  1. My wife is a Chinese citizen and she invests in the US stock markets. But I don't think that is what you are looking for.

Many Chinese stocks are listed here for consumption by USCs.

In China there is a dual system with one market in $ and the other in RMB. Both are for Chinese stocks.

Chinese can invest here by signing up with a broker here and bringing $. The SEC makes the rules.

One problem may be the language and understanding the financials printed in English.

Frankly, I am most comfortable with what I know best and if I was Chinese living there, I would stick with Chinese stocks.

Have you seen the storefronts with the people watching stock prices?

Never have seen a picture of one here. We might have to stop saying Communist China.

  2. 1. It is a lot easier to manage land use when the land is not priviately owned.

    2. The western part of China is mountainous and dry. The desert is moving south and the gov. is trying to reverse the trend much as Iran did under the Shah.

    3. No one seems to take over- population as a problem as they do not worry about their kids and grandkids. Like the national debt.

  3. Paula,

I bought a new Cheerokee Sport in 1984,1992 and 2000. Since they don't make them any more, I don't know what I will do. The first 2 I put about 180,000 on but this one is only up to 102,000. Just keep a eye on the fan belt/water pump. They are a good size and my wife loves it. The car is shorter than my Porsche 944 was. We use 4X almost everyday.

  4. My wife's degree in chemistry was paid for by her father's work unit which she went to work for. She did not need a GED but only a English Accuplacer test when she started class here at the Jr college. It was nice of CU-D to give her a scholarship for two semesters.

Being an accountant or CPA in China is not very interesting as their regulations are not observed very well.

The nurse training there is very different from here as they don't worry if someone dies. They usually don't answer buzzers at night. The last time I was in the hospital here there were two nurses from Kenya and they were good. The hospital had 27 from Kenya.

  5. I had experienced an experience of such today. Sweetie and I went to a new brokerage to change companies today and as usual, the American man was taken by sweetie and wanted her to tell him everything about China. So, I guess we can turn things around and see that many Americans don't know much about Chinese. He was amazed by the things we told him about the economy and the fact that the country is not Communist. She is an excelent communicator and everyone likes to talk with her.

  6. A couple of yeas ago there were stories in the Chinese paper which was picked up over here. Adoption had turned into a gang activity with babies being snatched off the street from there Mom's arms. They are then sold to a orphanage and eventually to a westerner.

We had a local news man who adopted two Chinese girls and was alway braying about the fact. I sent him some of this info and asked him to show the dark side. He stopped writing for this paper.

  7. Well, 7 cents is cheap to an American but you have to look at it through Chinese eyes. My father in law volunteered to do the wash by hand rather than buy a washer. He does not allow the heat or a/c to run. But I think he is just very tight.

I have slept on damp sheets in a hotel that evidently did not have a dryer.

Roger, you will have expenses with a washer dryer.. Why not let some one else do the wash. I used to take some stuff to a laundry in NJ and it seemed reasonable.

  8. As the in-laws don't need money that is not the reason their lives improved. Rather it is the fact that my wife now has the life she wanted eventhough wages were she used to work have gone up alot.

What really helped them it seems was getting her out of the house so they did not have people talking about how sad they were that their 30 yo could not get married. We have encouraged them more to travel and that seems to have been a big factor in their new found happiness.

  9. Tony, At the time of WW2, Shinto was the main religion in Japan. That and Budhism now survive side by side. About the only way to tell the difference in which temple is which is the color. Shinto was more a state religion with the Emperor at its head and thus had the most members at that time. It is still an important religion eventhought McArthur removed the Emperor from his religious duties as a condition of him remaining Emperor.
