Randy W
on Facebook just now Carl Etherton was tagged in this.Sarah Kolsky with Carl Etherton.49 mins · The world lost a great man today. .......When I was a little girl you taught me to sing 'Ol Ben Lucas and how to flip the bird to the cars behind us! (I believe I got in trouble for said bird in 3rd grade )As a grown woman you encouraged me to keep being myself, reminded me that I was a beautiful strong woman, appreciated my warped sense of humor, helped me through the loss of my father, reminded me that said sense of humor was something I got from my dad... You were always there if I needed to talk, you gave me a connection to dad long after he was gone. I'm going to miss that, I miss you already! I love you Uncle Carl! I will cherish all of our memories forever!!! Link to comment

tsap seui
Carl never really gave out much to us about himself but boy, what a nice feller who had one helluva sense of humor, and who loved to laugh. I'll just have to write more about Carl later....this is overwhelming to hear, right now. Link to comment
Oldfriend
Carl helped so many of us during the dark days of visa hell. He was especially helpful to me. He gave so much to my survival here and on FB. I flew out from PA as soon as I heard he was hospitalized and finally met him yesterday morning. I finally got to say thank you. 7 Link to comment
C4Racer
An incredibly mournful day... Beyond sad... I know some of you think that Carl never gave out much about himself here. This was the kind of man Carl was. Someone who would not brag about himself.Yet, Candle for Love is still around because of all Carl gave and his devotion. He was an incredible friend to those who would take the time to know him. I will never forget Carl. Our first dinner together in Beaverton.Hell, I met Carl and learned about Candle before I actually met my wife. His wife Bing introduced my wife and I.I was at Carl's wedding. He and Bing were our witnesses. My heart goes out to Bing because I know she lost an incredible husband. Life's journey has it's ups and downs, it's joys and sorrow. The most devastating feeling in life come from the loss of friends and loved ones.Carl was like a brother I will never forget. I will always strive to remember.I am a better person today for the friendship Carl and I shared.Yes, I could have missed the pain, but I am better off having had him in my life. Good-bye Good Friend,May God Bless You and take you home 4 Link to comment
amberjack1234
I am just speechless. Ole Carl had a lot of trials and tribulations in life but he was such a strong man that he overcame them all and went on and became a reputable pillar of his community and yes he was a good friend to me. We didn't talk much on line but we did PM each other. God bless you Carl and all the best to Bing in the future. From my own experience I know that it will take a long time. Most likely forever. 1 Link to comment
chilton747
This blows mind! I kept in touch with him via PM and the last thing he told me that he was giving up the helm here. He was also working on his 3rd guitar.Oh man, this is horrible news. 1 Link to comment

Allon
I know he did not say enough now but in those early days he worked it. Made good sense and in a gentle way. 1 Link to comment

dnoblett
The manager of the woodworking store Carl worked at is making an Urn for Carl, that's awesome. "The start of Carl's urn. Curly Chestnut, Black Walnut, and Maple burl" http://www.rockler.com/retail/stores/or/portland-store An example of his work... https://www.facebook.com/chris.nilluka/posts/10213527195997050 Edited September 22, 2023 by Randy W (see edit history) 3 Link to comment
dnoblett
Status of urn from Facebook... Quote Here's Carl's urn thus far. Bottom is hollowed, segmented feature rings are glued in, and started hollowing the upper half. The overall shape is just roughed out and needs to be finish turned. Still need to finished hollowing it, turn the cap, and complete the ornamentation. https://www.facebook.com/chris.nilluka/posts/10213561408492341 Edited September 22, 2023 by Randy W (see edit history) 1 Link to comment
