"A" number ???

I know I have seen this but now cannot find it....

 

What exactly is the "A" number need on the AOS documents???

The A number is the official recognition that she is now on immigrant status rather than nonimmigrant.

I guess that may be the current # but I didn't use it because it was not the format that fits on the I-9 documents I use at work. The new one is the same format as the number on permanent resident cards. I hope they don't penalize her for my not using the K-1 receipt number. Anyway she is happy her new number is a lucky one she says.

 

Maybe the format difference indicates nonimmigrant or immigrant.

She is K3.........

All I know is there is a place for it on the form (one of the AOS forms) - and I know I have seen it somewhere here before......

I just don't remember what it is and where to find it?

Jingwen's A number was hand written by the IO on her I-94 when she entered the US on her K-1 visa. The number is the same as her green card A number, so I'm guessing it was input into the system when she arrived.

On the I-94 there was a stamped number which was not an A type number and no written numbers except the date of departure. It seems there is a variety of ways these things are handled at POE.

 

The number on the AOS receipt has not appeared before on any of her paper work.

Other than a "0" added after the "A", my wife's A number on the NOA for the AOS is the same as it was on the NOA for the original K1 application.

 

I used that A number on all of her forms for AOS.

There are a lot of hits for "a number" under the basic search. For example:

Like somebody said, in another post, the A number is printed on the I-797. It is in the Applicant or Beneficiary block at the top right. It is not on our I-94 that I can see.

That's what we did ... and so far .. so good.

There was no A number on her I-94 so we put none. The receipt notice had a new A number assigned. We did fill in the SS#.
