QQ setup

Recommended Posts

It seems my wife's friends and family are only comfortable with QQ. My wife can navigate to the chat service okay but cannot setup the webcam and microphone -- she is a bit technically challanged. I am more than a bit Chinese language challanged, so can anyone help? I have a plug and play Logitech webcam that worked fine when we used Skype or Yahoo. Step-by-step instruction in both Chinese and English characters would be great. Thanks!

On my wife's computer we use the International version of QQ, it supports Chinese characters and all that, however the User Interface is in English allowing me the ability to configure it.

Is your problem setting up QQ or getting a webcam to work with QQ? I am not sure I have ever seen a QQ application with a video function.

ETA: I just asked my wife, she said it is possible, I will see if she has a link.

Here's what QQ Video Chat looks like, at least in the international multilanguage edition.

My wife somehow get to the QQ chat but I don't thinks she installed anything. She was using the video chat and could see her friend but they could not see her. I will install the international version since I will need to configure and trouble-shoot any issues. Can you simply toggle back and forth between English and Chinese characters?

Yes, simply toggle back and forth between languages just like any other application on the PC or MAC, using the Language bar Icon on the tool bar, select Chinese as the input (IME) language and type away.

As for the application's user interface language, the language menus dialog boxes and other things, it looks like Eng,Jap,Fre are the choices, so leave it in English.

If you use QQ, just make sure do not expose much personal/private information because QQ is not very secure. A few months ago QQ was caught for collecting people's information specially financial information. Also many people's QQ accounts were invaded by hackers. Watch out when you use QQ.

Get the latest QQ international version, just google QQ international. Video should be plug and play, never had problem with ours. Bonus to the international version is built in translator that does a better job translating then any other we have found. Its scary accurate on translations.

The built in translator is only on the latest version, so if you already have International, go back and update.
