Guilin is an ancient city near Nanning

Couple of things to add:

 

Guilin:

At night; walk around the river/lake area and take the night cruise

(about 2hrs). Also there is a song and dance show at a "minority village"

on the edge of town that features a famous chinese actress. I forget the

name of the place but your wife should be able to find it in one of her chinese tour books.

 

A tip for day touring; there is a tourist shuttle bus that goes to the major

in town attractions, again I forget the bus number but it is well marked on the bus stops.

 

Yangshou:

Don't be shy about hooking up with a local guide. We took a bike tour

down to the river for a ride on the bamboo raft; picked up our bikes

at the end and then went to Moon Hill and a cave tour.

The guide only wanted 20 yuan, a very nice girl.

Pkfops..was that the water cave?..did ur boat sink ..

That bamboo thingy..did ya see the man that had the

birds cathing fish?..our guide asked us to find the moom

rock on our bikes going to the water cave..Got soaked

in that cave..Flashlight died and one of the boats sank

on the way out ..I remember bike ride we went through

back dirt roads..mudholes everywhere..The trip from water

cave back to town was a good one, mostly downhill.....

Next time will bring shorts, a motor for bike, a water proof

camera and our own flashlight,hehe...Truth though loved

it just like it was, wouldn't trade them memories for anything.

No problems with the boat.(cave trip)

 

The bamboo raft was cool as I bought a couple

of beers on the way and the weather was great.

Don't forget to buy the bamboo water gun from the kids

so you can spray your fellow rafters.

 

We took a van from a spot near moon hill

to the cave.

 

Also for the ride back to town we just put are

bikes in the van. Our guide knew the driver so it was cool.

My wife is thinking that the trip to Beijing is a little to ambitious, so I am going to talk up Guilin/Yangshou. Otherwise we stay in GZ/GD - Kaiping, Zhuhai, etc. to stay close and relax.

When we were in Nanning I did say "let's go"

 

Guess what she said?

 

"GUM GWAI"

 

this is Nanning language for "too expensive." Who won? She did, I didn't want mop slapped.

guilin is not near Nanning. I went to Yangshuo with my tour guide. It was a lot of fun. Took a few pictures but the water was not high enough in the river.
