little white guy
Couple of things to add: Guilin:At night; walk around the river/lake area and take the night cruise(about 2hrs). Also there is a song and dance show at a "minority village"on the edge of town that features a famous chinese actress. I forget thename of the place but your wife should be able to find it in one of her chinese tour books. A tip for day touring; there is a tourist shuttle bus that goes to the majorin town attractions, again I forget the bus number but it is well marked on the bus stops. Yangshou:Don't be shy about hooking up with a local guide. We took a bike tour down to the river for a ride on the bamboo raft; picked up our bikes at the end and then went to Moon Hill and a cave tour. The guide only wanted 20 yuan, a very nice girl.192750[/snapback]Pkfops..was that the water cave?..did ur boat sink ..That bamboo thingy..did ya see the man that had thebirds cathing fish?..our guide asked us to find the moomrock on our bikes going to the water cave..Got soakedin that cave..Flashlight died and one of the boats sankon the way out ..I remember bike ride we went throughback dirt roads..mudholes everywhere..The trip from watercave back to town was a good one, mostly downhill.....Next time will bring shorts, a motor for bike, a water proofcamera and our own flashlight,hehe...Truth though lovedit just like it was, wouldn't trade them memories for anything. We took a van from a spot near moon hillto the cave. Also for the ride back to town we just put arebikes in the van. Our guide knew the driver so it was cool. mercator
My wife is thinking that the trip to Beijing is a little to ambitious, so I am going to talk up Guilin/Yangshou. Otherwise we stay in GZ/GD - Kaiping, Zhuhai, etc. to stay close and relax. Link to comment
yuehan123
My wife sings a Chinese song about Guilin. It goes something like this- I want to go to GuilinI want to go to GuilinBut, when I have time I don't have any money I want to go to GuilinWhen I was in school I had a dream to go to GuilinGuilin has beautiful water and beautiful places I met an old man who is retired. He has money and he has time.He had a dream to go to GuilinGuilin is so nice and so beautiful Guilin is like a pictureIt is also the dream in his life to there I want to go to GuilinI want to go to GuilinNow I have time and I have moneyBut, I still cannot go because I am busy. The name of the song is "Wo xiang qu Quilin" maybe the verses are not true, just my take on it. Link to comment

yuehan123
When we were in Nanning I did say "let's go" Guess what she said? "GUM GWAI" this is Nanning language for "too expensive." Who won? She did, I didn't want mop slapped. Link to comment
