Guest knloregon
I consider Reuters to be one of the better international press agencies covering China. AP can be good too. NYT tends to wear its heart on its sleeve---IMHO.. This is the first time I have seen any reporting in the western press place the censors at "tens of thousands" .... a little hard to believe, since they are so bad at it. Don't like this crackdown any more than any of the others----it does seem PRC is even more obsessed about sexual issues on the internet than political... Link to comment
rogerluli
Hu Jintao stated that pornography could affect stability... But with the coming gender imbalance isssues perhaps not allowing pornography is more of a threat... Link to comment

IllinoisDave
Censoring porn, here or in China, is not just stupid...but it accomplishes nothing constructive. Link to comment

IllinoisDave
Gosh, it's awfully big of you guys to happily toss away another of the average Chinese citizen's rights like that. I'm sure they appreciate it. I don't care to look at porn when I'm in China and while it may be no skin off your nose that you can't see it either, I'm sure at least some of the 1.3 billion citizens there may prefer to maintain that right. What other kinds of things that YOU don't care for would you like to see the Chinese gov't take away? Edited January 24, 2008 by IllinoisDave (see edit history) Link to comment

I find it difficult to comprehend that shutting down all porn sites within China (or anywhere) is possible. It reminds me of the dike and the Little Dutch Boy. And, I suppose, that it is more publicity than it is reality. If a person really needs it, I am sure they will find it. Link to comment
