How long Do I need to spend in GuangZhou for the Interview?

Recommended Posts

I do not have an interview date yet, but I am starting to planing my trip to GuangZhou. How many days do most people need to spend in GuangZhou from Medical Exam to get the Visa in hand? (Assume Pink Slip the first try).

Also, I read alot about this Mr. Yang place most of you stayed. Is this a Hotel or Apartment? Why many of you pick Mr. Yangs instead of other hotels in the area?

Thanks

In our case we planned on a week in GUZ we arrived on Wednesday, and left the following Thursday.

Many have reported that GUZ has been taking MUCH longer to process the visa after interview.

We stayed at the Yangs because of price, at about $25 per night we could not beat it at any hotel. The Yang's is an apartment in the same building as the consulate, so convenient, just pop outside and walk around the corner and you arrive at the consulate.

The Yangs are helpful with things like giving advice on how to organize your P4 for interview, and escorting to medical center.

Note the apartment is NOT like a hotel room so you need to accept the condition and spartaness of the place.

I spent seven days totally. Arrived on Wed afternoon---medical exam on Thursday----Paid for the visa fee and pick the sealed medical exam on Friday----waited anxiously for the Monday's interview on Sat&Sun---Interview on Monday------Shopped On Tuesday-----Picked up the visa on Wed and checked out and went back home with a relief.

The reason I chose Mr. Yang is because I heard many people give him good credit which I agree. He and his wife are very helpful and the room price is reasonable.

Thank you very much for the quick replys.

Do We need to wait in GuangZhou to pick up the VISA? or can the VISA be mailed somewhere as an option?

I am thinking, if it takes few days after the intervew to get the VISA, maybe we have few days to travel outside GuangZhou to visit some family and then come back to GuangZhou to pick up the VISA? Or better yet, have VISA mailed to us in a different city?

The VISA packet is only mailed in a couple of cities, Guangzhou for sure, can't remember others. I think most people choose to wait because visa pick-up date is within three workdays. Some choose to ask the person like Mr, Yang who is trustworthy to pick it up and then send it to them.

Thank you very much for the quick replys.

Can be mailed anywhere in Guangdong Province, but NOT out of the province.

Small fee for the PO near the consulate, bigger fee for other locations within the province.

Yes, I agree with the others. Your gonna need about a week in GZ.

It's not a bad city to be stuck in....there is lots to see and do there.

We stayed at Mr.Yangs also. It was a nice time to just be together

before going to Harbin for the wedding dinner, then rushing back to the U.S. Enjoy it! :victory:

i also stayed at the yangs after reading all the rave reviews here on cfl. it was very dirty, needed maintenance, and we had money stolen from our room. most others seemed ok with the rooms so i guess i am more picky than most folks. you can pm me if you want more details. good luck and bring home the pink!

There are other places similar that serve the same business as the Yang's, so you should have plenty options for places to stay. Some CFL members know of these other places too, if you are interested you can PM them or ask around for the right people.

There are many places within a 20 minute bus ride from the Consulate that are much cheaper. Our hotel was 40 RMB each night and the room was large and had a kitchen. If you do not need help with the paperwork then you can eaisily find these places.

We did stop in and say hello the the Yangs while we were there. My wife stayed with them during our first petition and they were very helpful to her.

We stayed in GUZ 10 days. The timing was just about perfect. We got there a few days early and had plenty of time for the medical and getting paperwork notarized. After the interview we had enough time to pick up the visas.

We stayed at Yang's too. They were very nice & helpful. The condition of the apartment was unfortunate (clean linens on the beds would have made a big difference). But, the price was relatively cheap, the apartment was big, the 15th floor view was beautiful, the location could not be better and the air conditioning worked great (essential in GUZ in June).

I saw my first typhoon while we were there.

Thank you all for your responses..

Since we just got our NOA2 in Late Nov, I do not expect the internview to be before April. Last time I checked with NVC, they said my Petition was send to GuangZhou on Nov. 25th.

I am leaving for China in a week (leaving on Xmas day) so it should be fun 3 weeks with my future wife.

I will most likly PM some of you to get more info about GuangZhou and will post if I come across any questions during the P3-Internvew phase.

Thank you all again.
