Mengxin
I sent my I-864 payment to MO today. I was thinking that everything would go smoothly from now on because I fired my lawyer, but he got me one more time. I brought this up before, but I'll bring it up again. My lawyer did my 325, 130 and 129 in adobe acrobat. What happened was that my wifes adress was too long for the box in the adress section and it was cut off early by the box next to it on the right. I looked at all 4 copies. Same thing all the way through. There's no way it would find my wife. Too much of the adress was cut-off. I noticed it right away and told my lawyer about it. He made the font smaller and it fit ok.....on the 1st page.He mailed the paperwork off and he always did a very poor job, so I ended up firing him. (don't ask about the $$$ I paid up front.) When I took the paperwork back from him, I noticed that he only fixed the 1st page, the other 3 were still cut off. A little while later I got my RFE. The officer didn't catch the mistake either, so I pointed it out , along with the other requested evidence and wrote an explaination. I also sent back corrected versions of her 325 x4. Taken care of right? Wrong.I just recieved the 184 bill Saturday. My wife didn't get her 3025 yet, but I didn't expect her to, since she lives a little further away from NH than I do. I saw on the instructions we can fax the document to her to have her sign it. The doc doesn't need to be notarized, so I already had her sign a copy for me when I went to see her last month. I was going to send it in, since I had her signature on the internet copy. The copy I got in the mail was personalized and I didn't want NVC to think I was cheating, I know they are looking for that warm fuzzy "it came from China" feeling, so I scanned a copy of the form I recieved in adobe and e-mailed the doc to her. She asked me for clear instructions what she wanted me to have her do. I wrote NVC NH's adress down for her to reply to and I (for a moment thought it was stupid) wrote her adress down too. I copied it off the adress she gave me, not off the adress that was on the forms. Good thing. My god I couldnt believe it. Her adress on the forms were cut off, just like they were on the other 3 copies of the screwed up 325's. If I would have mailed the copy of the pre-signed 3025, I wouldn't have caught the mistake. Our paperwork again would have been missing in China somewhere between GZ and Shanghai. Never would have known better. So I can tell you that the 1st page of the 325 form does not go to the office that sends your wives the 3025 form. If I still had my lawyer there would be no way in $%^%$% he would have caught that. I was so happy with the way things were going since I don't talk to him anymore, I thought it was over with him and forgot him already, but no. So words to the wise...when using those adobe forms to do your paperwork check it closely. All pages. If you thought about forgeing your wifes signature or had her fill it out earlier. You might want to think again. I knew NVC was wanting to see that the letter come from China and not CA, so I decided it was best to have her sign it again anyway. Lesson learned, It's not worth it to take shortcuts. My laywer did and it cost me alot of grief and restless nights of stressing out. I was determined to not let that happen again. Fortunately it paid dividends for me. Link to comment
dalede
I am so pissed off at my idiot lawyer -- I want to fire her-- but am afraid of what it would do in terms of slowing down the process... Can you offer a perspective on that? Thanks.. Dale Link to comment
Mengxin
K1 or K3? How far along in the process? Service center? Link to comment
warpedbored
Too many lawyers take K visa cases on the learn as you go system assuring you they know what they are doing. I hold with the school of thought that it is better to do it yourself but for those of you who insist on wasting your money make sure you get an attorney who has a lot of experience with K-visas. If they tell you it will take only 6-8 months put your money back in your pocket. Link to comment
ghall20
All a lawyer does is ask you the same information that is on the forms... then they type it on the form (or there secretary does) and then mails it off... for 1-2k Link to comment
bobmal99
Many years ago when Vince Lombardi, was a very successful coach, he was asked how he picked a quaterback. He stated after many years of coaching, he often would tell his players to run through a brick wall. The one who walked around the wall would be his quaterback. Most of these Immigration Lawyers seem to be running into that wall, and are not intelligent enough to do the basic paperwork for the types of visa's people from CFL are looking for. It is pretty easy to do all this paperwork, if you just take your time and read carefully!! Link to comment
Guest Long_strider
Hey...for 1-2k I would be more than happy to fill out the forms for any K-1er's. I have done it with success and would enjoy the extra money.... Any takers? P.S. I do not have a law degree. Ok so maybe I will do it for 1k. Should take me about 3 hours to type everything up and double check the spelling. Link to comment
nousername
I found this rather interesting. I didn't use a lawyer, but of course i noticed this problem with the forms for my fiancee's address too. BUT i went to the other extreme, I included and "address supplement" to my I-129f... with her address in 4 different formats: a "long version" and a "short version" then in English and Chinese for both!!! IN ADDITION ( there's more?? yes... ), i included a single sheet with both the English and Chinese "long version" printed on it, this was to be used as an address label. Anyway, in the end, i started getting worried that i'd get RFE'd for this... i thought maybe it was overkill, and would confuse the heck out them! So far so good, but they still have yet to send anything to my fiancee.... so only time will tell if they really understood my address maddness. Link to comment
Mengxin
He told me had done 10 visa's before, I doubt it. It's true that they just ask you the exactly same questions as the I-129F, I-130 and the G-325A. He just didn't tell me the document #'s and I didn't know what the requirements were before I hired him. I'm kicking my own butt for it now. He would have cost me an extra 4 months or more, if CSC wouldn't have changed there process to eliminate backlog and I continued to trust him. He was a nice guy, but he didn't really care about my wife's visa at all. If you want it done right, do it yourself. The trouble is knowing where to find the resources on the web that breaks it down without all the goverment lingo. I found them after it was too late. For K3 this is all you need to get startedVisajourney.com and John and Rose K3 Link to comment
eeyore
So far it looks like I filed the paperwork correctly. Maybe I should start a business. I'll only charge $500.00 Actually, I'm sorry to hear you had problems. For the money a layer charges you think they could get it right esp since its not really that hard. If you want to live a life of crime and don't want to do the time just become a layer....................or a politician At least the mistakes do not make it impossible to get your loved one here.
