Jonathan
That's a good price for Singapore; I did the same flight but I thinkour price may have been $20 cheaper. I try to fly on Tue, Wed orThur. The down side is that you have to wait about two hours at thetransfer station in HK before you can go upstairs to have a beerbefore your connecting flight. The good side is Singapore has the best looking girls. 202663pkfops, I got confused on the words: "connecting flight" and the part about waiting? The one I am flying on is a direct non-stop flight. No waiting for a transfer... By the way, did you get your ticket online or via a Chinese travel agent? If we are talking about the same thing, and you have a direct flight, that is a great deal. I haven't been able to find $840 during all my calls to a lot of agents. But I was quoted $799 with taxes included directly from the Singapore Airlines website. I chose the option: "Flexible with travel dates" during the search in order to get that rate. During that same day, a search using "must travel on these dates" gave me a ticket price of $930 for the exact same flight. The only reason, I did not go with that $799 round trip rate was because the 1 way ticket on the same flight back for my fiance was $630. I did the math, and 799+630 direct from the airline is worse than 860+535 from a Chinese travel agent in the US. Difference of $33 bucks saved. Link to comment

If you work hard, I know you can find a good deal inSF with a Chinese travel service. I remember seeing a great dealwhen walking through chinatown for the new year posted on a storefront window. I got a great deal with GlobalNet Travel on Washington St. once.RT from SF to HK with 5 nights at the Metropole for $635 back in 2001. Other than that; it is a great feeling sitting at the Andela Cafe at SFO,drinking a beer and waiting for your Singapore flight to HK. rlheim
I just received good news from my SO that her P4 packet just arrived! Just 16 more days till interview! I booked a direct flight on Singapore Airlines. Round Trip for me is: $860One way for her is: $535 I will leave from San Francisco on Apr 10 at 1:25AM and get to Hong Kong on Apr 11, 6:30AM. Return from Hongkong to San Francisco on Apr 23, 2006. Did I get an okay deal? Or is there a better place? Singapore Airlines does cost a little more than some airlines, but they aren't that much more expensive that I would use any other.201748Boy you guys on the West coast have it good!!! Here in the Midwest it is not cost effective to go to China. We pay out the nose.Rick and Yanlan Link to comment

Jonathan
A search using the options: "flexible with dates" on singaporeairlines.com gave the following: Sat Apr 8th: $3759.66Sun Apr 9th: $940.86Mon Apr 10th: $790.86Tue Apr 11th: $790.86Wed Apr 12th: $790.86 They still have tickets available at those low prices. So if you need tickets for April, you pretty much know where to get the best deal now. I know agents that can't beat $790. No matter how many you call. I tried it. Also, I am in shock on how they came up with: $3759.66 for economy class on a Saturday! Link to comment
Mengxin
Jonathan, 1st of all, congratcha-freakin-lations. That's great news. My travel agent gets consolidator fares for the same price you paid. anywhere from $750 to $850 from SFO to China is the going rate. Pay more than $900 and your not getting the best price from SFO. Here's my travel agents info if anyone is interested. Everyone in the office speaks Chinese and English fluently Ling Liu ling@eztravelglobal.com408-978-1661 San Jose, CA Link to comment
