems that we don't need it.
  23. My understanding is that it's prevention program, not a treatment. Have you heard of this 9 month prevention program before? The doctor said that the childhood TB vaccination is not long lasting. Thanks. Amber
  24. You're right Mari, we already got the supplement.
