March 3 w/Maura Harty

Recommended Posts

I'm willing to fork out the 200 RMB and see what she has to say if there's the chance to ask much, but want to know a few things:

First, if there's much support here for this, and if anyone else is in BJ and can also go.

Second, if I got a chance to ask just one question/make one statement, what should it be?

Third, if anyone has or can easily gather statistical info on timelines (around the world) to show how bad GZ is. Not just bitch without comparative evidence. If anyone could put something together that I can present to her, if possible, that'd be best. I would assume many of you have a lot of knowledge on this!!

Thanks,

Jenny

By my count, from NOA2 to Interview based on CFLers stats is 210 days average.

Using Visa Journey stats, China is the second worst in the world. ( There was only 1 Algeria K3, so I think China is still the worst in the world)

The following I pulled off of Visa Journey. Thats the best I could find real quick. All based on Jan2004 to Feb2005.

Three of the top five. Anyone see a similarity??

Yeah, but what's up with Algeria and Ghana? I know a ton of folks from Ghana, but never met anyone from Algeria. Maybe it's a numbers thing, lots of people from these countries so it slows the system down.

The exception being Algeria where they just have one old dude nearing retirement only working on Wednesdays to process their visas.

Tell Mata Hari the US needs more consulates to process K-1/K-3 visas in China, preferably in Beijing or somewhere north.

I don't know if it will be worthwhile, with one hour for session plus Q & A's, it seems as she will speak about the virtues of the visa process. This woman should spend a whole day listening to the horror stories some of us could talk about, and questions like " why is it that our name check is still pending after 7 months and 17 days and nobody cares? Sorry, but I'm just so frustrated I can no longer see any positivism in anything. :)

So sorry, Mari. I really wish I could sit her down and go into detail over everyone's case... I just hope to get a chance to talk at all. I suspect being as it's AmCham that the focus will be on business. As long as they let me in anyway, I'll try to corner her. ;) If anyone wants to compile individual stories on paper for me to hand to her, I'd be happy to.

Thanks for the stats. k1k3.com has lots of timelines too but you'd have to sit down and go through each one to count the dates. Only a couple from Algeria that weren't all completed. I had an Algerian b/f in Paris and my parents were convinced he was after my passport - that part of the world is def always suspicious to people. As is this.

And if I accidentally call her Mata Hari, Mark, I'm coming after you... I'm having a hard enough time remembering her name!

Don't worry Louisa - will see what I can do.

Will keep y'all posted anyway and any other information, suggestions, pleae let me know.

I tried to compile data off of K1K3 site, but it is simply too time consuming.

I looked at the stats for immigrants by country to see how many are being processed. It appears that the Philippines and India consulate handle as many visa applicants if not more than Guangzhou. Certainly India makes the claim on their page they handle the most. I also note they are much more informative than Guangzhou on their web page with some interesting stats here:

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/wwwhstat.html

I also counted their schedule for March interviews of the following:

Mumbai

K1 15

K3 11

CR1 93

CR2 1

New Dehli

K1 56

K3 87

CR1 119

CR2 11

Chennai

K1 20

K3 16

CR1 21

CR2 1

Guess all three consulates handle the visa's.

Hey nooneufo,

Thanks for taking the time to "crunch" the data and report it here. Is it ok of we extract a little info off your post and use it in written form on VJ to back up the statement of GZ being one of the slowest consulates around? Ties in with the "got a gripe with GZ thread". I DO want solid facts here not just "gripes"- maybe I should have termed it differently. Thanks again, Richard
