I consider Reuters to be one of the better international press agencies covering China. AP can be good too. NYT tends to wear its heart on its sleeve---IMHO..

This is the first time I have seen any reporting in the western press place the censors at "tens of thousands" .... a little hard to believe, since they are so bad at it.

Don't like this crackdown any more than any of the others----it does seem PRC is even more obsessed about sexual issues on the internet than political...

Mike,

Too right and fully agree with you! Hard to get upset by this. IMHO; BIG DEAL!

I'm supposed to lose tears over the loss of pornography or cyber-sex?

Dave, I thought this might bother you?? ;)

Watching porn in China when there would be like playing Russian roulette with a 44 and it has 5 rounds in it!!

 :) B) B)

Mark and feng!! B)

Too right Mark!

"5,000 years of Chinese culture" entering the Chinese hotel room while I'm watching Chinese X-rated porn, while using "5,000 years of culture" and my credit card to pay for the privilege, while in China in "5,000 years of culture's" backyard!

I think the following will be the end result!

Perhaps a nice Thank you card should be sent to Hu, Jintao

Gosh, it's awfully big of you guys to happily toss away another of the average Chinese citizen's rights like that. I'm sure they appreciate it.

I don't care to look at porn when I'm in China and while it may be no skin off your nose that you can't see it either, I'm sure at least some of the 1.3 billion citizens there may prefer to maintain that right.

What other kinds of things that YOU don't care for would you like to see the Chinese gov't take away?

I find it difficult to comprehend that shutting down all porn sites within China (or anywhere) is possible.

It reminds me of the dike and the Little Dutch Boy. And, I suppose, that it is more publicity than it is reality. If a person really needs it, I am sure they will find it.

Been there, done that. :)

The funny thing Dave, my two trips to Shenzhen in January and June of 2007 it did not seem as bad?? B) ;)

Yeah, when we stayed in Shenzhen during the interview process we had no trouble. Beijing was kinda hit or miss though.
