SMS is just e-mail, isn't it? I just sent an SMS message to my phone from a regular e-mail account by using <phone #>@tmomail.net (for T-Mobile).

If you know the provier's domain, and her phone number, you might be able to figure out the SMS e-mail address, if she doesn't know.

Hi,

No, SMS is a separate network. Many providers have email aliases set up, but that is not universal.

Yes... all American providers have alias' set up. I used to work for one of the wireless telecom companies. I know quite a bit about the workings of SMS, from SMS server to handset. But the only time I had to deal with China was a problem from a US mobile to a China mobile. The problem had to do with the length of the 15 digit phone number. The SMS server software was not written to support anything over 13 digits. I was hoping someone on CFL might have a listing of the alias' for the Chinese Wireless companies. If not, maybe I need to get a hold of some of my old work compadres to do some investigating for me?

Once again, I thank you all for your suggestions. I will look into getting a phone card. It drives me crazy not to hear from her. I don't know what is going on. She could be sick. Her father is sick at times. I guess it is more frustrating because I'm trying to get things organized and sent. I don't want to pressure her in any way. I guess what Mike said could be taken as a "lie", however, my intentions were good. I did send her money and it was available for pick up. They just gave her a hard time at Western Union. I know I must be more patient. CFL is teaching me a lot of things about myself. Thanks again, everyone.

Just for the record, I have no doubt you sent the money. I'm just playing the devil's advocate from her side.

1. You promised to send money.

2. She doesn't have the money.

3. YOU made her lose face at the WU office.

Of course you didn't lie but how is she supposed to know that?

Looking into dynasky or similar services takes a few minutes and you can place the call immediately. You may not be able to communicate much but you can gauge her feelings.

If you are able to establish reliable communication and have a real commitment to each other to pursue the K1 visa process, then there is not pressure from you. The pressure is from the process. Set the proper expectations and get rolling.

On another note, my neighbor, who married a Bulgarian woman got documents translated by www.ultratranslate.com that satisfied USCIS.

Thank you, Mike. I like the way you tell it like it is. I understand and that does not bother me. I see your point about the money transfer, or should I say, "failed" money transfer. Ron

Just curious....why has RLS's thread turned into a discussion about SMS?

190482[/snapback]

Sorry Ron for getting off topic...

But as much as this thread is about your personal plight, it is also about communication. I was just trying to explore another avenue.

American cell phones don't send Chinese characters... but from a website maybe you could. Wouldn't it be nice to send your SO a text message in Chinese...

For example " ÎÒ°®Äã " http://z.about.com/d/chineseculture/1/0/U/8/iloveyou.gif

I'll look into it and start a new topic if I get anywhere with it.

... again sorry, I don't want you to think I was trying to downplay your personal crisis.

I think she is bussy with the Chinese new year's celebrations. I know this is a huge thing in China, even bigger then Christmas in the US. I hope you hear from her soon!

I agree... I talk to my wife every day. But I didn't talk to her for 3 days last week. She went to visit her Aunt. Her cell phone didn't work there and almost everything was closed due to the holiday.

No problem. I did not think that. Ron

Ron:

I spoke with my SO today and asked about Ahua's intent. She is very committed to you. YOU are going to have to solve some of the communication snafus. Myself, I bought my SO a computer and a years ISP service...well worth it. I also signed up for onesuite. I've also been at this for over 1 year and you don't want to know how much.

Western Union....I-129f...325a...these are all bumps in the road that CFL will help you manuveur.

It takes quite a committment and some patience (along with cheetos) to complete what many have described here as the best thing that they have ever done in their lives.

If you want to PM me and give me Ahua's cell number; I'll have my SO contact her and see if she can help.

Phil
