I was told by a dos officer that a reason could be that our namecheck is taking so long, is because my fiance has a common chinese name ! Is it true ?

I am worried that my name is sooooo common and soooooo popular in China.

The more common your name is, the more likely it is that you will have the same name as someone that is on the list of people to be excluded. When that happens they have to spend more time checking to make sure that you are not that person.

I have a common last name and have waited for EMS for over 5 months....but I know two Chinese girls who have the same last name as me have already had the name check cleared and got their visa. Why...mine is so slow?

Correct me if I am wrong but there are about 43 Han Chinese names.

This means there are a few names shared by a lot of people.

To use Eric's infamous quote, "Lotto!". There doesn't seem to be any real logic behind the why or wherefor of any of this process.

Not only that many Chinese have same sur names, they don't have middle names. So it is common to have many people with the same name.

My wife has a very common name but we eventually made it through the namecheck process. It did, however, take almost seven months post-interview.
