warpedbored
It depends on how fast the service center is that processes your petition and the district field office where your interview will be held. The USCIS office in Sacramento is processing cases from Jan 31 09 according to the USCIS web site. My guess is it will be a little faster than that since they tend to base processing times on the slowest cases. When she goes for her biometrics they will give her a study guide. They used to give an audio CD but I don't think they do anymore. Link to comment

dnoblett
Depends on your field office, I have seen times as short as two months to longer than a year. http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlis...Sacramento%20CA (Not much data but one shows 4 months or so for Sacramento.) I am of the opinion that the interview starts the second the name is called. The interviewer will make small talk about the weather, family, clothing or anything else to determine their proficiently in English. Link to comment
