Tom
Congratulations Rob and Youyue. That’s wonderful news - I know how you feel. My wife Jingli and I just had a beautiful daughter about a month ago. English name: Lily, Chinese name Gao Li Li. When she was first born, she looked almost identical to her mother. Now, about a month later, we’re beginning to see more of me in her. It’s interesting that all our western friends think she looks more like a Chinese baby, and all our Chinese friends think she looks more like a western baby. Link to comment
robhon
It was really interesting, on one of my trips over here to China I was an American woman holding a tiny baby so I had to go talk with her. Her baby looked very Chinese and she said her husband was Chinese. Then she said, "But the other one looks more American." And she pointed over to the baby's twin sister laying on the seat next to her. Oh my god, they were both sooooo cute. My update... The women of the family are starting to really see me as an "adequate" father. Although, I think I'm probably stepping on some of their toes by taking some of their work away (changing diapers, feeding, etc.) but, it is my child and I know they'll all survive my Western way. Youyue is still recouperating and hasn't had much of a chance to spend quality time with the baby. The doctors keep her on an IV and won't let her feed until after that's finished. The hospital has been very good. They only deliver babies here. And, unlike the US, mother and child stay at the hospital (family and all) for at least a week to 10 days after the birth. It's been such an amazing experience. Not just the experience of becoming a father but becoming a father while in China, facing all the cultural and family issues along the way. I wouldn't trade one moment of it for all the money in the world. Link to comment
Dave G.
I am pleased to introduce Sonny, by Rob and Youyue.Don, Thank you for sharing Rob's baby with us. I admit my eyes are filled (I'm such a pussy). Rob...you have such a beautiful baby. You make me long for my own. Very soon....only five months away. Today, I saw Jing Mei on the web cam. In the last three days, she knitted a cute sweater from scratch for our little one. What a sweet gesture. Her 10 year old son said that we could go to the store and buy one. But, this sweater was made out of the love from a mother for her baby. God, I'm lucky!!!! Makes me think about all the stupid arguements on Candle. I won't repeat the past. But, when it comes to the love of another and the creation of life out of the love between two people, I can't help but think all that was wasted time. Rob....you are good people. Enjoy. You've earned that and so much more! Dave Link to comment
Dave G.
Handsome little tyke, ain't he? He is!!!!!! I'm afraid mine will look like Frankenstein's monster. Why? 'Cause of his dad. His mother? If so lucky, the baby will look like the Madonna. Guess time will tell. Rob...you done good. We're all happy for you. You're a good man. Good things happen to good people. robhon
Oh, and BTW, in that picture he's only about a two hours old. It's amazing how much nicer they look if they don't have to pass through that ol' birth canal. And, thank you everyone for all your nice responses. Patience, Dave, you're next! Get a little extra sleep while you can, like I did. I know it's going to a hard commodity to come by in the coming months. Link to comment
