Tomb Sweeping Day is a festival to honor ancestors by making their grave sites more tidy. Many families travel considerable distances to return to the village of their ancestors.

Sounds kind of like the day of the dead that the Mexicans celebrate. They if I remember right go to the grave and offer the dead foods and other such things in their remembrance.

Lao Po went to the countryside for three days to participate in this event. It's a pretty big deal; I guess she had to hike quite a ways up into the mountains to visit the family tomb.
