  1. Hi, Everyone, I plan to visit U.S. together with my wife and her daughter. When I'm filling DS-160 form, I got a problem. I can't find 'Step-Child' in the DS-160 form. There are several choices: PARENT, SPOUSE, CHILD, OTHER RELATIVES, OTHERS. Which one is correct? And the similar problem for my step-daughter. Does she should choice 'PARENT' for me?
  2. First, does the B2 DS-160 ask if the applicant is a CCP member? I swear I don't recall reading this. Yet after the fact I'm thinking I must have missed it.... After filling out the DS-160 for my father-in-law I learned he is a nominal member of the CCP (i.e. he holds no official posts). At the time, I clearly wasn't reading/thinking clearly and wrote down "no" for affiliation. The form has been completed, and the interview already scheduled. What are my options?
  3. The new online DS-160 form replaces several older paper forms. We completed these forms for K1/K2 a few weeks ago, but the process had several bumps and false starts. First, consider that the forms must be completed in English. Second, that the forms are quite long and require several comprehensive details about the applicant(s). To begin these forms one must first create a user account. It's not at all clear how the user accounts are scrutinized, but my suspicions are they are scrutinizing them very carefully and most likely in an unfair manner when considering just how unfriendly the website is to honest users. It's also not clear just who in the hell is supposed to create the user account, but it appears that only the Chinese applicant should do so. They just may be hiding out to see whether there are oppressive men who try to help their partners with good intentions. It is likely nearly one-hundred percent of all applicants need the help of a native English speaker to work their way through the myriad of questions. You should be ready for a tough marathon session that can take a few hours to complete. For us, we assumed the website correctly indicated that the user could save their work and go back and complete it later. That didn't work for us and we lost everything close to the end of the first try. The account holder must register using their email. My partner and I shared the account and after a bit we saw we could close the form, save it, and I could reopen and also save. Toward the end, or beginning as I dont' remember, the applicant must upload a passport style photo and review the content and submit it. There is a question that in my estimation can be interpreted two ways which caused me to wonder after my partner submitted if I had guessed wrong. The DS-160 question was whether the applicant had third party assistance to submit/complete the form. I assumed, that the NVC people would examine the MAC, IP, and email address and see that it was the applicant who actually submitted the form. However, I have no way of knowing how or what they do. My fiance and her daughter reviewed the content of these forms online while we all spent hours on the telephone to complete them. We also answered the question as NO, that requested whether they had assistance, as I assumed it meant only a lawyer or another actually clicked submit. Needless to say I am nervous about everything at this moment. You just cannot assume that having an honest heart and being truthful in all answers your provide is good enough. For all I know these guys are out there playing "gotcha" when a man helps the Chinese woman with the form and then answers the question at the end as to whether or not you helped.
  4. When I fill out ds-160 form. there are B1/B2. and B2. I wonder should I pick B2 or B1/B2. for my parents , my uncle and anut.
  5. Hello , Can I apply B-2 visa ( 6 months ) for my uncle and aunt?
  6. My wife is wanting her parents to visit here. My wife just got her 2 yr green card a few months ago. Is there an amount of time we should wait before applying for her parents to visit? Is there a string on how we would go about doing that? Anyone have experience with this? My wife has considered looking into having her parents immigrate here but I've heard its easier to do that if she becomes an American citizen first. Any thoughts? thanks guys
  7. We're having some trouble applying for a B2 visa for my MIL. We submitted the DS160 already, and are trying to pay the application fee at CITIC bank, but they want a CGI number, which we don't have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  8. Hi Everybody, For a B2 visa app there is an online DS-160 form that asks for home and business addresses. Should we put these in as Chinese or as English translations & transliterations? The embassy website says to handwrite name and addresses in Hanzi on the confirmation page, but we're not sure about on the actual DS-160. Also, how will the embassy correspond with us? Is any information sent to the home address provided, or is correspondence done by email, phone, or some other method? (If anything is mailed out, we're obviously thinking that we need to put the address on the DS-160 in Chinese) Thanks!
  9. Hi Guys My wife's parents were rejected on their interview in Shenyang for their visitors visa. We stated on the DS-160 that WE would pay for the trip tickets. We think that told the interviewer to ask questions about me such as "when did your son in law retire, where did your son in law do before he retired" etc. My inlaws couldn't answer these questions. Also we stated on the DS-160 and invitation letter that we were asking for the parents to get a 1 year visa and stay with us for 1 year. Now we have reapplied but this time on the DS-160 we stated that THEY will pay for the tickets and in the invitation letter we said that we would like for them to stay with us for about 3 months. We thought that applying for a shorter time would make the interviewer ask more questions about them and less about me and also give the interviewer more reasons to believe that they would have stronger reasons to go back to China. QUESTION: Does the time stated in the DS-160 and in the invitation letter affect the time of the visa that the interviewing person will give them? ( We understand that most visas are for 1 year) If they are passed and are given a 1 year's visa, will the 3 months in the application affect what the immagration officer at US Customs will give them? We are hoping for 6 months. We have a Chinese friend whose mother applied for a 1 year's visa and she passed and got a 1 year's visa. The US Customs officer gave her 6 months stay in the US (This was her 1st time to the US). But we also heard that a mother in the same situation from Vietnam or Laos was given a 1 year's stay. Is it stricter with Chinese? Also is it possible for Chinese parents to get a 1 year stay?
  10. Unfortunately my mom is sick and old. So my wife (we got married 12.12.12 in Wuhan) and her mom want to meet her. The thing is my mom is in the USA and my wife, her mom (neither have ever been -- or desired to go -- to the USA before) and I are in China. I'm the USA citizen who would also go along. We would be staying at my mom's house. We just want to visit and then go back home to the good ol' PRC. I know starting this month on the 16th that the USA visas can be applied for online here, I know how to do that. There is even going to be a new visa issuing office in Wuhan, hooray. We are thinking a July or August trip. What are the requirements for these nonimmigrant visas for our trip? What are the do's and don'ts? Any help would be appreciated.
