RobertH
I was curious as to what everyones Partner did whenthey lived in China. My Hui was a accountant she worked freelance for many different companys and made about 4500Cny a month in Income. She was Happy to leave accounting as she told me her father had decided that would be her job.Now when she comes to to live in Arizona she is asking me what she should do. I told her pick something she likes and go for it. She would love to work with animals. We will see what she finds, when she dose find something I hope it willbe a job she really enjoys.Robert Link to comment
credzba
My wife was a senior production planning supervisor. She made about 8000 rmb per month. She was happy with her job, and proud of the accomplishments she made in her career. She gave up a lot to come to America with me. We jointly made the decision because we believed it would be better financially for our family in America. Now, less than one year after she arrived, I was laid off. I have some offers from China for work, so we could have just waited one year, and she keep her job in China. I wish she could find a job in America that she enjoys, but instead she spent 6 months applying for every kind of job she could, finally to get a CNA job that she hates. I ask her to quit, even with no income, we have enough money to live, but she says she needs to work to feel productive, even if it is a terrible job. For us, coming to America was a mistake job-wise. It has had other benefits for the family, the school for our daughter is good, and in getting away from some family pressures in China. For income, and job satisfaction, it has been a terrible step down for my wife. Link to comment

Dennis143
My first fiance was a controller at a major Nanning bank. Pretty powerful position and a major reason why she may have got cold feet at the eleventh hour. She's now the bank president. My wife, Leiqin, went to beauty school and cut hair before coming to the states. Link to comment

Dangerous for me. My wife was in exports. She did pretty well for a 24 year old after commissions every month. Her base salary was 5000 RMB a month at the exporting picture frames. It wasn't uncommon for her to take in 10-12K a month. Personally I am glad she left the job when she did. The owner was moving the office workers to a factory where they would work AND live out in the countryside. By Summer of '08 the owner could no longer pay his workers or fill orders. I find the work and factory culture in China fascinating. I am about halfway through Poorly Made In China currently. Interesting book. Link to comment
