open Citibank savings account online

I was opening Citibank savings account online today.I was required to fill in state ID or DMV ID number. I have neither of them right now. I wonder how you open savings account for your SO when she doesn't have state ID or DMV ID number. I heard before that opening bank account only needs SSN. What's going on? Is there a way I can open my savings account?

I live in Texas and Florida. I have a Florida driver license but when opening up an account in Texas, the bank wanted a Texas ID. I took my Texas electric bill, etc and went to the texas motor vehicles showin gI lived in Texas and got not a Texas Drivers License, but a Texas ID. You need to contact your state and ask where to get a State ID. Your SO may only need her passport and some bill being sent to her.

Texas here too. I added her to my checking and savings and we opened a business account with her as the primary. We used her passport and green card. In order to continue processing they used zeros for the SSN and sent an IRS form for a temporary tax Id. By that time we had the SSN.

Walk in to a branch office and open the account in person, most banks want photo ID (Passport), and SSN, I suspect that the online systems comply to federal laws against using SSN as ID to protect against ID theft.

 

Many pishing ID theft sites on the web ask for SSN which is the easiest way to start the process of identity theft. Your average criminal cannot get into DMV systems and get the SSN from the DMV.

 

I would never give any website my SSN, and am glad to see Citibank protecting people by not asking for it.

I added my wife on my CitiBank accounts (in person) with:

 

Passport/Visa

 

Chinese ID

 

SSN

 

Phone & Gas bill with her name on them.

We did this a couple weeks ago using her passport and just the ITIN I have for her. They were about to send us home for a utility bill because the wanted two pieces of ID. I talked them into using her passport as one and her K3 visa as the other.

If I were you I would open an account for savings at ingdirect.com or emigrantdirect.com THe interest is over 5 % and its FDIC insured. You may have less hassles.

ur name for a free checking account, free

online banking included. Debit card, free

one piece of paper the bank gives ya..

(In person yes is required)..........

 

A word of advice please listen well..
