The US is 20th out of 21 nations for child welfare...

But let me ask just one question??? Why is it that so many people from other "less-devloped" countries would like to come to the US???

Is it at all possible that the only thing they have on their minds is...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Greed is good!!! Of course they could be thinking that by coming to the US they could make enough money to support those back home. The streets may not be paved with gold, but it ain't dirt either.

Also I think people need to wake up and realize the America they think they know is quickly disappearing.

If you think I rant and rave on here, you should see the letters I write to Congressmen. If you don't like what is happening throw a fit, complain and write letters letting your congressman know how you feel. Then attend one of their town hall meetings and rip them publicly if they vote for something you oppose. If nothing else it can be very entertaining regardless of which party you support.

If you really want to help out, call your congressman and demand an across the board tax cut, so you can have more money to spend on things you want and create a demand that will create more jobs, that will provide money for familys to take care of themselves. By the way, the US has the richest poor people in the world.

Yet our income inequality is among the worst in developed countries, our deficit spending patterns drive up costs, and our inability to save may bankrupt us at the personal level...

A saying I once hear: Most spend money they don't have on things they don't need... In the end, they won't have either one.

I don't want to spend more money.. I don't want more things.. I want fewer things and to keep my money.. I will put it in my pocket, thank you.

Money is easier to store, it takes up less space no matter how much you save.

Generally, I think the ability to earn a good living in the USA is available BECAUSE of our freedom. A foreigner who loves his family in his home Country may see that our FREE COUNTRY allows him to earn money that due to the favorable exchange rate, can go much further to helping his loved ones back home.

Seeking money can be as much about loving people as it is about greed. Shall we condemn the American who earns money in the USA and then retires to China where his money will go farther as only having money on his mind? I won't. My plans are similar. Will he condemn me? :whistling:

First thing that came to my mind when I read the headline was that the last and second to last countries were both native English speaking countries. Maybe that's the cause. Better change the official language to Spanish here and we may fare better. :happybday:

coma estas amigos? mi llamo Sir Lancelot, y tu?

Second thing, where is Canada and Australia in the rankings?

Third, for all the rah-rah cheering of America, having met scores of Europeans and Australians while living in Shanghai, I had never met one who claimed they wanted to live in America--NOT a single one. And these are folks who have WVP and who can come to the US easily. They can stay behind in the US and be an illegal if they so desire, but not a single one voiced their liking of the US. Everyone despised the US. I think there is a tendency to believe--or hope--that everyone around the world loves the USA. That is simply NOT true. Plenty of folks around the world despise the US and think Americans are arrogant bastards.

The rah-rah pro-American rhetoric on here is preaching to the converted choir. There is no need to be saying how great America is for the demographics here. We're are all living in the US. We can see for ourselves whether the US is great or not.

For the record, I think there are tons of problems with the US and we're no where close to being perfect, but still, I'd rather be permanently living in the US with US citizenshp than any other country. Of course I wouldn't mind living in Bora Bora either.

And that is the bottom line we were all trying to make :)

From the article Roger posted:

"Child wellbeing needs to be addressed by public policies across a broad spectrum of aspects."

No, I find that to be very incorrect. Child wellbeing needs to be addressed by the parents. Not public policies. Not the government, not congress, and certainly not the UN.

Parents. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Thats where child welfare should begin and end....with the parents.

I did not post blind statistics. The sources were shown. Here are some others. Additionally, the point being "KIDS NEED DADS". At the risk of repeating myself...

Right the F on, Rak. I'm sick of all this socialist, new world order mumbo jumbo.

Let's see... how many people in the world would rather raise their children here in the U.S. than in their home country? How many would trade their health care system for ours? How many of us would want our children to have MORE vaccinations? How many of us would trade our system of easy access to private transportation for a lower youth accident rate?

People vote with their feet and a lot of them wait a long time to come here (ring any bells for anyone here?).

Rak, Jim, and Mike, I am totally with you on this. The US is considered the NUMBER 1 country in the world by many.

You hear that Roger? :P

Wow you guys spent the whole night beating up this report... :bangin: Sorry I don't do evenings... :P Obviously Rak has some pretty strong feelings on it and I respect all your opinions... :)

Yes as everyone all over the world KNOWS... In the US the streets are paved with gold...Everyone is GIVEN $4,000/month by the benevolent government (this is what laopo was told by people in her hometown who know all about it... ).

You've nailed it Rog. I've spent two weeks in Shenyang living with Ling's family in a two room apt. The only questions I've been asked about America by her relatives have been about my family and how much things cost and how much money different jobs earn.

And when parents DO fail--for whatever reasons--the kids just have to take care of themselves???? I can't believe how shallow and selfish so many here are...........
